This was a topic on Mike & Mike on ESPN this morning.  I have located the attached article that also touches on the subject.

Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Tirico both opined that the college game has been allowed to go overly physical.  I agree with their opinions.  The game has lost some of its flow due to that physical play.  In fact, Tirico believes that all the Louisville players would foul out if they played their same style in the NBA...that kind of made me chuckle.

What do you think.

Preach on brother!

The same thing is true of schools like VCU, Cincinnati and Wichita St.  Wisconsin and Southern Illinois qualify in past years as well.

The dirty secret behind these "lock down defensive schools" is that they foul like crazy knowing the refs can't/won't call a foul on every single possession.  They hold, bump, push, slap, clutch and tackle in order to take teams out of their offenses.  It isn't great defense (or even physical defense) so much as it is blatantly breaking the rules.

The NBA has implemented rules the last few years to take a lot of this out of the game.  College basketball needs to follow suit.

I agree with this 100%.  The college game has almost become an embarrassment.  It is legalized assault.  It is completely out of hand and it is ruining the game.

It is an easy fix.  Simply call the fouls every time down the court starting at the beginning of the season and teams will adjust.  The NBA has started this process and virtually eliminated all the hand-checking.  If it can be done in the NBA, it certainly can be done in college.

The finals tonight was a case-in-point.  UL made some great plays, but they mugged UM all night.  There were possessions where UL fouled UM 10 times on a single possession, and not one of them was called.  UM was the more talented team, but UL knows how to foul better.  That should not be what determines a national champion.

I haven't watched l'ville much this season, but I couldn't believe tonight's game.  Mugging them all night is right!  I didn't enjoy most of this game because I was too busy asking the TV "HOW WASN'T THAT A FOUL!?"

This definitely needs to be addressed.
