No idea with this guy.  He was the lead candidate for the SC job before they went with Frank Martin since that is where he's from.  He previously was at Winthrop in SC for 9 years....seems like he is an East Coast guy who has been living in Kansas for the last 6 years.

 

He's never been hotter...not sure where he would go.

My theory on mid-major coaches (and this is obviously not scientific by any means) who have success in the tournament goes something like this.  If they make the Elite 8, the chances are better than average that they will immediately parlay that success into a upper-tier power 6 conference job (Tubby to UK, Self to Illinois).  But if they break through to the Final Four (Stevens, Shaka) they feel that they can reach the ultimate pinnacle where they're at, no need to take on the added risk at the top level.

 

Now, obviously there are exceptions (see Jim Larranaga) but my hunch is that Marshall isn't going anywhere.  Especially not for a job like Minnesota.

Personally I see him doing what Shaka and Stevens are doing and sitting back and waiting for the "right" job to open.

Yeah, he did turn them down. The way I stated it implied incorrectly that they turned down Marshall.

I could see him doing that, on the other hand he is going to be coaching in an even more inferior conference next year with Creighton leaving, he may see this as his best shot.  Shaka and Stevens coach in a good A10 league which has way more upside than the valley.

I'm absolutely floored that Tubby took the Texas Tech job. I'm convinced he did it purely out of spite. You can't knock a guy though for parlaying a hopelessly mediocre stay at MN into a 5 million dollar winfall when you throw in his new money at TTech plus the buyout. All the locals up here are crying that Miles isn't available. How 'bout that?
