I understand the FIBA points have to be acquired in prior years so pro contracts prevent a lot of good players from doing FIBA 3x3 but there’s gotta be better players than this available.  It feels weird having these guys represent us in basketball in any form.

I wonder if it will be addressed.

Really depends on how important getting gold is for the US.

Currently our strategy is to put together a team that plays together regularly so they have chemistry. This limits the talent pool as higher level guys are playing for pro teams.

I'd be curious how our national team would do against 4 random NBA players willing to play.

I don't know how washed the guys are from The Big3 league but that seems like a way to develop players for the Olympics.

I was thinking about Big3 also but I’m guessing FIBA hates Ice Cube.

3x3 is exhausting due to the continuous play so I get needing to have current pros.  It sure seems like a prerequisite would be being at least 6’6” (able to switch screens), have a decent jumper, and be very physical.  Gotta be some college players graduating or low salaried Euro pros that would love to travel the world playing 3x3 full time and have a chance to be an Olympian.  Something about it feels very exclusive and weird right now but I could be wrong.

Thanks for mentioning this as the way you get on the national team is to obtain a ranking in Fiba 3x3 events, which our team did.  In that point system, they're currently ranked as the 3rd best FIBA team.  Possibly some of our problem has been our draw as the Serbian team we just lost to is ranked #1 and the Lithuanian team is #5.
