NCAA Tournament Hosts

I ask this question because I saw Omaha is hosting another NCAA tournament round in a couple of years. What would Lincoln have to do to host the opening rounds? With the new arena I'm assuming there will be new hotel(s)? The only thing holding us back I feel like is that the only direct flights to LNK are from Minneapolis, Chicago, and Denver.

You'd be kidding yourself if you think Lincoln had the capability to host a round in a large tournament of any sport, unfortunately. Of course, I said the same thing almost a decade ago. It appears that Lincoln is just now stepping into the entertainment avenue and has a lot of catch-up work to do to get there.

i hope we do whatever steps it takes to have the chance to get one.  With three new hotels going up near the arena, that should help solve that issue.  The new entertainment district right outside the arena (the yard?) will be a good selling point, too.

 

There certainly wouldn't be a whole lot for visiting fans to do outside of the Haymarket/downtown area, but considering they'd only be in town for a weekend that shouldn't matter a whole lot.

 

Would be a very nice get for the city.

Going to need A LOT more hotels. That new Marriott in the Haymarket didn't build as a full service hotel, so it doesn't count towards the hotels we need.

I believe downtown Lincoln has three hotels that would qualify as full service today.

Are the new Hyatt and Hilton going to be full service?  I live in the Haymarket and should probably know this, but I guess I hadn't even thought about it until now.

Didn't read the requirements posted above, but I believe the NCAA requires around 10 full service hotels.
