Coach Lewis stopped in to see Arop work out yesterday - officials set to Drake Sept 21, NU Sept 28 and Omaha Oct 5 https://www.omaha.com/neprepzone/recruiting/boys-basketball/nebraska-and-uno-coaches-have-been-busy-visiting-in-state/article_3be0482b-5cfd-54f5-8c3e-657dc3ffe65c.html

Exactly. This coaching staff is not taking its foot off the gas pedal until it's in victory formation. The rule changes over the past several years favor offense and favor aggressive teams (see the penalty on Reed that wouldn't have been a penalty several years ago as an easy example). Even if NU tries to burn clock there, CU still would've had plenty of time to score, especially just needing a field goal. Remember, they still had a timeout remaining after they scored. They could've just used that timeout while we were trying to burn clock. When playing teams that are used to playing fast, giving a team the ball at its 25 with 60-90 seconds remaining is an eternity in today's game, even if they have no timeouts, especially when they'd just need a field goal. Hell, we moved the ball 40-45 yards down the field pretty easily in about 40 seconds with a backup QB who was taking the 4th D-1 game snap of his life at the start of the drive ... and we had a timeout still on the board when we reached the 20-yd line. Unless you have an elite defense, give me an aggressive offense every time in today's college game. So late in the game, I think teams have really changed their thinking regarding managing clock on offense from what traditionally has occurred. What's better than worrying about burning clock is just not giving the ball back. When Martinez went out, we either needed a couple of first downs to ice the game or a defensive stop, so I have no issue with them staying aggressive and focusing on trying to convert the first down in the most natural way for their offense, rather than worrying about the clock. Without at least one first down on our part, CU was going to have plenty of time whether we tried to burn clock or not. Once we get to a spot in a game under 2 minutes where burning clock will actually matter, I'd imagine we'll play it far differently. And completely agree about feeling very positive after that game. Can't remember feeling so positive about a loss since maybe the 2009 Texas game (after calming down about the 1 second fiasco) or the 2008 Texas Tech game that we lost in OT down there when they were ranked in the Top 10. Lots and lots of positives, and the mistakes/negatives are fixable. Football is fun again. Basketball is fun again. I like it.

Had heard some rumors of this and now it's official - NU will play two exhibition games at home vs other schools during fall baseball. http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=211771434 These will be before the Red/White scrimmage dates in late October. (I wonder if they eventually shift the Sept. 22 baseball start time to later in the day with NU-Michigan football now set for 11 a.m.) NCAA passed a new rule this year allowing up to 2 fall exhibition games without it counting against 56-game limit in the spring. In the past, the NCAA allowed teams to take up to 4 of those 56 spring games and play them as exhibitions in the fall instead, but they'd count against the 56-game limit. Hardly anyone used it, because everyone wants to try to get 56 games in the spring. This rule is much better. I see Purdue is playing its 2 exhibitions against junior college teams - that might be a really smart idea going forward for NU baseball for recruiting purposes. Get a talented juco team in here, let them see the facilities, etc. https://www.jconline.com/story/sports/blogs/nathan-baird/2018/08/22/purdue-baseball-taking-advantage-new-rule-allowing-fall-exhibitions/1066118002/

2020 F Tre Coleman -> Nevada
throwback replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
OWH says he'll be here this weekend on an unofficial, along with Williams, Arop & Sallis https://www.omaha.com/huskers/mens-basketball/nebraska-clemson-basketball-will-air-on-espn-top-recruits-visiting/article_0159e554-3b9d-5785-a413-5048caabeb5c.html -

The thread starter has a serious drinking problem would be my guess.

Watching DSU Basketball - it's 2 hours of your life you'll never get back Summit League starts conference play in that Dec 28-29-30 area, so that game won't be a Summit team. Looks like Missouri Valley does the same thing with its league schedule. My guess is we have a D2 game in one of those slots, although a lot of D2 teams don't schedule games between end of 1st semester and Christmas, so it'd probably be the Dec. 29 game if we go that route.

Sorry to deliver the bad news, but Delaware State won't be gracing PBA on those two open dates: DELAWARE STATE 2018-19 SCHEDULE Weber St and Ball St are taking those bullets this year. http://www.dsuhornets.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12900&SPID=5813&SPSID=82264

Can't upvote this enough - I understand why he angered some NU fans as he always went out of his way to not be a homer, but we need guys like that in the media. He broke a ton of stories and exposed a lot of crazy, idiotic things that have been happening in NU athletics over the past couple of decades. Sadly, I think those days of savvy journalism are over -- not just in sports but in many parts of society -- and it's not for the better.

I like the way it lays out. We need to survive the first 7 games, could be a 'dog in 4 or 5 of those. But there's a chance we could do really well in those first 7 if we can repeat how we played on the road over the back half of last season, as I don't think we'll be a huge 'dog in any of them. With a veteran team, having some potentially tight road games early in league play should be to our benefit, especially if other teams are still trying to find their way. Then we need to rack up the wins over the next 9, could be favored in 7 of them, maybe 8. Tough final 4 games, may only be favored in 1 and a significant 'dog in 2 of them, but, if we've played well up to that point, we could be playing with a whole bunch on the line in those final 4 games.

Will be interesting to see if the Big Ten has 2 league games scheduled in early December again. Guess we'll find out Tuesday NU has the Nov. 30-Dec. 2 weekend still open on its schedule. That would be the weekend they used last year, scheduling around the Big Ten Football championship game on that Saturday. If they do that, that would leave 18 league games to be played over a 10-week span from Dec. 31 to March 10, so they could give teams 2 games a week with a couple of byes/1-game weeks. Much better than last year's condensed schedule. Nov 6 – Missi Valley St Nov 11 – SE Louisiana Nov 14 – Seton Hall Nov 19 – Missouri St (at KC) Nov 20 – Tex Tech/USC (at KC) Nov 24 – W Illinois Nov 26 – at Clemson ??? 2 Big Ten games ??? Dec 8 – Creighton Dec 16 – Okla St (at Sioux Falls) 2 non-con games left to announce -- finals week is Dec 10-14, so we won't have any games during that week I'd imagine. Mar 13-17 – Big Ten Tourney --- Also interesting, last year NU played 31 regular season games between Nov 11 and Feb 25 = 107 days This year, NU will play 31 regular season games between Nov 6 and March 10 = 125 days Should be helpful for our short bench in the front court.

I know radio stations routinely run on a 5-second delay for the dump button for profanity. But do radio gear manufacturers made a 30-second dump button? Husker Sports Network would need to invest in one. Still a great idea.
-
Exactly - Jordy was at 4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 turnovers per game last year in 13.6 minutes. If Chan can be at 5 and 5 with <1 turnover in 12-15 minutes, that would be gold. This year, he just needs to give us some minutes to keep Roby & Cope fresh. Next year, he can become more of a focal point.

Why did I click on this headline? Worse yet, why did I play the video 15 times?

What type of kid should we recruit?
throwback replied to Huskerpapa's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I don't think Miles extends the offer without some assurances that the young man is at least interested and open to the idea of playing for NU. If that bridge was completely burned, it'd be better for both sides to just not extend an offer. -

Ominous Tweet Re: Roster Attrition
throwback replied to Cookie Miller Wasn't Dirty's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I must've missed the ominous tweet back in March about the roster shakeup coming at Channel 8. -
Just wait - when the ominous tweet about all of our roster attrition comes true, all the guys who leave will just fade out of that photo, Back to the Future style.
