It comes down to this for me: -Copeland is 100% and fully eligible -Roby's growth -Gill/Palmer/Akenten can overcome Taylor and man the 2 -One of Allen and Akenten prove to be a knock down 3 point threat -Jordy avoids foul trouble.

Which is why I was hoping to keep him. You can teach someone how to play defense, especially when that someone has been a post and is in the first year of being asked to transform his body and play on the perimeter. Offensive skill is something that you really either have or you don't at this point and his offensive game is as well rounded as anyone's on the team not named Glynn

Again...not bad things. They are still power 5 opponents and we already will have 5 pretty decent to very good games between the California tourney, Creighton and Kansas.
-
We have 3 in California and 1 in Omaha and the possibility of one in the ACC. I think we are good there.
-
Not sure if joking or if you misinterpreted my post. Yes, I think we could beat DePaul. I think we can beat Georgetown too. It's a name team, that will have at worst a top 100-110 RPI and at home. Winnable for us. This is a good thing considering the rest of our schedule.

Best we can hope for there....winnable game at home.

I'd take that from him in a heart beat

Padding the Stats: Finding an Identity
nustudent replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That was a big part of it...but the team was also a little more well rounded. Petteway and Gallegos and Pitchford can all extend the defense. Petteway and Shields could both drive and get to the rim. Pitchford, at times, and Smith could both finish inside. They could score in a variety of manners. Miles teams since then could do 1 or 2, but not all 3 of those things. Coupled with a declining defensive effort and there you go. -
True, if you consider Copeland and Palmer newcomers. But technically...Copeland and Palmer were enrolled at the same time as those others and were all set to be on the same team next year, so one can easily make a case that they aren't technically replacements. Personally, I'd just assume have had Fuller and Horne left and only signed Allen. We needed Okeke for depth but wouldn't have chosen him over MJ or Morrow.
-
I think we need him to be in between. Obviously, the more the better...but if he can get us 15-20mpg and average 6-7 as an outside threat, he'll have done his job
-
I think Brase will be a warm body...but McVeigh is already going to lose time because of Copeland, Roby's extra year of experience and Nana and Palmer. If you add Brase to the mix who can play some time at a stretch 4...that's even less opportunity for McVeigh.
-
I think our defense took a dive because of the conference season, not because of Gill.
-
Don't see McVeigh consistently getting 20 mpg (again...assuming we get Brase) and don't see Gill at zero. But I do think Gill is going to be one of the last guys in the rotation.
-
That's good to hear on Palmer though. Outside of the grade rumors, this is the first real substantial report I've heard/read on him.
-
I love you.

History tells us someone will be hurt/not eligible/transfer/etc On the surface right now...have to think Gill is an odd man out. Duby and Taylor will get time, but in limited roles IMO. And unless Jack suddenly gets more reliable and consistent from the arc....I think he's going to struggle to find more than 6-8 minutes a game too (assuming we get Brase)

2016-2017

With Allen, pass on Maye. He won't play much next year and we are in on guys who are better next year. Take guys that will play next year
-
Don't think it was the minutes that wore him down
-
He wasn't exactly wrong
-
Think he's a great role player. He's not a starter on a good team
-
He needs to improve. But his ceiling is higher than anyone else we have. Unless Nana comes in as a legit stud, no one else should beat him out as the 3
-
AFAIC...4 of the 5 starters are locked up. It's just a matter of who out of Taylor, Gill, Palmer, Allen and Nana emerges at the two. My guess would be Palmer as of now. Watson, Roby, Copeland and Jordy are either too good or have too high of ceilings not to start.
-
Never said it did. Just said that he's had more than enough time to build a better program than what we have currently. And I'll agree that if it is to happen...Allen fills a need that was going to be a big variable in the equation

Gill....typo
