speaking of in state talent, our softball team may have gone from upper division to odds on favorite in the B1G

I like the arrow. 5'3" and 6'5" isn't much of a contest, so why would I try to force a jump ball if I was the 5'3"?
-
I really do not think in terms of 13 being short staffed. A small rotation would be 7 people getting minutes. A big rotation would 9 people getting non mop up minutes, so 13 is not a bad number to me at all. The only reason I'd fill 15 spots is so I could redshirt and give more time developing. The portal really should be about filling needs and people filling those needs being ready to roll. For that reason taking a ton out of the portal really does not make sense to me unless they are Freshman or Sophomores

Maybe overly optimistic, but I actually see us being 5. Reasoning 1) AW & DW should be able to free up our shooters, cause of their ability to drive. Also cause I believe they are better passers. 2) Jaz, Callin and Logan are good shooters and should benefit from better ball movement 3) Alexa took expected lumps from being defenses focal points and should have a much better year 4) I think MM will make a big jump 5) I think the KU game was the confidence boost KM needed 6) though not talked about Miss Potts, I think will prove much more versatile than people think 7) I think the player development message has finally been heard ...Just my personal thoughts

That presents it's own problem. 1 ball and too many egos to feed

Big Ten team news...(Hoopla's picks complete p. 17)
caveman replied to whoopdeedoo's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
I'm going to respectfully disagree here. Take away the 3 pt. and Issie shot 67%. At the 3 pt. line she shot 28%. Knowing overall she shot under 50%, I am saying she probably spent to much time behind the arc. Our coaching had Griffin and tried to turn her into Hooper. -
I think it's the way the games officiating. Inner city, street baller thuganomic play is rewarded. Let's call the little hand check on the player that just got brutally mugged. We did not see the cross body block or the flying drop kick, but that hand check is unreasonable.

AM played like she was intimidated past the game really wasn't even close. They could get to the rim off the bounce at will. We still do not believe in helping with the dribble penetration. Their coaching is what kept us in the game. They tried to get cutesy with their offense rather than finishing at the rack every time. The real bright spot was KM. I thought she played real well in her first start.

This was probably the most disappointing season I've really ever watched. I really felt after last year the coaching staff turned a corner and I did expect us to be a top 25 team. Going forward I'd like to see 3 things. 1) develop talent. Freshman year should not be the ceiling and only down hill from there. 2) play defense. Our defense on dribble penetration is pathetic at best. If it's not too inconvenient coach physical defense, it should help the offense quite a bit since we seem to wither and dye when the other team plays physical. 3) respect the possession. We have way way to many give aways on unforced errors Unlike the rest of the board I believe we have the talent for a real winner. MM, AS, AM that should be a solid post. AW, KC, KM, CH pretty good pieces in the back court

OK that's Kate vs. two from Iowa. Q: is Iowa that good at developing or are we bad. Let's hit closer to home Kate's freshman numbers are eerily to Kelsey Griffen compare and contrast those two careers.

Do you think we will be a tournament team. NIT still requires .500 and I don't see us winning 1 of the next 3. Just shy of 13K fans and we still play lethargically.

Here is my problem. As coaches players are supposed to get better year after year. Counting on freshmen coming in as complete packages and having a huge impact is a complete joke. Half the high school players have no idea what be defended actually is. In spite of that we manage to make players less year over year. Seriously most the players you mentioned went backwards when they got here. Point guard don't do passing, dribbling or drills finishing at the rim and through contact. We only want 3 point shooting. Bigs no boxing out, no drop steps, no euro step, no contact drills, no crashing offensive glass, no clearing out the lane. We only want 3 point shooting. God forbid anybody get to the middle of the zone and collapse it. We want no midrange, we only want 3 point shooting. Basically we are offended by any non three point shooting aspects of basketball. It is after all beneath us.

Jensen, Morgenson, Maly, Ronsiek which one of these are we going to argue has more athleticism than our current roster. I promise you that Hake, Jaz and Sam have them beat athletically. Most foot work is how you drill and how consistently you drill. I will take good footwork and defensive planning over athleticism almost every time

Being perfectly honest this team seems to have quit after the OT loss to IU.

In the first half of the last three games we've had 2 in for post players and in the second half have had 1 in and the other post player hanging around the 3 pt. line. We have given up the paint in the second halves of games which after 3 times in a row we should be able to see this clearly doesn't work. It looks like we quit playing in the second half and try to stall out the clock in the second half rather than attack the basket. This stall type play offensively also tends to carry over to defense where we also sit back and don't attack. The real thing that bothers me with this team is the inability to play with any physicality. I don't think the " Ew Don't Touch Me" style really works in any P5 conference. We need to learn to put a body on them and Beat em until we beat them
-
50 turnovers in the last 2 games: brutal to watch, but really just poor coaching. Earth to hey coach, teams are going press you until you show you can handle it.
-
Luckily the hot shooting is covering up for the brutal defense on the bounce.
-
In truth I really do not know if she fits Creighton's mold. Creighton's identity is defined by their defense. A tough and I do mean tough man defense with tons of switching so it kind of resembles a match up zone. Sometimes it is very hard to get an offense minded player to fill that mode and maintain the offensive production when they have to defend that hard. Offensive production falls off and the player gets too frustrated
-
I'll agree to disagree. I think the talent is there, I do not think player development is
-
If you look at game stats the only reason beat us was +9 at the foul line.
-
OK trying to give some honest feedback here. Viewing comments above I've seen a few on transfer portal, a couple on recruiting, a couple on 3pt. shooting..... I think our biggest problem is player development. Line up stats and let's be honest Issie this year or 2 years ago, Jaz last year or this year, Alexis Markowski last year or this year, Annika Stewart last year or this year. As a program we have zero idea there is development past the three point line. The difference between last year and this year opponents have decided to take away the three point line and see if we sink or swim. Having our bigs play behind the line a good idea. If you take away Markowski our bigs average 28% behind the line, I clearly have no idea why that's more valued than the lost rebounds, playing inside out and everything else with bigs playing big

Let's start with the elephant in the room. Starting slow has been a problem basically all year. Adding to the slow start, if we are being perfectly honest OSU does have the best set of guards in the league and we were without our best defending guard in Miss Weidner. Get past that and it's pretty much all positive. 1. Sam looked like Sam again while driving the ball 2. Miss Haake is really starting to shine 3. AM in my opinion won the post game 4. Despite the poor start and playing without our best defender, we pushed the number 3 team in the country until the end of the game
-
I'll just keep it positive. Best we've played since Miss Weidner went down and probably the best team defense we played all, as we managed the switches really well
-
Brutal officiating, possibly the worst I've ever seen.

It's better to be lucky than good
