McVeigh Playing in the World University Games
Swan88 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
A video of the Russia v. Australia game is linked above. In this game, Jack played 17:56 minutes, mostly in two chunks: (i) mid-first quarter to mid-second quarter, and (ii) mid-third quarter to mid-fourth quarter. Norm, you'll be pleased to see his drive-in-traffic for two at about 23:25. Two of his fouls are defending fast breaks (see, e.g., 34:30). A nice tip-in is at 29:21, and a 3 pointer is at 107:39. He plays for a while at the top of the key in a zone defense (see, e.g., 31:00). He takes a couple fast-breaks to the rim: gets stuffed at 1:08:00 and gets fouled at 1:08:15. And he makes a nice feed to the post (who gets fouled) at 1:14:00. He also spends some time at the front of their press. -
McVeigh Playing in the World University Games
Swan88 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Norm, for the eight tournament games Jack played, he made 4 of 7 foul shots: he went 1 of 2 in games on the 24th and 25th and went 2 of 3 on the 29th. And he committed 9 fouls: 1 each game on the 20th, 21st, 27th and 28th, 2 on the 23rd, 3 on the 24th, and none on the 25th and 29th. -
McVeigh Playing in the World University Games
Swan88 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Here are Jack's shooting stats for each game in the tournament: Date 2 pts. 3 pts. 20th 0/1 1/2 21st ---- ---- 23rd 1/1 0/1 24th 2/3 2/4 25th 8/9 1/7 27th 3/3 2/3 28th 1/3 3/5 29th 4/5 2/4 Totals 19/25 11/26 Percent 76.0% 42.3% Who knows what happened on the 25th -- great 2 point percentage and lousy 3 point percentage. Maybe he chucked up a long shot at the end of each quarter? But if we were to remove the 1/7 outlier on 3 pointers, he went 10/19 -- that's 52.6%. -
2018 F Aguir Agau -> Fresno St.
Swan88 replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Let's see: Akoy Agau went to Louisville, then to Georgetown, then to SMU (I believe that's his current / final spot). And he toyed with / considered the Huskers at every step of his recruitment and transfers journey. Aguir Agau is currently somewhere in California (Cathedal High and Middlebrooks Academy are both showing up online for Aguir), after playing somewhere in Omaha for awhile (online sources reference both Creighton Prep and Central). That's more than a usual amount of transfer drama--even in today's transfer-crazy basketball world. -

McVeigh Playing in the World University Games
Swan88 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Or how about this paragraph from the same article: "The 6-foot-8 forward moved into the starting lineup for Australia’s final four games and played some of his best basketball, averaging 14.8 points per game on 61 percent shooting in that span." -
McVeigh Playing in the World University Games
Swan88 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Whoa! Didn't expect to see these final stats for Mr. McVeigh (from huskers.com): "For the tournament, McVeigh played in all eight games, averaging 9.4 points per game on 59 percent shooting, including 42 percent from 3-point range, along with 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. McVeigh finished fourth on the team in both scoring and assists and tied for third in steals while posting a 5.3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio." -

He's staying on the west coast.

Here is a nice shout-out to Thomas Allen from the Scout folks:

2018 G Xavier Johnson - Decommit to Pitt
Swan88 replied to ajb5856's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Ha! There's only one person's opinion on Tim Miles that matters. He isn't posting on this board. He isn't listening to us. And none of us knows what he's thinking. Any of us on this board with an opinion on Miles's future job status (whether he stays or goes under any circumstances at the end of next season) has a 50% chance of being right. And it's always fun to speculate! -
This is from Huskers.com: Thorbjarnarson played for KR Reykjavik in the Icelandic League last year, averaging 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for a team that went 26-8 and won the league championship in the top pro league in the country. He shot 53 percent from the field, including 38 percent from 3-point range last winter. His team has won the title in each of the past three seasons. I bought a pair of Adidas two weeks ago. . . . What?! You mean I'm not on the leading edge of fashion?!

What if Georgetown (or someone else) won't give the information--maybe just to be ornery or to give a departed student a hard time?
-
Yeah. These early bloomers are often just that. Sometimes, I think it's a huge disservice to project collegiate success at such an early age. How many of these early-offer types end up never panning out. My unscientific impression is this: lots of them don't pan out. And the expectations, starting at such an early age, become high and unrealistic. Early offers like this can become an albatross--and a terrible disservice to the youngster--in later years.

2018 SG Ron Harper Jr. -> Rutgers
Swan88 replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Ron Harper Jr. gets his basketball bloodlines from both sides. This is a March 2017 report: Ron Harper Jr. carries his family name proudly, all the way down to his size 18 sneakers. Yes, size 18. But his game doesn’t just resemble that of his father, five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. It has facets of his mother’s game, too. Maria Harper was an outstanding high school and Division 1 player at the University of New Orleans. “When I think about it, I try to incorporate both of their games into mine,” said Harper Jr., a junior swingman at Don Bosco Prep. “It makes a nice little mix.” Harper Jr. can talk fluently about both his mom’s and dad’s careers. He says his dad was one of the first real big-guards in the NBA, who used his size to dominate at times. His mom was a scorer and distributor. -
klgumby makes this excellent observation over on Red Sea Scrolls: "Nebraska has done everything they have needed to do the minute they need to do it. They have to rely on Georgetown, all doctors, and the NCAA to be timely here and 2 of those 3 aren't exactly known for being timely."

Sounds promising . . . just takes time.

That spin/hook move at the end of the video seems to show some promise on offense . . . unless it was one successful shot out of five. But it looks good, in any event.

2018 F Ed Chang (Papillion-LaVista)
Swan88 replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I've seen no evidence of any connection between NU and Chang for a very long time . . . none. Am I missing something? -

2018 PF Nate Roberts -> Washington
Swan88 replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Here is an article out of Syracuse on their offer to Nate Roberts, from back in April. Here are some blurbs from the article: Smith said most recruiting sites claim Roberts is 6-7 or 6-8. "He's all of 6-10 and probably pushing 6-11," Smith said. The Brewster coach describes Roberts as more of a prospect than a polished product right now. Smith would prefer that Roberts display more physicality in the post, but appreciates the smoothness of his game. "You certainly see glimpses that he can be a special, special player down the road," Smith said. "He moves so well for somebody who's 6-10. And he can step out and hit the outside shot."
