Miles said in the post game that Glynn is sick. Didn’t say what the ailment might be. -

Nice to get that win with Roby out and Glynn ailing. -

Missed the game. What happened to Roby? -
I'm always amazed at the hand-wringing and agony among Husker (and marginally-Husker) folks over missed-out players. Life goes on--enjoy it a little. The constant drip of regret is . . . well, it's a lousy way to start a long weekend. And it happens--it's part of college sports. For example: --Tom Osborne rejected Barry Sanders because he already had a commitment from another small running back--Johnny Rodgers's son, who became injured and never panned out. --Larry Station and numerous others from Nebraska went to Iowa and were all-everything there. --The little running back from North Platte couldn't get a scholarship offer here and has had huge success in college and the pros. And those are in football where we can stockpile 80+ scholarship players. Basketball only has 13.

Interesting info. And it’s gracious of you to sort-of include the Kansas loss in that list of shoulda’-done-better games. EDIT: The Kansas reference is a joke . . . apparently, it's not very funny.

I'm bumping my own post here -- sorry for this breach of message board etiquette. So . . . some disclaimers first: The Jays are probably good; and they'll probably beat the heck out of the Huskers. But as a follow-up to my above post, Northwestern lost, a few days ago, to Texas Tech by the score of 85-49. Even by Husker standards of not showing up, occasionally, that's truly laying an egg.

So . . . I watched the video. Here's how it breaks down: 10 -- layups/dunks 1 -- three pointer 2 -- jumpers just above the free throw line 2 -- jumpers just below the free throw line 0 -- misses

So . . . I open this thread and see that Jayskers are all agog about their team. And then I turn on their game . . . it’s two points in the last seconds. And this is the same Northwestern team with that mighty 4 point win over Loyola of somewhere and 9 points over that Saint Peter of who-knows-where. Whatever.

Ha! Here's a minor point in defense of our Iowa St. scrimmage result: Cameron Lard (F) played against us -- and he hasn't played in a game since. In our scrimmage, Cameron Lard had 13 points on 5-8 from the field (no 3 attempts) and 3-5 from the line, with 6 rebounds and 5 blocks. But still . . .

From today’s news conference: ***As for potential redshirt candidates this year, Miles said freshmen guards Nana Akenten and Thorir Thorbjarnarson both told him they want to play this season. Miles added that he’s had players in the past change their minds after the season has started and decided to redshirt, but at this point both will be available to play starting with Saturday night’s opener.

Northwood VS. Nebraska (Exhibition) Game Thread
Swan88 replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
One positive note on James Palmer from the Northwood game: remember when we went to a full-court press--once; and James Palmer stole the ball immediately? Now that was impressive. There's no way those guards could handle pressure like that. So, we never did it again--it's an exhibition game, after all. -
Nebraska out-rebounded Iowa St. by 30-23. Nebraska held its own against Mississippi St. on the boards: 37-38. It was those monsters from Northwood that took us to the woodshed on the boards. And James Palmer had 4 rebounds against Iowa St., 1 rebound against Mississippi St., and 1 rebound against Northwood.

College basketball needs a Kelley Blue Book on the amounts to pay players for under-the-table benefits. Here's an article from yesterday containing the following (i) self-reporting by Georgia Tech basketball, and (ii) further allegations by a former friend of the Georgia Tech basketball coach: According to the school, Jackson accepted benefits totaling less than $525 while Okogie accepted benefits totaling less than $750. Bell turned over documents to CBS Sports that show he spent $233.40 on a plane ticket for Okogie, sent him three pairs of shoes totaling around $444 and ordered him two shirts totaling $56. Bell also provided CBS Sports with documents that show he spent $233.40 on a plane ticket for Jackson, sent him two pairs of shoes totaling around $271 and ordered him Knicks apparel worth $80. Those documents add up to around the estimates Georgia Tech self-reported, and any incongruities could be chalked up to estimation differences, which are allowable by NCAA rules. But Bell insists they do not tell the full story. He said he also spent "about $500" on groceries for the players when they stayed at his house from May 9-13, and he provided photo evidence of Okogie and Jackson in his swimming pool. The NCAA should also be considering, he said, a 220-mile roundtrip ride from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Bell's house in Tucson, which Bell said he provided for both players, as an impermissible benefit. And after adding up other various expenses, including a $120 meal Bell said he had with Okogie and Jackson at a Houston's in Atlanta, the 51 year-old who works in the real estate business concluded he's definitely given Okogie more than $750 and Jackson more than $525 in impermissible benefits. "It's not even close," Bell said

Yeah. Northwood is having five guys crash the offensive boards and leaving no one back. We could fast break but don’t very much. Nana and Thorir have a ways to go. -

Norwood has banked in two threes. Scheesh. And we are having trouble with layups. Disappointing so far.
