On a serious board like this??!!

To everyone who does down arrows or laughs on my posts: please do a post that explains your disagreement so I can hit a “like” on your explanation! I can’t hit a “like” on your emoji.

Mitchell is a 2018 high school graduate, right? Is there some type of eligibility issue? Why, otherwise, would a four-star be going to prep school instead of enrolling immediately?

Thorir and Iceland at FIBA U-20 Tournament
Swan88 replied to WestOHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Right now, Iceland is playing Italy, and Italy looks dominant. But that shouldn’t be surprising, I suppose: online sources say Italy has 60 million people, while Iceland has less than 400,000 people. -
Was that a recent development? If so, what is the change based on? AAU play?

I saw him play last season and would second this sentimate. He’s quick and explosive—and very smooth as well.

Predictions turn out to be accurate only when made after the fact. The odds of this prediction being 100% true in the future are significantly less than 30%. Who would have predicted, for example, that in the past two years, with a first round pick and an early second round pick on their roster, the Jays would fail to win a single NCAA Tournament game—and wouldn’t even win a Conference Tournament game last season.

Or . . . we’d be replacing an Anton Gill with a Caleb Grill — Karma.

Had forgotten this history of Alvin Michell: OMAHA (AP) -- Former Cincinnati basketball player Alvin Mitchell plans to end his career in his hometown of Omaha. Nebraska-Omaha Coach Kevin McKenna announced Monday that the 6-foot guard will join the Mavericks for the 2001-02 season. Mitchell averaged 4.5 points for the Bearcats in 1998-1999. The former Omaha Burke standout last played in Cincinnati's second-round loss to Temple in the 1999 NCAA tournament. He left the Bearcats to return to Omaha because of the birth of his son.

Ha! “Better” is a word the bluebirds live by—in comparison to just about everything/everybody: I’ve heard it a million times here in Omaha over the years.

I’ve always assumed Davis would redshirt, based on this quote he gave to Washut: “I just came off of injury, so the facilities and the rehab they have there all played into me making my decision.” The injury happened, apparently, in the spring of 2017.

Link? If that were true, there should be a slew of high-major offers, and everyone in Nebraska would know—right?

How so? This 247 page has no such thing: https://247sports.com/player/shereef-mitchell-46055249

Just finished reading The Sports Gene—a fascinating read. Thanks for the excellent recommendation, khoock.

So . . . let's see: Signing Brady Heiman wasn't all that good of a deal--since he can only high jump 6'8" when he stands at 7 feet We should have recruited Daum--even though no one knew right away (even at the school he attended) that he'd end up being good This Shareef kid is a 2-star (if any stars) and has offers from only mid-majors until just recently We now predict that a recruit we did sign will do worse (four years hence) than the guy we didn't pursue--leg hair and all And we somehow should have gone for someone other than the player who is already on campus and proving (rumor has it) to be the real deal The reality is this: If Nebrasketball can sustain a fourth-place finish in the B1G more than twice every six years, Nebrasketball fans will come out of the woodwork--in every city and in every corner of this State, including Omaha. And the vast bulk of those 90,000 fans who sell out Memorial Stadium every Husker game day will be die-hard Nebrasketball fans as well. And the high school basketball studs throughout this State will flock to the Vault as well. Go Big Red!!!

According to Robin Washut; Davis is finally in Lincoln and enrolled for the second five-week summer session.

Cool! Thanks for posting. At a 500,000 population cutoff, every city in Nebraska is within the “relatively small city” classification. The comparison is between Omaha and Chicago, not between Omaha and Grand Island. Using that standard, the conclusion makes a lot of sense—especially about the “chance of rising to the top.”

From a January 23, 2018, message board post: "Providence has been hampered by injuries all season. . . . Freshman center Dajour Dickens hurt his back and has missed the last 16 games."

Wow. A poster’s 13th post is to trash Bill Moos?! That’s a new approach. But that post is incomplete—it leaves out some solid stuff about Kent. For example, it leaves out this: “While at Oregon, Kent led the Ducks to seven postseason appearances, including five NCAA Tournament Appearances (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008) as well as a Pac-10 regular-season (2002) and two conference tournament (2003, 2007) titles”; “Kent took two Oregon teams to the NCAA Elite Eight (2002 and 2007) and guided the Ducks to the NIT Final Four on two occasions (1999, 2004)”; ”Kent helped produce four NBA First Round Draft selections and became Oregon’s all-time wins leader”; and “Under Kent’s direction, the Duck men’s basketball team ranked No. 1 amongst Pac-10 schools in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate several times throughout his head coaching career.” Let’s stipulate that we don’t want Kent at Nebraska—for good reasons. But while trashing basketball Moos, let’s at least acknowledge the full picture—part of which is pretty darn good.
