  1. About ten years ago I made the front page of the OWH standing in the football stands at the end of a particularly bad football game. It was cold and the mood was sour. But I sit in a real good seat surrounded by pretty decent fans. But at the end of that particular game I was one of about five people left in the entire section. Not saying anything beyond that our fans do show up. We are not LA fans that arrive fashionably late and leave early. We are usually there on time, we typically are respectful and loud and we have a high percentage (typically) that will see it through to the end. That said, we have some that will always leave early. I can judge and my judgment is a thumbs down to them, but hey, they bought a ticket and we live in a country of the brave and the free. BUT, I also have the right to respectfully tell them that they should not be leaving early, and if they do, sneak out the back, and do not parade in front of me, distracting me from my game enjoyment.
  2. I don't know, I just done't know. I was encouraged with a few of the players coming in; but the lack of power players, and as importantly, depth at the power positions have been a living curse. If we get them, we can't keep them, or they haven't developed with very few exceptions, right? Duby - Grad transfer Jordy - left MJ - left Morrow - left Hammond - left Moses - Grad transfer Leslee - Juco Walt - Transfer, left early Cope - Transfer Isaiah - Recruit
  3. No, not at all. I have suggested four legit candidates and now two totally outside the box candidates. Seven since Coach Miles is still here.
  4. Hahahaha. Well, I was actually thinking of two individuals...Pike and Davison. But let me explain, well, there really isn't an explanation.
  5. Hmm. I guess I am now a ridiculous human being. Thanks for your professional and very informed opinion. That said, I said that I wasn't sure it was a better job, it was meant as fodder for further discussion. But I guess that is a ridiculous opinion. It is just that their history, is just that history. I am not certain that they are as big of a draw as they used to be. It was just that UNL is now part of the Big Ten, but I guess the ACC is so much better than the Big Ten these days. It was just a thought that our recent investment in facilities and our strong fan base may make UNL a bit more enticing. But hey, my rose colored glasses must have gotten in the way of reality. Sorry. So sorry!
  6. Close.
  7. LOL...I was sitting around thinking that perhaps we should go totally outside the box. We need to change the culture. Thus, we need a coach who understands what it takes to build the right culture. Somebody who has played in a program with strong culture. Somebody who has helped build a strong culture. Someone who understands Nebraska and and what it takes to become successful. Someone who has been around the basketball program and what it is going to take to move to the elite level. I know a possible name...do you?
  8. Man, I don't know Cazzie. There is a big part of me that would not rate the Wake Forest job as better than NU. Attendance sort of sucks there. Their history is not much better than ours. Their academic entry requirements are much stiffer than here.
  9. Historically, K-State has been an understudy to KU in basketball, and they were the worse football school in the nation until Snyder got there. Same basically holds true at ISU. They are the red-headed step child to Iowa. They have been hit and miss in both sports, although they have had much more success in basketball subsequent to the hiring of Johnny Orr. The exceptions were Wayne Morgan and Greg McDermott.
  10. How does Moos sell Nebraska and the position of head basketball coach? Here are some keys, what are the others? - Fans who will show up and get loud (note 20 game home win streak) - Arena that is state of art, new and provides a home game advantage - State of the art practice facility - Boosters and fans who care (even though it is not the #1 show in town) - Although numbers are not high, we do have high division one recruits in the region/area - Access to private jets for recruiting and so forth - Salary that will make you a top tier payed coach - Assistant salary pool that will allow you to bring in talented assistants - We may be a football school, but there are not any other competing sporting teams (for the most part) Yes there is Creighton and UNO and Lincoln Stars Hockey, but come on... - We have good if not great academic support - The challenge of "lack of history" can be offset by the esteem of having a statue built when you take the program to the promise land.
  11. I have held out hope that our offense will return, and to date, it hasn't. So for this game I am going to say our offense will still be absent...so perhaps the worm will turn. Huskers 52 Purdue 65
  12. Hmm, I didn't see anything and I was there an extra few minutes. But then again, my mind was sort of numb by then.
  13. I know that you were trying to make a strong point, but we haven't derailed careers. Joe Cipriano died. Moe walked out mad at the media and others and soon became head coach at TCU. Barry sort of left on his own and became AD at Butler. Doc landed on his feet as an assistant coach and then got a head coaching gig at Southern Mississippi and he seems very happy. When he got there, it was not a pretty program, but he seemed to like the challenge of rebuilding that program. And if I were a betting man, Coach Miles will land in a pretty good spot as well.
  14. Actually both Glynn and James seem to have altered their shots and foot positioning since the beginning of the season. I am not sure why, and I am unsure why they haven't seen it on film. But you are 1000% right. If you are practicing bad habits, then you are reinforcing those bad habits. You have change the behavior or habit, and then reinforce those changes. On another note, what has happened to our player spacing. We seem so clogged up, that any drive to the key is a mucked up mess.
  15. We seem to have loyal fans, who often leave early for one reason or another. Leaving early will never be understood by me. The fans, for the most part, seem to understand the game they are attending and they do not appear to be attending because it is the "place to be seen." So, despite some of my negative spins on occasion, we do have a very good fan base. Yes we do have our share of bandwagon jumpers and individuals who believe they are experts because they either played sports in HS or grade school or read a magazine article or two, or coached their kids in the Y leagues or whatever; but yeah, we are a good fan base. But it is pretty arrogant to believe we are the best. I will say this, it is much easier for KU, Duke, Kentucky and the other blue blood programs to have a great fan base. They are consistently in the NCAA tournament with trophies to prove it. Nebraska basketball fans show up (and leave early) seemingly whether we win or lose.
  16. I feel no different than I did last night. I guess I am unable to "will" the team to a win. I am sorry, others will likely disagree, but I just did not see this offensive implosion happening. Seeing the emotion from Coach Miles after the game, is heartbreaking. The team cares; the players, coaches and supporting cast appear to be trying; perhaps too much. I don't know, I really don't know. I guess we will find out about true fans the last few weeks. True fans will show up and cheer on the team. True story, my son told me about a family friend who did not go to the game last night because he had given up on the team. Come on man! This is when the team needs you the most...not when they are winning. I can be mad and upset and the myriad of other emotions that rattle around in my brain, but abandoning your team when they are struggling is NOT the answer.
  17. I have been mad for awhile...but now I am just sad. I don't believe I have ever seen a team struggle so much on the offensive side of the ball. Every shot seems to be difficult. We pass up open looks for tough shots. Confused...bad spacing...bad form....yada, yada, yada.
  18. Easy to say, but video doesn't lie.
  19. Lot of emotion tonight. I certainly was mad...but then I reverted to sad. Sad about the current state of the team and the program. Sad that yet another year is passing us by. Sad for the coaches and most importantly the players. The players play hard, but the thought that ran through my mind was that we play hard...but certainly not smart. We have little breakdowns that are catastrophic. Siggggghhhh. I still am totally astonished about how our offense simply left us. Nothing is easy...nothing.
  20. Gotta make it happen tonight...
  21. LOL...does Bill Walton do anything softly
  22. If we make a run, Coach Miles could be/should be retained. I am hoping for the best. But if we need to find a new coach, here are three names that the fan base should keep an eye on: - TRAVIS DECUIRE - DEDRIQUE TAYLOR - NATHAN DAVIS
  23. Perhaps we could hoop up with Wade's son as well.
  24. We are looking at Jace as a walk-on. It would be pretty cool if we could lock down both Jace and Charley Easely as walk ons. https://www.hudl.com/profile/8791052/Jace-Piatkowski Jacob Padillaā€¸ @JacobPadilla_ FollowFollow @JacobPadilla_ More 2019 Elkhorn South guard Jace Piatkowski was checking out #Nebrasketball practice today. The son of former Husker Eric Piatkowski is a potential walk-on candidate. I wrote about him a bit this weekend.
