We are in big trouble. They will not call a foul no matter how much contact is made. -
Indiana 10-3 VS. Nebraska 8-4 Game Day Thread

It appears that running with the ball is allowed in today's game. Need to take advantage of the new rule. -
We ranked lower last year. Yay? In other words, assist rate doesn't dictate our success nearly as much as turnover rate. Yes - we run an offensive style that does not produce high assist numbers and that was true last year also. We don't push the tempo which leads to assists on fast breaks and we tend to break down defenses with the dribble rather than pass rotations. That was the same last year. The key difference is turnovers which are much higher this season. Of course people tend to forget we had some pretty bad games in December last year also. All everyone seems to remember about last season are the games from late January to early March. Actually, through 10 games last year we were avg. 9.9 turnovers per game. This year, we are avg. 15.5 per game.

To be a devil's advocate. Do we get White, Marrow, and/or Watson by making an NIT run?

I can understand exclamation points after a two overtime win but I couldn't muster one for whatever you call what happened tonight. Big win yes. Huge problems if we drop three in a row but I repeat myself: I'm a fan of well played basketball and a nebraskaball fan. It's too bad I can't watch the two at the same time. After the week the players, fans, and coaches had it would have been a difficult loss to take. We really needed it. I liked some things I saw. Walt being the biggest. He has a bright future if he can bring it like that every night, and start hitting his shots. This team will go as Walt goes. -

Walt was huge!! 48 minutes, 10 huge boards!! Still struggled shooting, but I will take that effort every night. David was also huge!! 47 minutes!! Only credited with 8 rebounds!! A bunch of rebounds the others got were because he did a fantastic job boxing out!! Tai also played well!! Struggled a little on defense, but went 6-6 from the line, had a huge offensive rebound to extend the play for Benny's game winner, and had his biggest 3 of his career (could be because he hasn't made many :-) It was a nice win when Terran and Shavon struggled, going 8-24 from the floor. Key stats: Only outrebounded by 1, and went 20-23 from the line. -

BTW, rewarding the defensive player for being off balance on Shields is getting ridiculous. -

If Pitchford brought this effort every game, this team would be much better. He's played great defense inside, has boxed out like a beast, and went to the ball on rebounds. 9 points and 8 boards with 11 minutes left. WTF is the Cincinnati coach complaining about. His team reaches and grabs more than Ohio State did with Craft on the team. It must suck when the other team is allowed to do that too. -

It's kind of surprising we are only ahead 4. It feels like Rivers and Pitchford have played very well so far. Pitchford has seemed more physical down low, and boxed out well tonight. Ditto for Rivers. However, when Terran and Shavon have scored only 13 points combined with 9 turnovers, I can then understand. -

If we play defense like the first 8 minutes, we are going to be alright. Us Always!!! -
I think the biggest thing that helped us during a hot stretch last year was the fact the Big 10 couldn't shoot the 3. Nebraska was 7th in the Big 10 in 3 point FG %, but 206th in the nation. It allowed us to play off the 3 point shooters, because there was a good chance they were going to miss them.

I think the last 2 games that has hurt us on the defensive end. We seem to not trust the other player, and leave our man to help too early. That leads to a wide open 3 point shooter. That is why our defense has struggled. Add to that Benny's injury, no interior defense and it makes for a recipe for disaster. -
Even in a "bad year" we can NOT ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever lose to Incarnate Word.

Why do you keep ripping on Tai? Yes, he is not playing very well offensively. For the most part, he's played good defense. He is trying to adjust to a new position. He is not the only player on the team that has sucked. The whole team has had brain farts. He only played 17 minutes. He scored 7 points and 2 rebounds. He was NOT the reason we lost. -
This playing down to the competition needs to stop. We have it done it for the last 2 years. You don't take a team seriously and finally it came to bite us. We need one on one meetings again asking this team if they want to play defense. This team has played piss poor defense all year. You see what happened last year when they played good defense. We are getting outcoached so bad. Why did we not send down a double team was abusing all of our big men, and get the ball out of his hands? Even the announcer talked about him never passing the ball when he got it down low. Take the guy on the other side of the court, and double him. Force him to get rid of the ball!!!!!

Who else thinks last year was the mirage? I have a feeling Nebraska basketball is going down fast. This team lucked out last year. People have figured this team out. We have no discipline. No offense. No defense. We turn the ball over. We can't shoot. This team right now is bad. -

100% agree Shields and Petteway can score 20 each per game, but we still aren't going to be very good unless Pitchford and Tai play better. We have a better chance to win if Shields scores 20 because he is much more efficient. Before this game Shields was avg. 1.82 points per shot. If he did that tonight, he scores 18 and we win by 1 (I realize the game is different if he scores 18). Petteway was avg. 1.31 points per shot. He would have had 26. -

This goes to show this team will only be as good as Shields is on offense. Petteway is going to score because he's going to shoot a good majority of the time.
