  1. Speaking of historic interest, 49er's post and the fact that I am presently reading a book on CCNY's NCAA championship (and scandal) in 1950 made me look up all of the NCAA winners since 1930. Of course that includes UCLA's Wooden era. Using that yardstick, West Coast teams outnumber Big !0 champions, 16-11. Brought back some memories too. I vaguely recall KU's Phog Allen and Clyde Lovellette team of 1952. The first game I remember listening to on the radio was the Tom Gola- led LaSalle team in 1954. The first game I saw on tv (since we didn't get one until 1957) was the triple overtime classic that year when North Carolina beat Wilt's KU team in triple overtime. It was only televised locally because it happened to be played at the old KC Municipal Auditorium (we could only get reception from Kansas City since we lived nearby). Didn't much matter because there were only three networks, anyway. Times seem to have changed a bit, but at least the ball is still round.
  2. Overrated: 1.Frank Martin 2. Danny Manning, Underrated: Mark Few ( has coached at a small, West Coast school which always seems to be close, but hasn't won it all)
  3. We have 9 games left before the league tourney. Let's say, hypothetically, that we manage to win 2 of them and then somehow upset the first team we play in the tourney. How many here would consider that to be a successful season? Before we started the year a 10-23 record would have been disappointing. At this point, it would be a miraculous finish and I would be sort of happy.
  4. Instead of building toward a crescendo, we seem to be running in mud.
  5. Iowa 82 NU 70 I am beginning to sense a theme in this thread.
  6. But you can't mean HHC is not essential?
  7. No comment on last night's game. I'm just going to enjoy the Super Bowl (as long as the Chiefs win).
  8. Kidney? Is that you, Kidney?
  9. Is it my imagination or does it seem like when one or two of the best opposition players are sitting out games against us, we never do well? In fact, seldom-used opponent replacements step up and have big games. Pat Chambers should just sit all of his starters if he wants to win by 30.
  10. Between the weather, the fiasco in Washington, and making it through this thread, Hump day looks a bit gloomy. I think I'll skip thinking about Penn State and direct my focus toward the Super Bowl. Watching the Chiefs win on Ground Hog day would be sweet. Can hardly wait for Sonny and Cher.
  11. Might as well get this over with. PSU 76 NU 70.
  12. Losing is no fun. I think we should start aiming toward that March 1 matchup with Northwestern.
  13. Tragic news for all 9 aboard. As one who has had some experience in these situations, I will bet that it was a case of disorientation and pilot error. Should have never been cleared to take off, especially if the pilot was using visual clues to navigate.
  14. This old article which probably has been posted long ago but is still relevant.https://bustingbrackets.com/2017/08/29/college-basketball-new-recruiting-hotbed-iceland/
  15. Finally, a losing streak will be broken! 5 gamelosing streak (us)-74, 4 game losing streak (them)-72
  16. Youngsters
  17. If "ifs and buts..." -no point in bringing this up, but I do wonder if Roby had returned to NU 1. how many more games we would have won at this point. 2. If he might have gotten an even better pro contract than he did last year 3. How many more assists Mack would have.4. If Bardo would still be wondering when he would realize how good he was. Just some random thoughts to ponder before today's game. Now pass the candy and nuts.
  18. I hope you have some inside knowledge. The Zags would seem to be pretty tempting if they offer.
  19. Our success this year hinges upon how accurate our opponents are from the three point line. Unfortunately Wisconsin couldn't miss. Our best hope against Rutgers is that they bring a big load of bricks along on Saturday.
  20. Most of us have getting a degree as our primary goal anyway. Playing basketball for a living may not be the best long- term plan for life fulfillment. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.
  21. Trying to come up with a cogent comment this morning but the game went pretty much as expected. Watched it on live tv at least, just to avoid the impeachment stuff. I'll stop here and refrain from pettifogging.
  22. De Souza has been a bit of a problem for the Jayhawks . I wonder how many folks had left early to beat the crowd. Amazing that Self's toup remained in place.
  23. Rut 82 Neb 65 12 Asst. (bonus question -will they have more dunks than we will have misses at the rim)
  24. Aha-I misinterpreted your original post.
  25. I think it is hard enough to get any player to voluntarily sit a year, let alone multiple players. I would assume this is a "wish list " of potentials.
