  1. I vote to have Norm negotiate future coaching contracts. At least he will be aware that most successful coaches were once young up-and-comers with something to prove. Coach K. and old Roy are the first to come to mind. The trick is in separating the wheat from the chaff. The other way to success seems to be hiring someone a little bit sleazy and hope he is not caught.
  2. Random thoughts: 1. How does Painter always seem to recruit a giant awkward goon at center? i wonder if he was a big fan of Lurch when he watched the Adams family as a kid. 2. I wish it would be acceptable to just forfeit going to Purdue and devote more practice for the Indiana game?
  3. I refuse to declare this year's (2022) ROCK BOTTOM yet-and that is not good. I sincerely hope that this does not become a yearly tradition for me.
  4. I think we have all noted a lack of passion in Fred's sideline demeanor and attributed it to his laid-back personality. When I read about the 18.5 million buy-out clause, I was reminded of a saying made by on old Pittsburg Steeler player which went " It is hard to play (coach) hungry when you are walking around with a ham slung over your shoulder".

  6. As usual Nebraska showed its uncanny ability to transform an unknown player into a superstar.

  8. To celebrate the holiday festivities I will present a new palindrome I learned this year. (It beats "Able was I ere I saw Elba"). I offer it in honor of Oklahoma's Bowl victory: "A slut nixes sex in Tulsa". Cheers and Happy New Year to all.
  9. I see we don't play Penn State twice so I'll settle for the first game that no one has picked so far. It is too depressing to actually think about each game individually.
  10. I think my son still has Miki Moore's student I.D. which he left when he was working at one of those Quick Check places. I'll take the Penn State game which hasn't been picked, whenever that is.
  11. Great first post, Chad. With your level of pessimism, you deserve to be an honorary member of the board here.
  12. Philosophical question of the day: If a loss falls in the COVID does anyone have to count it?
  13. Thanks, Norm. My dad, who was in the Battle of the Bulge, always liked this classic movie.
  14. We saw them perform this in Lincoln a few years ago. I'm glad that one of the brother's basketball career didn't pan out.
  15. I'll go with Delvie Lewis, Jojo White, Ron Franz, Al Lopes, and Walt Wesley.

  17. Let's hope he is right. At least it gives us something to look forward to. I wonder if the "hot seat" thread will still be adding pages by then?
  18. Denny Zager was born in Wymore and now lives in Lincoln. He builds guitars. Rick Evans was born in Lincoln and is deceased. (L. Kent Wolgamott wrote an interesting eulogy for him in a 2019 LJS piece, for those interested). I couldn't find where they went to high school. Thanks for the memories of 1969, Cip-the year I got married.
  19. I hate to say this, but Fred may have peaked as a coach at ISU when transfers were the exceptions rather than the rule and he was one of the first to recognize their value. A lot has changed in college basketball since then.
