  1. It was definitely an interesting decision, given the financial implications. We would have paid less for Riley when he went to coach in AAF and paying Eichorst early leads to cash flow/time value of money issues. Had we kept them on the books, we likely safe money in the big picture. So I wonder if they had pressure just to get those obligations off the books.
  2. You can mash the data together from here: https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings They also include a link at the bottom of the NET rankings that has the latest team sheets for every DI team.
  3. This is why Texas is in the field and we're left with a lot more work to do: NU/Texas/Indiana NET: 45 / 37 / 55 Avg opp NET: 87 / 79 / 89 Avg opp rank: 13 / 7 / 16 SOS: 82 / 10 / 37 NC SOS: 199 / 16 / 189 KPI: 68 / 33 / 60 SOR: 61 / 55 / 54 BPI: 34 / 29 / 48 POM: 42 / 27 / 48 SAG: 39 / 29 / 43 Q1: 2-10 / 4-7 / 5-9 Q2: 5-3 / 4-3 / 1-5 Q3: 3-0 / 4-2 / 2-0 Q4: 4-0 / 3-0 / 6-0 Q1+Q2: 7-13 / 8-10 / 6-14
  4. Which part? That we're in talks? Or an actual deal is in the works? Those are two entirely different things.
  5. Wisconsin didn't have any tradition of either football or basketball success on a grand scale... now they're at least nationally relevant in both, on a near-annual basis. Wonders never cease to amaze how NU has not been to sustain any sort of momentum in hoops, more than the 4 years from '91-94, that is. Just because it's an easy scapegoat to make us feel better, let's just chalk it up to March Boehm's legacy from 2003-present.
  6. News just came out that the radio guy will be returning at the end of this season. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26093239/banned-iowa-announcer-return-season?platform=amp
  7. Back at it next season: http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26093239/banned-iowa-announcer-return-season?platform=amp
  8. The argument was that Matta is a slim shot because he was stressed and now has a different view on life. Lue isn't any different, other than Matta has decided to forego coaching for now and Lue decided to continue coaching. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Matta gets back into the game at some point. And who knows, maybe this is the year he decides to come back?
  9. Imagine the national headline: "Football School is Now Taking Its Basketball Seriously."
  10. Considering we average under 0.5 conference tournament wins since joining the Big Ten, it's not looking so good for us. Our best bet is winning 2-3 remaining conference games and 1-2 Big Ten tournament games.
  11. He was going to come the first time, but you just need to convince his wife this time around.
  12. I don’t see us shelling out that kind of money either. I hope they’re willing to pay that much for a big name hire, but I’m not going to hold my breath. Knowing our luck, we end up shelling out that much money and we hear the name and say "who?".
  13. Not that it would be any different this year, but in life "timing" can be everything.
  14. I'm somewhere in the middle. Miles has done a great job getting in players, but you need to be able to fill the rest of the roster with some sustainability. I think the angst from Miles isn't as much the reliance of transfers, but that regardless of transfer or high school recruit, he's still unable to get a true center.
  15. I'm not so sure how SkersBall would ever get praise for saying that they know someone who said that Nebraska is in talks with Hoiberg. But to each their own. Now if SkersBall was the one kissing Hoiberg's feet and talked him into coaching here, that's another story.
  16. Couldn't a similar logic be said about Tyronn Lue? http://www.nba.com/article/2018/05/31/cleveland-cavaliers-tyronn-lue-reveals-treated-anxiety
  17. I'm on board with paying some real competitive pay, but with that comes expectations. Say we pay Lue $8-10M for 7 years. Say he does get a few good players that want to play here. But then his career goes kind of like how Miles' has. Now we're out $70M vs. the $15M or so we paid Miles. That is an extreme amount of money for an unproven coach on the collegiate scale who has found major success when he has NBA's greatest players on his roster. Tom Crean was able to snag a 5-star recruit from Kentucky's hands, but we'll see where that gets Georgia. Only time will tell. And it didn't take Crean $70M to get that recruit.
  18. This is absolutely absurd! Louisville has a 3-year average revenue of $45M. The Knicks are valued at $4B and have annual revenues of $443M. This would be completely irresponsible of an athletic director and I would be wondering why the university president was keeping a leader like that around who is irresponsible with the budget without a reasonable plan for an ample ROI out of that payout.
  19. Not to derail too much, but I think it's still applicable. If FBS conferences go with this approach, it would likely cause more FBS bottom dwellers to defect to Division II. But that's not the worst thing. It's almost like "rightsizing." Savannah State has taken a stance on this and other schools may eventually follow suit: https://www.forbes.com/sites/bdavidridpath/2017/04/23/trust-me-savannah-state-you-are-doing-the-right-thing-by-downsizing-athletics-more-should-do-same/
  20. Here's an interesting proposal to get rid of the FCS cupcakes: https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/02/26/former-big-12-president-proposes-strategic-alliance-with-the-pac-12-the-conferences-should-embrace-the-future-together/amp/ A former Big 12 president wants the Big 12 and Pac-12 to partner up and play crossover games for their nonconference games every year. Not a horrible idea. But if I was Oklahoma or Texas, the idea of partnering with the Pac-12 would drive me to want to move to the Big Ten. Or at least partner with the Big Ten instead.
  21. I am not sure what the correlation here is?! That you can't expect things to be solid black or white. Expectations and reality have been pretty fickle with this program, so you just never know what may happen.
  22. Nick Saban is making $7.9M this season. Who knew he was in the wrong business?
  23. By the way, thanks @49r for representing Pomeroy and making this such a fun chase to outdo the "predictive scoring overlords"!
