I think this will be the most evenly matched NU/CU game in years. I think it might be the most competitive, too. We won't have seen an environment like we'll see on Wednesday, though. I'll be curious to see how they handle that. I'm really anxious to see how that game plays out. NU hasn't won a regular season in Omaha vs. Creighton in 20 years. That is almost incomprehensible to me. Half of NU's roster wasn't even alive.

BTW, this is not something that's ever happened to me.

Any hope of a big man next year?

Word is he's the best guy on the floor at practice. That's what I've heard as well. His problem at Louisville was that he was the 10th best guy on the floor. Wonder what that's like... -
Groselle said afterwards it wouldn't have mattered because it was going in anyway. I haven't seen video of it to know if he was right or not.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 8, vol 8 - Miami
uneblinstu replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'm ok with Benny starting...if Tai keeps up his improved offensive output. I like the tone the starting five sets and Watson will still see 20+ minutes a game. He still gets lost a fair amount on D, though he's gotten better at that as we've gone along. -
I'm gonna have to make this quick: - Shields was a beast today, but I thought at couple of times he tried to take on too much. He wasn't quite the same after he went out briefly there in OT. - As good as Shields is on offense, I think Tai is as good on defense. We weren't the same once he left. On the offensive side of the ball, as a certain Omaha radio personality and former football player likes to say, Tai is now trending. In a good way. Hope he keeps it up, it makes the team much more dangerous. - White has a tendency to disappear at times. I don't know if he struggled or Miami did a good job at taking him out of the game, but it seemed like they said they'd let Shavon get his, but White wasn't going to beat them. - I like that Benny's becoming someone defenses are at least going to have to acknowledge. - Watson's got a little Petteway in him. I don't necessarily mean that in a negative way. That shot he hit at the end of regulation was a grown man's shot. He's not scared. - Morrow isn't either. I love it. His points will come, but right now he's doing yeoman's work in the paint. - Hammond gets lost at times on defense, but I think he's holding up as well as can be expected, perhaps even better at times. Nice surprise how well he's playing. Hope he keeps getting better. - This was a pretty high level game. Should serve us well down the road, just wish we could have won it. - I'm not really disappointed in the free throw disparity. I was kind of expecting it. The total fouls, until the end, were pretty even, it's just that theirs came in the paint, ours were on the perimeter. That led to the free throw disparity. There were a few that naturally I thought should have been called, however. There's a thread about that already, that discussion can go on there. But considering the makeup of the two rosters, I wasn't too surprised they went to the line more than we did. That's probably going to be an issue a lot this year. - I think we've largely found our rotation 8 deep, with Jacobson occasionally getting in. - This looks like an NIT team to me. They're a post and a half away from being a tournament team. Still maintain they'll be a team nobody will want to play down the stretch. - Thought McVeigh got a bit of an education tonight. Got turned around several times on defense. I don't think I've ever seen Miles lose his cool on a player like he did tonight. That might have been a little over the top. - Miami's a pretty good team. They're a team that if they catch a break or two in March could find themselves in the Final Four. Right now, they're every bit a top 15 team, I think. They've got just about everything. They can shoot, they can get to the rim, they've got good post players. They might struggle a little defensively at spots, but they're a very solid team. That's all I've got for now. uneblinstu's post game chatter: ed 8, vol 7 - Tennessee
uneblinstu replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Obviously I couldn't watch this one but I would take exception to your "not the style per se" comment. I don't know what style you prefer but I would say this team is 100 x's better to watch than last year's team and from strictly a style perspective for me, more enjoyable than two years ago. I know we made the dance but stylistically, too much standing around and 1 on 1 for my taste. This team runs more and shares more in the half court, back cuts and assists, things if beauty for me. My comment wasn't about style of play. Yes, that is prettier than we've seen in, well, a long, long time. My comment was more to the attitude they seem to be developing. I like that a lot. This team plays hard. Even against Villanova. That can take this game a long way, especially when you combine it with an increased ability to score the ball. They need to learn to do it on the road, not sure if that will happen this year or not. -
- I thought finding away to not come home empty handed this weekend was a big deal for them. They found a way to do that. I like the way they're playing. Not the style, per se, but the attitude. I think that will serve them well if they can maintain that. - Shields foul trouble again. That's going to have to get ironed out. - White didn't do much this weekend until the second half today. Hopefully it's just a blip. - Rebounded really well today. With Tennessee also lacking size, Hammond really had an opportunity to have a good game and he took advantage. Still think he can be pretty good on the offensive end this year. Think it's going to be a long year for him on that end. - Watson, McVeigh and Tai really played well in both games, that's a really good thing, especially if they can carry that over into other games. - I liked this tweet: - Pretty balanced effort today. That's good to see. - Still think this team should be a better free throw shooting team. Almost let Tennessee back into the game. - Decent assist numbers today. - A little concerned about how much they'll have left in the tank for Miami on Tuesday. - All-in-all, good win today. That will play well later in the season, I believe.

Did this feel like an old Phillips 66 Big 8 game of the week to anyone else? -

Hammond's growing on me. Especially on the offensive end. Watson's growing up, too. If they bring the fight they did today, I'll call this team a success. They have their deficiencies, but if they play as hard as they did today, nobody will want to play them. I think they'll do it in PBA, they'll need to learn to do it in a hostile gym. The team two seasons ago figured out how to do what down the stretch, last year's didn't. -
I think we'll see them play well at home in big games this year.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 8, vol 5 - UAPB

Gotta stay the course on it, though. If the refs can stick with it, it will open the game up a lot once teams and players adjust. Just gotta get through the adjustment period and it'll take diligence and patience on a lot of people's part to get there. -

That pass he had to White for the lay in was gorgeous. -
Remember when scoring 67 was an encouraging offensive performance? Man, those were the days. - Really, there isn't a ton to complain about. They got the normal shots they do, but I think the UAPB length bothered them a little early which led to the slow start. - Thought this was perhaps their best defensive game of the season. - I liked that we got to sit Shavon, White, Benny and Tai for most of the 2nd half. - I also liked that unlike the other game, we didn't let the other team back into the game. That showed a lot of growth on the 2nd teamers. - Felt like no one was really comfortable stepping into that third scorers role tonight. McVeigh, Tai and Benny all felt a little tentative in the scorers end of things. - I can't wait until Morrow doesn't have to play the 5. - Thought this was Watson's best game on the defensive end. - I feel like we should be a better free throw shooting team than we are. 70%'s not bad, I guess, but considering how many shooters we've got on this team, it seems like we should be a little better. - I just like a lot of what I'm seeing from this team, even though they didn't shoot particularly well tonight. I'll be curious to see how they handle a good opponent in what I'm expecting will be a fairly sparsely attended game on Friday. A split this weekend would be a really nice result for this team. I'm not sure how much of the games I'll get to see this weekend. If ESPN3 has a replay available Friday evening, I'll hopefully get to watch it tape delayed. Saturday will depend on when they play whether or not I'll be able to get a chatter up. Norm might be on Chatter duty this weekend. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I didn't hate the shorts, but I'd put this there instead. Except Herbie needs to be spinning a basketball on his finger instead of carrying a football. I did a quick search, didn't find it, but yeah, that would be better! I admittedly didn't look that hard, though...

Yep. Do it for the Miami game, reinforce the stereotypes, then run 'em off the floor.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 8, vol 4 - SE Louisiana

The guy behind me told his 10 year old the same thing. His shooting stats so far aren't impressive. Was this an issue for Glynn before he came to NU? I don't recall it from his highlight tapes? What about from what we saw from him in Spain? And he is not shy about shooting either. If Andrew White is taking the most shots each game, we have a problem. He is clearly out best shooter but have games where Watson is attempting more shots. That should not happen. Yes and no. Watson forces the issue a little more and has more ability to create his own shot. AW3, it requires a little more effort, they're running plays to get him shots. I don't have a huge problem with the number of shots Watson takes if they're in the design of the offense. If he's going off on his own (and I'm not smart enough to know if that's what he's doing or not), that's where the issue would come in for me. He's a capable enough scorer/shooter that I'm not cringing when he has the ball or goes up for a shot. -

Thought it was in interesting mash-up. Honestly didn't know the "Huskers" script was still in use at NU. Loved the cream look, though.

Not gonna lie: I wanted 100. I wanted to hold them under 50. - In the pregame, Coach Miles said SE Louisiana was decent on the front wave of defense, but if you could get through that, they struggled at the rim. He said if NU could get to the rim, they'd be in good shape. They did. He was right. This might be the worst team we play. Northern St. might beat them. - Not sure I've ever seen a NU team have that sort of advantage at halftime. 53-16 is impressive. - When he fully emptied the bench, we were up 40 +. I'm content with that. The bench just couldn't get the ball to go in to get to 100. - This game was tailor made for Tai to have a big game. He took advantage of it. Not going to get to excited about it until he puts a few of them back to back. - Best game for Watson, too. Looked a lot better on defense, too. - Foul trouble kept White from having much impact. That's ok. The kids needed the experience more than he did. - I looked up and Jacobsen had 11 points. I don't even know how that happened. - Johnny Trueblood is no Jake Muhleisen. - I honest to goodness thought Borchardt was going to will us to 100 when he came in. - Fuller, man, didn't have his best game. - Shields and White combined for 14 points and we still got to 92. That's impressive. - 52 rebounds is a lot. - Took better care of the ball (before some sloppyness at the end). - 5 guys in double figures. 11 found their way into scoring column. Laws, Fuller, Borchardt didn't tally any points. I really don't know how much we learned in this one. I really don't.

Where is Parkview Christian? N 1st and Superior. Had a friend of mine that taught there several years ago.
