  1. Yeah, Illinois fans aren't too thrilled with Groce on this one...
  2. When was the last time they won 3 straight conference games by 10+ with two of them being on the road?
  3. Learning curve. Those "if onlys" were learned from and we're seeing the lessons learned. That's part of the deal most of the time.
  4. I disagree a bit. We picked a couple road wins against .500 or worse teams. We lost 2 at home we could have won. If we wanted to finished above .500 in league we should be 5-1. Our remaining schedule is brutal. Not really. Four of the next five are brutal, but after that, there's a bunch of games where we're right in the mix.
  5. Probably did that for Matt.
  6. - Groce talking to his team about playing with an edge. We'll see if they play with it and if we match it. - Nunn not getting the start? Interesting... - Another quick start. I like that. - Not sure about that foul on AW on the 3. - Morrow doing a pretty good job of setting screens to free up Shields in traffic. Led to an open shot. - Watson doing a great job of creating his own shot. It's still a little flat, but it goes in. - That 3 by Tate for Illinois seemed to wake Illinois up. - Struggling to get White free early. - More exotic adjustments on defense. I like it. - You know Morrow's been waiting for a finish like that! That was strong! The Chicago boys playing well early! - Giving Illinois too many good looks on the perimeter. - McVeigh doing a good job of getting into the middle of the Illini defense. - Getting a decent number of offensive boards. - Illinois not sending anyone after offensive boards. - This is a big game for both teams. They're both playing like it. Pretty good game, actually. - Winning the battle in the paint, mostly on effort. - White not shooting well in the first half, but getting to the line. Finding ways to contribute. - Tai becoming the player we all hoped he'd be and it's beautiful. - 12 point lead at the under 4 time out. 35-23. - I echo Morris' praise of Parker's hustle. - Great finish to the half! Big to to go into the half up 9. Get the ball out of the break, too. - Not a great start to the 2nd. Turnover, foul by Shields. - Don't want to put ILL on the line much. - Illinois coming out with more intensity to start the half. Giving NU fits. - Threw a little trapping action at them, seemed to catch Illinois by surprise. - Watson's gonna be something of a rally killer, huh? Hits some big time shots. - Shields with a really touch stretch to start the half. - So, Watson's brother went to Illinois, he was a top 100 player from Chicago and Illinois didn't go after him? - NU hit some big shots to keep Illinois from going on big time run. - I like how NU responded after Illinois punched to start the half. Lead back up to 14. Illinois counters, down to 5... - Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. Punch-counter punch. - Benny Parker draws a pretty big offensive foul on Hill. - What a big find by Watson of White on the press break! They've had an answer for every run so far. - They're playing with a lot of confidence right now. - Illinois conceded the rebound on Hill's free throws. Interesting. - NU doing all the little things right. - Goodness, NU's really owned the paint, huh? - Glynn Watson, NBBS. Nothing But Big Shots. - Up 6. 1:40 left. Can they hold them at bay? - The free throws, from GW, though... - Why didn't the Illinois fans leave at the under 4 mark? - White's gotta hit those free throws... - When was the last time NU won 3 straight conference games by 10 or more? - Solid win for this program. Really tough one comes up next, but I'll remind you, NU has a winning streak vs. MSU.
  7. That's about as good a half as we could ask for.
  8. College basketball can be goofy sometimes.
  9. Big game for both teams. Playing like it. Pretty good game, so far.
  10. Seems like we've started getting a little more exotic with our defenses the past couple of weeks. Switching defenses a lot more than we did earlier in the season. Throwing in more zone, some pressing, along with more common man and pack line defense we've grown accustomed to. Could be a product of the opponent or perhaps they're just getting more comfortable as they get more experience. Or a little of both. I think the move towards being a little more creative and keeping teams guessing is a good strategy for this team.
  11. Nah, most people I've talked to at the game were pretty impressed.
  12. I actually enjoyed that quite a bit.
  13. This game didn't show up on my WatchESPN app until it was 21-7, so that was awesome. Sounds like White hit some shots. Some other guys did, too. Whatevs. When I did finally get to the game, NU had a bad offensive possession and fouled a Rutgers player that got wide open on an inbounds. Sounds about right. - Wait, Rutgers has been to a Final Four? Man... - Is it just me or are the ambient mikes turned up a touch high? The censor better be on high alert near that NU bench. - I do like that NU came out and got up on Rutgers early. That's a team that you don't want to give hope to. NU's better, they made sure to not take anything for granted. - A little weird to see a TV crew not have court side seats. - Did you see that triple bounce pass that took a left turn from on it's way from White to Benny? That was cool. - Glad to see someone other than Tai air ball a finger roll. - When was the last time NU had a 17 point first half lead? - Is it just me or has White been more willing to let it fly the past few games? - NU's really outclassing Rutgers in just about every way possible. - The team NU plays almost always gets into the bonus before we do. That can't be a conicidence. - That reverse putback from Morrow was purrty. So was the offensive rebound before it. A flash... More please. - That dish by Parker, too! Got three Rutgers defenders to collapse, Morrow was wide open. - Rutgers is one of the worst rebounding teams I've ever seen. - They turn it over a lot, too. - I think I saw two of the worst free throw attempts I've ever seen. - 20 point first half lead. Not sure I've ever seen that from an NU team in a conference game. - 19 points from AW3 at that half is pretty good. Think he was motivated to play before the home crowd? - I don't think the team that has the possession arrow should get the ball to start the second half. I'd like to see either the team that didn't get it in the first or another jump ball. - Morrow was great today, yes, but this was the closest thing he's seen to a high school front court. Would like to see more of this vs. a bigger team. - Not sure if they have it on the ESPNU broadcast or just on WatchESPN stream, but the X-factor commercial with Coach K is kinda hilarious. - I'm not really sure what to take from this game. Obviously, a blow out win on the road is never a bad thing, but Rutgers is really, really bad. White was great. NU rebounded well but Rutgers would be undersized vs. some really good AAU teams. NU really was able to do whatever they wanted. Build on it. Get another one Tuesday night.
  14. Had a chance at 100 before emptying the bench. That woulda been cool.
  15. This is a get right game for NU. Needed one of those.
  16. I've heard that it's 6 for the regular season and then they'll get to be a part of the adidas post season program again, which will be 2 more. So, 8 total.Any word on what the other options we haven't seen yet look like? I'd love to see the red version of the new Huskers unis. Maybe even black. Not sure we'll be seeing anything black for awhile.I've heard different. Ok, but I can guarantee you, 100%, that you won't see any this year. Again, I've heard different.
  17. That's gonna happen when your opponent put a team on the floor where no one is taller than 6' 3". Vs. Rutgers, we look huge. Not sure I'd reecommend making a rebounding judgment off a performance vs. the Scarlet Knights.

  19. Except Doc tried to do that with ALL his recruits. That's not what Miles is doing. He's going to have four to six guys on the roster that are very high end talent that allows you to develop a handful of kids like Wingett or Strom.
  20. Yeah, but it's Miles's job to spot recruits that no one else thought would be any good and figure out which of those recruits no one else thought would be any good will actually pan out and then only recruit the ones who will pan out even when only a handful of the bottom-end D1 programs felt the kid was worthy of an offer. And if any of those local kids who didn't get offers from anyone good goes anywhere else and does reasonably well, then we can say Miles is an idiot for not having had the foresight to offer a kid that ended up being pretty decent even though only a handful or fewer other D1 coaches extended an offer. We, the fans, are entitled to use hindsight. Did any fans on this message board have Mike Daum anywhere on their radars prior to a couple of days ago? I'm interested in seeing the posts from people saying we should offer him. I agree, my argument is a general one that we should look harder at Nebraska kids. Daum looks like one of those rare kids who might come out of nowhere. Plus, nobody can say even at this point how good he'll be. I thought Norfolk's Tyler Hagedorn was worth a scholarship, could have let him know he would redshirt and would have to make up ground physically. We had a scholarship open, but instead we've made a run at supposedly better prospects who don't want to come here. Hagedorn's a 6-10 true freshman and is averaging 13 minutes for South Dakota (they're pretty mediocre), shooting 32.5% of 40 3pt attempts. Some of that is against mediocre competition, but he had 6 points and 6 rebounds against Illinois in 20+ minutes. He would have been redshirting here, but might have been useful in a year or two. (I'm not his dad, if you're wondering.) +1 (is that even still a thing?) And there's no reason they can't do that the other Norfolk kid, Strom. I'd get David Wingett from Winnebego on board, too. He's putting up 27 points a game. I'd love to see those two in the 2017 class. Or what about the leading scorer in the state, Bart Hiscock from Bennington, he's putting up 28 and 8, oh, and he's 6' 8" 225 and he's a senior. He can shoot, rebound and runs the floor well. You're telling me that kid can't contribute in a couple of years? With one Nebraska kid already in the fold for 2017, and if that team is as good as a lot of people think it can be, I think there'd be room for Arop, Strom and Wingett to recruit and develop. It'd be unlikely that they play much anyway.
  21. People did that when Miles was hired, then he took a team to the NCAA tournament in his second year and people were cool with it. There may have been an uproar when he would have signed, but if he turned into a capable player, people would have gotten over his lack of rated-ness. If he turns into something really, really good, there will be more of an outcry than there would have been if he had signed with such a low rating.
