  1. He had that sweet little hook shot in the lane in the first half. You really saw his wing span come into play there. Let's not get greedy now, Norm. Remember last year when we didn't even have a first threat out there an now you want a fourth? But yeah, that would be nice. Not sure who that'd be, though. Fuller... He was a 3 point specialist in high school. It's time he gets it back!Sent from my LGLS990 using Tapatalk Except I think he's the tenth player in a nine man rotation...
  2. How many teams at Nebraska's level are four freshman and a sophomore who's never played into the rotation? Not many. I think it's part of the learning curve.

  4. That was about as unfulfilling as a 15 point win could be. - I love Shavon Shields. I really do, but sometimes I think he tries to take on too much of the burden. He looks a lot like the 2013-14 version of himself in many ways, but there were a couple of times where he needed to get rid of the ball and he kept it. A couple of times where he probably tried to do much with the ball. - Andrew White III: Rinse, repeat. - Turnovers were a problem again. 16 more. - I liked that we had 19 assists, though. - Probably because they won, I liked that Miles had at least one freshman on the floor during DSU's run. I like that they got some experience in that situation, even though in the end it was Shields and White that broke the run. I like that Miles didn't call a time out there and let them fight through it. - I'm convinced that Watson is the far and away best offensive guard on the team. It's not even close. However, he was a huge defensive liability tonight. He got blown by at least four times during the Hornets run. He's got the talent in him to play defense, it's just moving really fast for him on that end of the floor, I think. - Morrow didn't have a very good game, I don't think. I'm not sure I've ever seen three fouls called on a player in such a short period of time as he did today. - Thought the offense looked better tonight. More movement, crisper passing. - I thought this was one of Benny's better games offensively. If he can be someone teams have to acknowledge on defense, that will be a huge help in opening things up. - Tai and Benny are still really good perimeter defenders. I just wish they could provide more offensive punch. We saw maximum Energizer Benny tonight a couple of times. That was fun to see. - I'm not sure I like taking Hammond out after every foul he commits. I think that leads to timid play and looking over the shoulder whenever he makes a mistake. - McVeigh has a chance to be one of the better bench players we've had in a while. It's been said a thousand times already, but he's going to be a helluva player as he gets more experience.
  5. Shields is hitting at 37% from 3. That's just fine and it opens it up for him to get into the lane. If he can maintain that level, it will be great for him and NU. I should have included Shields with White. That said, it didn't matter who shot for them you knew it was going in. We DON'T have that. I feel pretty close to that way when White shoots. I feel that way with Shields when he's driving. We just need more of it.

  7. I think that award will probably go to Maryland, but they might be next in line.
  8. Yeah, except for the lack of a semicolon after the word "result." I've always sucked with semicolon usage; never been good with the colon, either.
  9. Don't say you're suprised by this result, disappointed, sure, but not suprised. Nova's an excellent, experienced team. - The starting guards had terrible games. Watson is the best point guard on this team right now, how long until he moves into the starting lineup? I'd do it on Thursday. He's got some work to do defensively, but all around he's the best of the three. - Tai may be a good defender, but he can't shoot, and he turned the ball over a ton tonight. I'm not sure I'd have him in my top 8 right now. - Benny had a bad game as well. - This was a great education for the new kids. I loved how they responded early, but they have to learn how to keep that attention and energy throughout. - White, I think he's the real deal. - Shavon didn't play poorly, just not enough around him. - We're not going to see them have any success until they figure out how to take care of the ball and create some turnovers. - Villanova had 33 points off turnovers. One of the biggest factors in the game. - We got a glimpse early of how much hitting some outside shots opens things up. That will have to be a big factor for this team if they're going to have any success this year. - This team also needs to figure out how to get to the free throw line. If they're going to play as small as they are, that's going to be paramount. - I thought we'd see McVeigh earlier. I was a little suprised he didn't come off the bench earlier. - Still not seeing where Fuller will fit into this rotation. - Morrow is going to be an absolute stud. Thought for the most part he held his own tonight, even made some plays. Too bad he's going to be stuck at the 5 most of the year. If he could slide over to the 4, he'd be a nightmare. - Loved that they kept playing hard throughout. This will probably be one of the best teams they'll play all year. There's a ton they can take away from this one. I'm not that discouraged, other than the turnovers, with how this went, saw a lot of things that they can build off of. - I think this team is going to be very difficult to play down the stretch. Got some learning to do, but there are a lot of pieces that can play at this level, lots to be excited for. This post has been promoted to an article

  11. I hereby dub thee: Surrogate Chatter Starter-upper Guy.
  12. Can't add thoughts now, you guys go ahead, I'll jump in when I get a chance.
  13. I thought i read in the Lee B. article that he got some interest for hoops from some mid-major type schools. Seems like there may be some talent there.
  14. If Borchardt plays more than mop-up minutes, whose minutes does he take? Hammond? Jacobsen? someone else?
  15. This is an interesting way to look at it. I never thought of it this way. Though the JM era was a little before my time, the way it sounds, JM was a starter on a bad team. I never thought of competition level would be a factor, but it certainly is an interesting idea to think about. Jake was more than just a starter on a bad team. He was a starter as a true freshman in a good basketball league and held his own. While he was never the same athletically after his injury, he was still a starter for most of the rest of his career. Proven commodity vs. a walk-on who is currently at the end of the bench. This is where I'm at with it, too. I don't really care how bad the team was, he scored the fourth most points, second in assists and third in three point shooting by a freshman in school history up to that point. I don't think JT is at that level yet.
  16. White. I'll just say this...Nebraska played it's best game of the year last year when Pitchford got kicked out of the game. That one's not even close.
  17. According to Huskers.com, Trueblood is the same height and weight as Tai Webster. I guess Tai is 1 pound heavier. That's within the margin of error for my scale. It's probably the hair. Tai's got him in that category, easy.
  18. Interesting. Wish I could have stayed to see that.
  19. Alright, if anybody cares, I added my thoughts...it sounds like Trueblood did more in the 2nd half after I left. He only took one shot and missed it when I was there. Did the new walk-on play at all?
  20. I'll begin with the caveat that I had to leave at the first media timeout of the second half. - I'll start by saying that there was an awful lot to like about what we saw tonight. The other caveat to throw out was that Northern State wasn't very good. Maybe they'll hold up better when they get into their regular season, but they were just over matched tonight. Nebraska did what they were supposed to do vs. a team like that, which isn't something we haven't always been able to say in games like this. That's a good place to start. - After the exhibition last year, I was left with a sense of worry. There was just something missing. I hoped they'd get it figured out as the season went a long and they never did. Today, I felt the exact opposite. They looked a lot more like a TEAM. This team, barring injuries, will play after the Big Ten Tournament. I don't know where, but they'll get some postseason tournament experience somewhere. - The offensive flow was better than last year, quite a bit, but there's still a lot of room for improvement there. I'd still like to see them push more in transition. With the athletes we'll be able to put on the floor, we should be able to be good there. I think we'll need to be if we want to win games. By the end of the year, I think this team will be a lot of fun to watch. - The group of Shields, White, Webster, Parker, Morrow and Watson is a group that can win some games, maybe a lot of them. Who from McVeigh, Jacobsen, Evelyn, Hammond and Fuller will emerge to take the last two or three spots in the rotation? - Webster looked as assertive as I've seen him as a Husker. If that continues, every prediction for NU will come up short. - Senior Shavon looked a lot more like the Sophomore version rather than the Junior version. That's a welcome sight. - White was really good. Have some concerns on the defensive end when he faces Big Ten level competition. He looked good offensively, which was the knock on him, how would he do when the lights came on? After one game that doesn't count, he looked just fine. - Hammond needs to figure out how to defend without fouling. If he does that, he can contribute. - Still not seeing where Fuller its in. - Parker is a cult hero. - Didn't get to see much from McVeigh and Jacobsen while I was there, maybe they did more after I left, can't comment much here. - Morrow and Watson are going to be a blast to watch. After the exhibition, I feel better about this team than I did before it. I'm anxious to see how they look on Saturday. Hopefully the football team takes care of business so the crowd isn't more depressed than it needs to be. This post has been promoted to an article

  22. I'm content that Nick Fuller is a Husker. A team is made up of all types of personalities and roles. Not every player on the roster is going to be the 'go-to' guy on the squad. Fuller appears to enjoy being a part of the team in Lincoln, NE, and he's a great role player & practice performer from all accounts. Nothing wrong with that. On one hand, Miles had "the talk" with Benny and BP responded by contributing to our run to the NCAA tournament and becoming a valuable member of the rotation. On the other hand, if Fuller isn't going to play meaningful minutes ever we've locked up a schollie we could use on a JUCO big, another transfer, or something like that. Us playing zone this year will definitely help him to get on the floor and hide his slowness. Him actually shooting when he's out there certainly would help as well....after two years I can only speculate how good a guy with 8 3pt attempts is. There's still an open schollie. Why does Nick have to 'open' up his? He's a valuable member of the team, and he's clearly getting better as Nick was Lifter of the Year on the squad not long ago. It's too bad that he hasn't found a more defined role in which he could have contributed in a more meaningful way, but that's up to the coaches to put him in a position to contribute with his deficiency and all. Maybe NU should use that LAST schollie before we go with the notion that Nick's should be 'open' for some unknown *2nd* player. Just a thought... Stronger =/= better. He doesn't have to open it up for the team's sake, but I think it would make a lot of sense for him to open it up for his sake. If he likes it here and is content in his role, more power to him, but he if want s to play and have a meaningful role on the court, I think he'll regret not leaving. Who said stronger essentially equates to being better?! I simply stated that Nick proved his work ethic in the weight room. He was awarded the LotY, which was won by Andrew White III this year. Does that mean AW-III isn't better, either? Strange comment to lead with, 'stu. I'm sorry, how was I supposed to interpret "and he's clearly getting better as Nick was Lifter of the Year on the squad not long ago"? I don't mean to be antagonistic, really, I don't. I just don't see where there's value in it for him if playing is actually something he wants to do. I don't see where that's going to happen if he stays here.

  24. I really doubt you will see Strom walk on. He is too good and deserves to play with a scholarship at the D1 level. The difference is that he is a true post player and we have not been able to get the top big guys from Chicago or any where else to come here. We will have to wait and see how he develops, but I would hate to lose a good big man in our own backyard if he is good enough to play. Going out of state is not always the answer. That said, a 6'8" post player better be powerful and explosive if he is going to make it through the Big Ten. I think this kid is pretty good, but he appears to be a supplemental player at this point, not necessarily "the answer." You need supplemental players, too. He's going to be a strong kid on the blocks. Probably a pretty good rebounder and has some skill around the rim. Doesn't have to be an all conference player, just solid. I think that's a possibility with this kid.
  25. I love that we're getting studs out of Chicago, but if Strom's good enough to play at this level (and I'm not claiming that he is), who cares where he's from? They're recruiting a kid out of North Dakota, too. If they can play, they can play.
