The leadership on this team is too good for us to regress in my opinion. Petteway and Shavon simply won't let it happen. We are in good hands. Our record may be slightly different, but I would bet a large sum of money that we are just as good if not better than last year. Teams that have success and can't build off it typically lack leadership which leads to lack of discipline and focus.

Prospects visiting Nebraska in the very near future

Call me crazy, but I'd much rather take a 1 year shot on Moses Ayegba than to take on another 4 year project. Worse case scenario: Never sees the floor, gives us some size and athleticism on our scout team, leaves and opens up a scholarship in one year. With all due respect to Kyle Kurkowski, I'm guessing our rotational players would get prepared a little better by facing bodies like Ayegba. Best case scenario: Gives us a much needed 15 minutes a game of a defensive presence and rebounding down on the block. We need more offense and this guy isn't going to provide anything for us offensively. Miles seems to be good at defining and coaching to roles. Maybe Miles wouldn't even work a lot on offense with this kid. Just maybe he gets this kid to believe that his sole purpose on the team, perhaps on earth, is to go in there for a few minutes every game and bring brass knuckles to a pillow fight. I'm all about talented recruits who are going to come in here and set the world on fire. If we still aren't there though, this might be a viable option. Just saying.

Rice 6'9 freshman transferring. averaged 11 and 9
Busch Light replied to FredsSlacks's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Umm....yes please! I've see Rice play 2 or 3 times this year and he definitely stuck out. He's #1 on my list in the transfers mentioned so far. -

I typically don't comment on Creighton topics, but Grant Gibbs is just awful. Dirty plays non-stop. I love it when Creighton fans call into the local radio programs and say, "everyone hates to play against him, but everyone wants a player like Grant Gibbs on their team". Umm...no. I like a player with passion and effort, but I'll pass on a dirty player who doesn't play the game the right way. The guy committed to Gonzaga in the summer of 2007....it's 2014. He's a grown man out there taking shots at 18-21 year old boys. Sorry for the rant, but my eyes just roll anytime I see him play or his name mentioned.

That got me too, Scotty. I missed the first half DVR. Luckily, I got to watch the first half. Of course giving what happened, that might be unlucky.

I'm less concerned about getting them into foul trouble as I am about us staying out of foul trouble. I love Petteway to death, but he has to stop the unnecessary fouls tomorrow. I don't know what the magic number is, but this is a game where we are probably going to have to score 65+ points to win and we need Petteway to be out there attacking on both ends of the floor. I think you game plan for Kaminsky and Dekker, but they are a balanced team. I think it comes down to just making sure we are playing good team defense and closing out on shooters.

If it came down to Dickerson OR Smith, I'd take Dickerson because he's probably the missing piece next year. We need a guard who can create and provide a scoring punch next year. Dickerson fills that need immediately. However, I like Smith an awful lot. I'm not just saying that because I'm a big NU recruit homer, either. When I look at this kid, I see a highly intelligent individual who is very disciplined. I see someone who is unselfish, willing to make sacrifices, and understands the importance of a good education, humble with a team-first attitude. I see a person who has both played with and against good competition. Finally, I see a kid who has positive mentoring and good leadership around him. I ask you, if you could build a prototypical college point guard, wouldn't you want all of those intangibles and character traits? There are plenty of people who can probably break down film better than I can, but I know a little bit. He's not an elite level athlete, there are plenty of high-major PGs who are better athletes. He's a good enough athlete though, he would look like he belongs at this level. I like his vision, especially in traffic. He has the ability to attack. You can tell he's been coached to do the little things, which would be expected considering who's coaching him. Defensively....there would likely be a learning curve as well but it seems the effort and want to are there, that's 75% of the battle. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm all in on the kid. I think he could come in next year and produce at a much higher level than Tai did his freshman year, if asked to. I also think Tai will make a fairly big jump next year, too. I think this Smith could prove to be a solid get.
