The students should start drinking now. (No driving, tho. And know when to say when.) Not a student, but I'll say when tomorrow. WHEN!

football team hires 61 year old that went 5-7 last year.

I know it was. I also know after seeing numerous football facilities over the years, we are not an even close to an F-150...Maserati or Mercedes perhaps, but not a pickup. What's with that, trickey mention about a Ford... are you responding to someone else? As I noted earlier, I think the analogy denoted above is apropos. Yes, somebody else, whose name shall be Norm...who earlier stated: "We have a Ferrari? Didn't realize they made a Ferrari that looked like an F-150 pickup." Then, respond to him about it. I had my own opinions, which may or may not match anyone else's... Sorry, as I was replying to your response to Norm when you did not "quote" him when he responded to my analogy. I tried to treat this space as a forum and responded. Sorry for the confusion and I will work to avoid this type of misunderstanding with you in the future. Yet, I ask how did we get from agreeing on an analogy...to being upset about how I post? Be cool, I enjoy most of your posts...except for this one. OK? -
Ouch!...serious injury...yet totally fixable with a lot of work. Best wishes to AA.

Better, Norm. But please recall what a wise man once said...earlier today: "It's one thing to take a program from the bottom to the top of a mid-major conference; it's another thing entirely to climb from the bottom to the top of a "major" conference. If a program bottoms out, it takes a lot of force to overcome the inertia. Programs at the bottom tend to get stuck there." So true, so I ask you: Who are the two coaches in NCAA D1 football that have done the most difficult turnarounds with morbid programs? You are familiar with Bill Snyder and K State so I know you got that right. Yet, there was one school even more inept than K State that holds the record for the longest streak of losing seasons by an NCAA school...you probably have a good idea by now...it is Oregon State, 1971-1998. 28 seasons of incompetence and weak facilities. Who came into that incompetence and lack of facilities and lead them to many winning season and bowl games? I am sure you can guess by now. Here is to "A LOT OF FORCE" -

I agree with you, Silver. I pretty quickly have gone from WTF? to "oh, well, this is the guy. I guess." Instead of this being Tim Miles, though, for me personally, I'm hoping he's not so much Tim Miles as Terran Petteway. You remember my reaction to signing Petteway? Sight-unseen. Just looked at his numbers from freshman year at Tech. And I'm wondering why bother? Can't we do better? I'd say my reaction to Terran Petteway's signing, after just looking at his numbers, was more comparable to my reaction to this football hire than was the Miles hire. And, so, I'll hope for similar results. I had low expectations of Petteway coming in and look what he did. Wow. If we get half that kind of result in year one of Riley, I'll be thrilled. Perhaps the big difference a coach has over the player is Petteway had to come in and work on his shot, gain weight/muscle and lose a lot of sweat. Riley steps out of the VW and into the seat of our Ferrari and he can immediately be better! -
OK, fine, they fired Pelini. Could they please not hire ...

Well it is time to see if Riley can step out of the VW and into the Ferrari and make it go fast! He has won 2 Grey Cups and was the Chargers coach for 3 years...so somebody must think he is smart. Kamdy is in a spot where he is in a better position to give an observation from a better view...I will be interested in his perspective. The facilities difference will be night/day. -

The hiring is done... Mike Riley from Oregon State http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24865887/nebraska-hires-oregon-states-mike-riley -
Wow! Even the good is one heck of an ordeal! Stay strong!

Enjoy them and keep them undefeated until the evening of 2/18.

Whoever it turns out is our coach...I think he and Shawn knew it last week...so the only others involved should be the lawyers. I plan on seeing our new coach at halftime Sunday...with an announcement Saturday or Sunday before the game. Given Shawn's multiple pronouncements...I think he is getting us ready to see large numbers given to a major head coach in that contract. I will be OK with that so long as he turns out to be worth it! -
Vegas had the jays as 1 1/2 point dogs...so while I wish they would have won...no surprise.

This works great for you Lincolnites...you are covered all the way home. Those of us from Omaha (me) and further out (lots of you) have appreciated a full hour pregame show...but we get virtually nothing postgame...by the time you get to the car, usually the stats have been read...and heaven forbid they repeat them for the 15,000 potential new listeners they could be picking up...but it seems they are in a hurry to get somewhere. If TM came and talked to them immediately after the game, I think they would run off earlier. They seem to be in a hurry to subject me to some goofy political late night/Sunday afternoon shows. I am grateful there is an alternative I did not know about, as I will be more interested in Nebrasketball talk than my digital music collection after a game. Husker radio should wake up and extend their show...but this is the same rant I went on last year. Thanks 93.7...I think.

The thing I like the best about TM is this following analogy to the race car driver circuit...and I am not an auto racing fan... Miles is like a driver that has come up through the ranks, while winning at each level as he advances. Now, he is finally at the NASCAR level and he has been handed the keys to a souped up Ferrari at a school that has never won (yet they are in a great league and have facilities second to none). Since TM is a Midwest kid, I believe there is a great chance he would rather stay here and make history while close to his family...rather than chasing the blue-bloods (KU, UNC, DU, etc.) where he is the next in line. I am counting on TM being my coach until I die...or until he retires... and if he is as successful as I believe he will be...I should live so long!
