Game Day Essentials: Game #33 vs Georgetown
hhcmatt replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Either they will still have guys out or else it's the Nebraskan in Vegas effect -
Was surprised by his rebounding numbers. Would be curious how his shooting numbers would hold up if he had to double his attempts as he fires them up with Sam Hoiberg/Benny Parker like frequency.
-
Guy who isn't motivated by Izzo doesn't seem like he's going to be a self-starter for Fred Hoiberg. I think we offer him so that Wake Forest outbids us for him.

Logistically it might be easier to run potential assistants coach in and out of Vegas than Lincoln

20 minutes might be a bit much but considering Rollie was hobbled and the lack of production most games from Ulis have to wonder if he might have made just the 1-2 plays we needed to help us get over the hump in these close games. I think with the ability to basically pay for a scholarship that we're getting quality rotation guys for walk-ons and the continuity of running in Hoiberg's system for multiple years can help to overcome lack of explosiveness or speed. When Cale was jumping those passes vs ASU it was anticipation as much as anything else. Considering ASU got into the post season at 13-19, pretty safe to say that Cale playing 30 minutes a game wouldn't have kept us out. -
Georgetown Info Head Coach: Ed Cooley (2nd year) Location: Washington, DC Conference: Big East Nickname: Hoyas Mascot: Jack the Bulldog Line: Nebraska by 7.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 6+ KenPom rank: 86 Nota bene: This is the first ever matchup between Nebraska and Georgetown Kenya Hunter came on as an assistant from Georgetown under Tim Miles. He'd bring along former Hoyas Moses Abraham and Isaac Copeland Forward Drew Fielder has entered the transfer portal and won't play. Centers Julius Halaifonua and Thomas Sorber are out with season ending injuries. Starting wing Micah Peavy, starting guard Jayden Epps, and freshman Kayvaun Mulready missed Monday's game with illness Nebraska will finish over .500 for the 3rd consecutive season Player to watch: Jordan Burks The Kentucky transfer is one of the few remaining available post players available for the Hoyas. Burks ripped off a double-double vs a lengthy Washington front court including 6 offensive rebounds Player to watch: Malik Mack With Peavy and Epps out, Harvard transfer Malik Mack went nuts vs Washington St, scoring 37 including a ridiculous 8-12 from 3 for the sub 35% 3pt shooter. Jayden Epps is GT's other double digit scorer though a sieve on defense. Louisville transfer wing Curtis Williams is more effective inside the arc than out. Ditto for freshman Caleb Williams. Freshman forward Drew McKenna hasn't played much this season but is effective on the boards. Anyone else are end of the bench guys that will chip in minutes if needed. UNL Game Notes Roster/infirmary report 24 Guard Rollie Worster 6-5 210 lbs Senior - Out Foot Possible starters for Nebraska 3 Guard Brice Williams 6-7 214 lbs Senior 4 Forward Juwan Gary 6-6 226 lbs Senior 23 Forward Andrew Morgan 6-10 242 lbs Senior 1 Guard Sam Hoiberg 6-0 185 lbs Junior 9 Forward Berke Büyüktuncel 6-10 244 lbs Bench 2 Guard Ahron Ulis 6-3 190 lbs Senior 0 Guard Connor Essegian 6-4 190 lbs Junior 34 Center Braxton Meah 7-1 264 lbs Senior 31 Guard Cale Jacobsen 6-4 195 lbs Sophomore 12 Guard Gavin Griffiths 6-7 193 lbs Sophomore 5 Forward Braden Frager 6-7 220 lbs Freshman 8 Guard Jeffrey Grace III 6-3 200 lbs Junior 20 Forward Justin Bolis 6-8 225 lbs Sophomore 25 Guard Nick Janowski 6-4 208 lbs Freshman 35 Forward Henry Burt 6-7 222 lbs Sophomore Out for year 51 Forward Rienk Mast 6-10 260 lbs Senior The Skinny: Like Nebraska football, former basketball heavyweight Georgetown has fallen on hard time, completely bottoming out during the Patrick Ewing era. The Hoyas hired long time Providence coach Ed Cooley and after a rough first year Cooley has the Hoyas back in a post-season fueled by defense. It's questionable how much defense Georgetown has to offer given how much interior defenders this team has lost. Nebraska has a chance to dig into the interior at the rim and on the boards. Offensively , the Hoyas really don't have anyone who can consistently get to the FT line so they rely on offensive rebounds and needing to score inside. Ultimately this is team that Nebraska is geared to beat. One thing worth mentioning is that Georgetown has won close games, Nebraska has not. If it comes down to the wire, Nebraska could find their season at an end. Prediction: Nebraska 75 - Georgetown 67

Peavy and Epps are the two main cogs who didn't play last night. They're in Vegas, Peavy was sitting on the bench in a mask last night. Peavy, a forward, is essentially their best player and I think he was sitting out there so they technically had enough scholarship players. Epps is a starting guard, also quite good. Mulready was also out but he's a freshman who plays sporadic minutes -
Counterpoint: Name me a better basketball coach at getting the most out of Icelanders than Fred Hoiberg?

Vermont has a solid program, weed is legal in the state. -

With Sebastian Mack it's that Donovan Dent just committed there. With Mara I'd guess with Tyler Bilodeau and Eric Dailey coming back he would and should be concerned about another season of limited minutes. While it seems that UCLA has unlimited NIL they don't have unlimited minutes.

You forgot Rhymes. Assuming the above and Gavin is gone, that leaves 5 open scholarships

If you're from Fort Wayne and you're going to Butler a big part of your decision is that you value staying close to home.

The funny thing for a Texas A&M is when you find out that Trev didn't even hire Fred Hoiberg. The funny thing is that if you are Trev Alberts and your best idea was to hire Fred Hoiberg, your lack of ownership of his contract makes it unaffordable.

Cale seems to understand what he needs to do on defense and found a role on offense. I did not see that from 4 star scholarship player Gavin Griffiths this season. Appreciate him being on this team and stepping up last night.
