uneblinstu's postgame chatter : vol 17; ed 7 - North Florida

We have yet to give up a 10+ run per the Ken Pom run graphic We poured on 4 of those on North Florida in this game -
How real is us getting to the FT line and how real is the rebounding? The Creighton game was very promising for the FT line but let's start playing teams that play more than 0 to 1 post players and see what happens. The defensive effort against North Florida was encouraging to see us put forth effort against a lesser opponent.
-
Not to toot my own horn but I've been on a Connor Essegian like streak since the Creighton game

I don't think this is as controversial as you think. Connor might not have the same crazy range but he's got the savvy Keisei didn't really have in drawing contact and shot selection.
-
Not really broken up about program attrition in a program that is constantly defeating itself.

Have to beat someone better than UTRGV
-
I am mostly joking as I don't expect UTRGV to end above a q3 win

Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)

We actually have an open scholarship so it's not like we'd have to lose someone to have retained Lawrence. Very possible that JL is our 5th starter instead of Berke or Connor given his knowledge of our system plus his shooting ability. If it comes down to who starts at PG it's Rollie because JL is a combo guard who can play point. -

Notes from UNL Nebraska has now won 17 straight at home dating back to last season. Nebraska’s 103 points is the most since scoring 110 against Doane on Dec. 17, 2021. The last time NU scored 100 points against a Division One opponent was 100 in a four overtime loss to NC State on Dec. 1, 2021. Nebraska has had season highs in points in each of the last two games. Nebraska shot a season-high 58.0 percent and a season-best 45.8 percent from 3-point range in the win. It is the first time NU shot at least 50 percent this season. Connor Essegian led Nebraska with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range. He is the first Husker in the Big Ten era to hit at least six 3-pointers in consecutive games, as well as the first in at least 20 seasons. Essegian is the first Husker with multiple games with at least six 3-pointers in a season since Kobe Webster in 2020-21. Essegian’s 22-point effort was his second straight 20-point night and fourth of his career. It is the first time in his three seasons he had consecutive 20-point games. Brice Williams reached double figures for the 11th-straight game dating back to last season, as he finished with 17 points and a season-high six assists. North Florida’s 43 3-point attempts is a school record against Nebraska, breaking the mark of 42 set by Creighton on Nov. 22. Nebraska had a 15-0 run from 18:15-14:42 in the first half, the sixth double-digit run this season for NU. The Huskers have had at least one double-figure run in each of the last five games. As a team, Nebraska finished with 22 assists and a season-low six assists, In the last two games, NU is averaging 23.0 assists per game. Nebraska had 53 points at halftime, making it back-to-back games for NU with at least 50 points at half. Nebraska finished with five double-digit scorers in the win, matching the most this season. Nebraska is now 1-0 all-time against North Florida and 8-0 against Atlantic Sun teams. The Ospreys came into today’s game averaging 86.7 points for the game on 46% shooting and were limited to a season-low 72 points on 38.5% from the field. Nebraska finished with a season high 12 steals, the fifth time in six games with double-digit steals. Sam Hoiberg matched his career high in steals with four, the last time he accomplished this feat was against Florida A&M on November 9, 2023. Nebraska’s bench out-scored UNF, 37-15, as the Huskers got double-figure efforts from Ahron Ulis (10 points, three assists) and Andrew Morgan, who had season highs in points (13) and rebounds (nine). -

Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1) vs North Florida Ospreys (5-2) Date: Sunday Dec 1, 2024 Time: 3:00 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN North Florida Info Head Coach: Matthew Driscoll (15th year) Location: Jacksonville, Florida Conference: Atlantic Sun Nickname: Ospreys Mascots: Ozzie Osprey Rotation Depth: 9 Last time out: Defeated SIUE Opening Line: Nebraska by 16.5 Nota bene: This is the first meeting between North Florida an Nebraska. Nebraska is 7-0 all-time vs ASUN opponents North Florida is a relatively new university, having been formed in 1965. Their basketball program started in 1992 and current coach Matthew Discoll is their 4th head coach in school history An osprey is a large fish-eating bird of prey. Because North Florida is known for shooting 3s under Driscoll, North Florida is often referred to as the "Birds of Trey" Senior Forward Nate Lliteras is from Seward, Nebraska. His brother Noah Lliteras was a basketball manager for Nebraska under both Tim Miles and Fred Hoiberg In the last 5 seasons UNF has finished in the top 15 in 3pt attempt percentage. Conversely, during that time they've ranked in the top 15 of 3pt attempt percentage allowed as they focus on running their opponents off the 3pt line Player to watch: Josh Harris At 6'8" 210 lbs, Harris is one of the largest players for the Ospreys. The freshman stretch 4 slots in at center for the Ospreys and leads the team in scoring and rebounding. Harris is one of the team's few inside threats though he'll occasionally pop a 3. The freshman post can be foul prone. Will look to hit a hook shot in the paint after a fake on some post feeds. Player to watch: Jaylen Smith The 5'11" pg isn't a very good 3pt shooter, hitting at 30.6% after 29.5% last year. Backup pg Ametri Moss rarely shoots 3s. The formula for the Ospreys is very simple: keep firing 3s. If you thought Creighton taking 42 3s was a bit much, North Florida already has games where they've taken 41 and 42. Last season they had a game with 50 3s taken. They'll take them in transition, behind screens, from NBA range, and even covered. Nebraska is used to doubling a post player but this team barely has one. We'll see if Nebraska will run anything different on defense today. We'll find out how playable someone like Braxton Meah is against this sort of team. It's possible that Cale Jacobsen might be a better fit at center today. It might be a Andrew Morgan day. Defensively, the Ospreys will try and run you off the 3pt line but offer little resistance inside. If he can stay on the court, Braxton Meah might take a run at his game dunk record of 8. As long as Nebraska as the transition covered, there will be offensive rebounds to be had. North Florida will mix in some 1-3-1 zone to keep you guessing but Nebraska should score a bunch in this game. I'm skeptical that Nebraska will put this team away as they've yet to really show up against lesser opponents. Given a Sunday afternoon crowd and the ability of UNF to go on runs, it might be a nerve-racking afternoon. Prediction: Nebraska 91 - North Florida 75 View full article

Sorry, completely forgot to post the notes from UNL Nebraska has now won 16 straight games at home dating back to last season. Nebraska’s 96 points was a season high (86 vs. FDU) and the most since scoring 100 points in a four OT loss at NC State on Dec. 1, 2001. It was NU’s highest total in regulation since scoring 110 against Doane on Dec. 17, 2020. Connor Essegian finished with a career-high 29 points, bettering his previous career best of 24 against Michigan on Feb. 26, 2023, when he was at Wisconsin. It marked his third career 20-point game and first as a Husker. Essegian’s 29 points were the most by a Husker this season. Essegian set career bests in both 3-pointers (six) and assists (five). His six 3-pointers was the most by a Husker since Rienk Mast had six against Ohio State on Jan. 23, 2024. Essegian’s five assists were a career high, as his previous best was three on two previous occasions, most recently on Dec. 6, 2022 Essegian’s 29 points is the most by a Husker off the bench since at least 2004. It is the ninth time under Hoiberg that a Husker reserve scored at least 20 points. It was the fifth time this season that a Husker reserve reached double figures. Nebraska finished with a season-high 13 3-pointers, including 10 in the first half. NU’s previous season high was seven. Nebraska posted its fifth double-digit run of the season, as Brice Williams had 10 of his 21 in the spurt. Nebraska’s 24 assists was a season high and most since dishing out 25 assists in the win over Doane in 2020. The last time Nebraska recorded 20 or more assists was against Indiana last season in the Big Ten Tournament. NU posted a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio with 24 assists and 12 turnovers. Nebraska finished with 10 steals, the fourth time in six games with double-digit steals. Brice Williams reached double figures for the 10th straight game dating back to last season with his 21-point effort. It is the longest stretch of his career. Williams has three 20-point games this season and six in NU’s last nine games dating back to last season. The 54 first-half points is the most since scoring 54 against Doane on Dec. 17 2020, most vs. D-1 team since scoring 55 in the first half against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 6, 2018. It was the 10th time under Fred Hoiberg where Nebraska scored at least 50 first-half points. Braxton Meah (12 points on 6-of-6 shooting) and Sam Hoiberg (nine points) also finished with season highs in points Nebraska got 51 points from its bench in the win. -
