All games Nebraska has played vs Hawai'i have been in Honolulu including an 84-83 season ending loss in the NIT Hawai'i coach Eran Ganot was an assistant under Randy Bennett at St. Mary's from 2010-2015 and runs many of the same defensive principles as Bennett Fred Hoiberg is 4-0 as a coach in Hawai'i, 2-1 as a player. 6'10" Hawai'i sophomore Forward Akira Jacobs was Keisei Tominaga's teammate on the 2024 Japanese Olympic Team This marks the Huskers’ seventh trip to the islands for a tournament and the first since the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Fred Hoiberg led Iowa St to the championship of the 2013 Diamond Head Classic. There is an infamous report that Iowa St made the team sleep in a ballroom before their flight home to save money. Nebraska might be down Berke and Ulis tonight. Hawai'i is a tough team that runs a Randy Bennett like defense. Thus they'll man up and run you off the 3pt line, forcing you to beat their post players one on one or else take mid-range shots. Nebraska can work in this environment and Hawai'i gives up a lot of points at the FT line. Offensively, the Rainbow Warriors are looking to bring everything into the paint. By default Nebraska is set up to stop this and it's really about how well they can guard without fouling as Hawai'i scores a ton of points at the FT line. Otherwise, it will be about preventing second chance points as Hawai'i's posts excel on the glass at both ends. It would be surprising to see Nebraska take Hawai'i out of this one quickly. Nebraska is the better team but if they get into the wrong side of a ref show in Hawaii they sure could drop this one. Prediction: Nebraska 76 - Hawai'i 68

  3. I find that unless I'm listening to huskers.com on a laptop it doesn't work
  4. Yes, that's correct. That's why Miles asked for Hawaii when we played here in 2014. The only problem was that we were not a good team.
  5. They took 17. I expected them to make 7 per the contest. They ended up with 6. I never get these correct.
  6. Congrats on being alive the last time we beat Hawai'i back in 1976. I wasn't

  8. Notes from UNL *-Nebraska picks up its first-ever win over Murray State, as NU was 0-2 against the Racers before today. *-Nebraska held Murray State to a season-low 49 points, as its previous low was 63 against Evansville. Murray State was averaging 78.8 points per game. *-Nebraska held Murray State to 30.9 percent shooting, the sixth opponent held under 40 percent this season. *-Andrew Morgan recorded his first double-double of the season and fifth of his career with 12 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. It was the first double-double for a Husker this season. Morgan has been in double figures in his last four games. *-Connor Essegian (15) and Andrew Morgan (12) both finished in double figures, as Nebraska has gotten 11 double-figure efforts from its bench this season. Nebraska’s bench out-scored Murray State, 29-11 *-Essegian hit five 3-pointers in the win, the third time this season he has hit five or more 3-pointers. *-Nebraska’s 16-0 run in the first half was its largest run the season and ninth double-figure run of 2024-25 *-Murray State’s 14 first-half points were the second-lowest total allowed by Nebraska under Fred Hoiberg (11 vs. South Carolina State last season). *-Brice Williams was held to nine points, snapping a streak of 13 double-figure games. *-Nebraska finished +14 on the boards and has only been out-rebounded once in 10 games this season.
  9. Some of that is the defense that Murray St runs. Looks like Hawaii will be our next opponent and you'll they also have a row type of defense that depresses assist numbers
  10. Morgan's post up moves really distract from how bad he is on the defensive end
  11. That would equal the number of deuces that Murray St dropped in the first half
  12. Ulis hurt his ankle during practice. No idea about his availability going forward.
  13. Aaron Ulis out for this game
  14. Don't forget Nebraska girlfriend
  15. I forgot to erase that from last time. I'd expect him to be fully healthy

Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-2) vs Murray State Racers (6-4) ** 2024 Diamond Head Classic ** Date: Sunday Dec. 22nd, 2024 Time: 8:00 pm CST Arena: SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu, Hawaii Broadcast: ESPN Murray State Info Head Coach: Steve Prohm (3rd year/7th overall) Location: Murray, Kentucky Conference: Missouri Valley Conference Nickname: Racers Mascot: Racer One (Live Horse), Dunker (Costume) Line: Nebraska by 9.5 Rotation Depth: 8 Last time out: Lost to Indiana St Nota bene: Nebraska is 0-2 all-time vs Murray St. Nebraska lost in the 1990 San Juan Shootout Championship game 81-79. They also dropped a home game 79-71 on Dec 30, 2000 during Barry Collier's first season This is Steve Prohm's second stint at Murray St. as he was the coach for the Racers from 2006-2011. From 2011-15 he was the coach at Iowa St, taking over after Fred Hoiberg left for the Bulls. Thus this season Hoiberg will coach against the coach that preceded him (Greg McDermott) and proceeded him at Iowa St. Murray St is currently ranked #9 in 3 point attempt % allowed and #1 in Assist per FGM %. This is the analytical way of saying their running teams of the 3pt line. This is a complete flip of defensively philosophy/numbers from Prohm's first 2 seasons back at Murray St. Murray St. ranks 346th in KenPom's bench minutes stat as four of their starters average over 27 minutes per game This marks the Huskers’ seventh trip to the islands for a tournament and the first since the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Fred Hoiberg led Iowa St to the championship of the 2013 Diamond Head Classic. This first game against Murray St is absolutely critical considering that a loss hurts your tourney resume on a couple of different levels as losing likely lines you up with lesser opponents. The Racers are one of the best at taking away the 3pt shot so look for Nebraska to be content with spending the entire day trying to drive into the paint. Between drawing fouls and scoring easily over the undersized Murray St post players, it would be surprising to see Nebraska take over 20 3pt attempts today. On the defensive end it's all about being able to guard without fouling as this will turn the Racers into a desperate 3pt shooting team. While they're a very good 3pt shooting team, it's not their focal point. Expect Nebraska to control this game and hopefully to win without a struggle Prediction: Nebraska 82 - Murray St 71 View full article
