You're selling us short. They appear to be similar to us in a lot of ways and we've proven several times this year we are capable of beating ourselves. Also

Does anyone remember a less hyped Nebraska-Creighton game? I was trying to think of what I had going on this Saturday because I wanted to hang Christmas lights and then a couple of days later I was like 'oh yeah, Creighton'. Is it because we finally won? Because we're not very good this year? Because of the Miles can't beat McDermott deal? Is this just me? We are the faster team in terms of overall pace for the first time since 2015 (the year after McBuckets graduated.) Creighton's offense still plays 'fast' but they've turned it down a notch over the last two years. The Jays are shorthanded - Projected starting center Jacob Epperson suffered a horrific broken right leg and is out for the year - Probable starting senior PG Davion Mintz has been out the entire year with a high ankle sprain. His timeline for return has been 2-6 weeks and that was 4 weeks ago so he could finally suit up - Backup center Kelvin Jones suffered a leg injury Tuesday vs Oral Roberts and his status for Saturday is unknown -SEMO Transfer Denzel Mahoney is eligible for the 2nd half of the season. Memphis transfer Antwann Jones is eligible next year. - The Jays keep whiffing on their last scholarship a-la-Miles and thus senior walk-on Jordan Scurry has scholarship #13. - Freshman SG Jalen Windham hasn't really played anything besides garbage minutes. They are getting minutes from freshman walk-on Jett Canfield If you're counting at home, that's 5 scholarships potentially not available and 2 on guys not playing. The Jays potentially are rolling out 6 scholarship players + a walk-on.

Cross looked like the 'Freshman who went on a holiday tournament trip and it looks like it messed him up a bit' last night. Georgia Tech is a defensive team with elite shotblocking and a lot of length; the poor shooting from us is to be expected. Our only two players to shoot over 50% were upperclassmen. I hope that after time against high level Div-1 competition that Green and Mack will adjust, as well as the younger players. Burke, I suspect, will be an inefficient high volume scorer for us. -

When we have to send a guy to the line after a flopping tech, it should be Curtis if he's on the court. Kavas is shooting 10-14 but I think he's missed any of those freebies he's taken. -

*-Haanif Cheatham posted his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. His previous career high in rebounds was nine when he was at Marquette. Cheatham reached double figures for the fourth straight game with 14 points *-Thorir Thorbjarnarson finished with a career-high 11 points, marking the first time he finished in double figures, and a season-best seven rebounds. He is the eighth Husker to have a double-figure scoring effort this season. -

Nebraska (4-3) vs. Georgia Tech (3-2) Game Thread
hhcmatt replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Two things about that 1. We tend to ping pong. We'll probably play better because we played poorly this game. 2. We struggle against good defenses that won't give us easy buckets. That's not what the Jays do -
Any corner shot Nebraska gets against this 1-3-1 they won't hesitate to take Georgia Tech driving into the lane at will Kevin Cross in early Nebraska sloppy with the ball nifty move by Cheatham to put Nebraska up 11-9 x2 Nebraska looking gassed at the 10 minute mark 8-0 run from GT as Nebraska keeps turning the ball over Yvan with a nfty post move extra passing on the last two plays result in 2 baskets at a 20-19 lead Kavas called for a foul on a baill he wouldn't have gotten to. Having a rough half Thor just knows where to be and sets up for an easy layup. He throws a terrible pass on the next possession and then manages to draw an offensive foul on Devoe Nebraska has drawn 2 offensive fouls on Davoe in two minutes After two turnovers and a blowby for an easy basket a disgusted HCFH calls timout with 1:30 to go Burke had a basket completely erased and GT ends the half on a 10-2 run GT comes out hitting a 3 and Nebraska answers Tech gets an easy bucket off a nice inbounds play Mack gets nice penetration and Yvan blows the bunny. Game starting to slip away as Nebraska can't buy a bucket and is down 43-32 Good post defense by Green It's the part of the game where my children yell and work calls and everything is muddled which feels how this game is going, down 50-40 Nebraska getting to the FT line but thus far is 8-16 which is frustrating when you're down 9 with 7:29 to go Green frustrated by 3s not going down gets the charge trying to drive in Mack hits a tough 3 to pull the team within 11 GT defending the rim well in transistion Can't make layups or FTs.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-3) at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-2) Date: Wednesday Dec 4th, 2019 Time: 6:15 p.m. Arena: McCamish Pavilion (8,600, 122nd largest in D-I) Broadcast: ESPNU (Streaming link) Georgia Tech Head Coach: Josh Pastner Location: Atlanta, Georgia Conference: ACC Nickname: Yellow Jackets Mascot: Buzz and Ramblin' Wreck KenPom rank: 72 Previous history: Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 1-0. Nebraska lost their only matchup back in 1983 to Bobby Cremins and a GT squad with John Salley and Mark Price Offensive Style: Give the ball to Michael Devoe Defensive Style: Continuous rotation of man, 1-3-1, and 2-3 zone as the situation dictates Rotation Size: 7-8 Line: Gerogia Tech by 8.5 Key Injuries: Starting point guard Jose Alverado is expected to miss this game with an ankle injury Hoiberg Presser Cheatham Presser Players to watch: Michael Devoe The sophomore SG has been dynamite to start the season, currently leading the ACC in scoring at 23.4 points per game. While he hasn't taken a ton of 3s, he's been hitting them at an unsustainable 65% clip. Expect Devoe to continuously slash to the hole and Nebraska having a hard time stopping him. Players to watch: James Banks The 6'10" 250 lb senior center is blocking everything, averaging a ridiculous 5 blocks per game and unlike a lot of big men his size he's not going to come off the court for breathers or foul trouble. Nebraska will have to pick and choose their moments to attack the rim. Roster points PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 0 Michael Devoe 6-5 193 So 11 Bubba Parham 5-10 160 Jr 12 Khalid Moore 6-7 203 So 5 Moses Wright 6-9 230 Jr 1 James Banks 6-10 250 Sr 25.1 With Alvardao out this game and USC transfer Jordan Usher not eligible until mid-semester, GT plays only 7-8 guys and as you can see, often times that will involve two players over 6'9" and 230#. In addition to Banks and Devoe we have VMI transfer Bubba Parham who was a dynamic 3pt shooter who hasn't yet gotten on track at GT Moses Wright is the rebounding complement to Banks. Highly efficient inside post scorer Khalid Moore is a slasher on offense 6'10" 225# Evan Cole is the backup 4/5 and an above average defender 6'5" freshman guard Asanti Price is a backup guard who can stroke from outside but hasn't made many of them yet (2-14) The Skinny: I'm on the fence about this being a good or poor matchup for Nebraska. On the good side, I think this is a team Nebraska can get to run with them and can generate points in transition or via turnover. Tech wants to drive inside and Nebraska has been effective at defending without fouling. Tech isn't a team that hunts for offensive rebounds. On the poor side, Tech has two post players with the potential to dominate this poor rebounding Nebraska squad. When Nebraska isn't in transition, which is the majority of the time, the Huskers and their poor half court offense will face off against a stingy rotating defensive team. If Nebraska isn't hitting 3s tonight, this could get UGLY. Beating Georgia Tech isn't a lost cause as an Arkansas team with no height to speak of came in and knocked off the Yellow Jackets at home on a night where both teams had trouble scoring. More than likely though we're looking at GT clamping down defensively at points to go on runs that the Huskers will hope they can counter. The Huskers have been a roller coaster this year and it's probably one of the low points tonight in their first true road game. Prediction: Georgia Tech 83- Nebraska 68 View full article
