North Dakota St. Info Head Coach: Dave Richman Location: Fargo, ND Conference: Summit Nickname: Bison Mascots: Thundar Last season: 25-8 Line: Nebraska by 9 Bench Player to watch: C Rocky Kreuser The shot blocking senior post player is the anchor of Dave Richman's defense, guarding the rim as the guards run the other teams off the 3pt line. Kreuser is a threat from 3 though you have to think North Dakota will make an effort to attack Nebraska in the paint. Player to watch: G Boden Skunburg The 6'5" freshman was the two time player of the year in North Dakota and brings an individual scoring punch that this team lacks. The Rest of the Roster SF Tyree Eady led the Bison with 11 points in game one. Lincoln native Sam Grisel as well as Jarius Cook will be leaned on to initiate the offense at times. Maleeck Harden-Hayes is the rebounder that compliments Kreuser's shot blocking. Deszmond McKinney is a true PG but not ready to run the team. Sr Tyler Witz and Fr Grant Nelson are secondary post depth. Witz is the only player who isn't a true 3pt threat. The Skinny: North Dakota St has won a lot in the Dave Richman era but between two high scoring guards graduating, another one transferring, and a prized Juco PG breaking a leg, the Bison find themselves untested in the guard area, tough for a team that runs as much pick and roll as North Dakota. Like Nebraska, most everyone will shoot from the outside. Unlike the Huskers they are methodical, running one of the slower offenses in Div. 1. Defensively, NDSU will fall back to prevent the break and try to goad the Huskers into mid-range shots. Nebraska should get on track penetrating again, it's just a matter of whether or not they'll work for a high percentage shot. NDSU ends up frustrating the Huskers by slowing this game down but ultimately look for Nebraska to have too much firepower and length. Prediction: Nebraska 73 - NDSU 63

Sir, this is the Fred Hoiberg era. The question is who will guard Wilhelm. -

Notes from UNL *-Dalano Banton’s 18 points marked the second straight game he broke a career high in points, as he had 14 against McNeese State on Wednesday. He also had five assists and has an 11-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio in NU’s first two games. *-Teddy Allen finished with a career high five steals, the second straight game he has eclipsed his career high. Allen has eight steals this season after recording just 13 in 35 games at West Virginia in 2017-18. *-Nebraska finished with nine turnovers, the second straight game committing 10 or fewer turnovers. *-Nebraska’s 41 3-point attempts was a single-game record, breaking the mark of 37 set against Kansas on Feb. 24, 2002. -

I noticed Mayen pass up a couple of looks as well. Might be one of these guys that is streaky and knows when he does or does not have it. Banton making those couple of 3s early in the 2nd half gave seemed to give him the green light to just keep shooting them. Maybe he proves it down the line but I don't think of him as a guy who should be shooting that many 3s. I thought the look for him to end the game was a good enough play because with a 6'9" guard you at the very least get the shot off...an attempt gives you a better chance to tie than a turnover or blocked shot. I would have liked to have seen Kobe or Teddy take over the same way at the end of the game like Sheffield did for Wichita St. I know that Webster can take and make tough shots and am pretty confident that Allen can as well. To me the problem wasn't the number of 3s....that is what we want to do and what Nevada will give you. It's that we let them dictate the type of 3s that we would take which weren't really in any sort of rhythm or without any attempt to penetrate into the lane. We are very fortunate that Trey McGowens was eligible this season. Lock down defender. He just needs to maintain more control on the offensive end so he can stay on the court. I guess the encouraging thing with this team is that when we got down a couple of times we did bounce back. Seems to be a team that possesses more resiliency than last year's squad. -

Nevada Info Head Coach: Steve Alford Location: Reno, NV Conference: MWC Nickname: Wolf Pack Mascots: Alphie, Wolfie Jr. and Luna Last season: 19-12 Line: Nebraska by 3.5 Player to watch: SG Desmond Cambridge The former Brown University star has a lot of ups, posting impressive block numbers for a 6'4" guard. Able to score from all 3 levels, he was held in check by foul trouble against North Dakota St. Player to watch: PG Grant Sherfield The Wichita St transfer is the starting PG for the Pack and led the team in points and shot attempts, needing 14 shots to net 14 points. His The Rest of the Roster G Kane Milling has gone from freshman rotation player to starter but hasn't shown a ton offensively. Oregon St transfer Warren Washington and KJ Hymes provide rim protection for Nevada and the Wolfpack. Former Nebraska recruit Zane Meeks is Nevada's biggest offensive threat from the post, willing and able to shoot from 3. Robby Robinson is an elite rebounder who mostly scores on putbacks. True freshman Tre Coleman had an impressive debut, going 3-3 from three and chipping in 13 point in his first college game. The Skinny: Nevada started the season with an impressive throttling of North Dakota St, hounding the Bison to 48 points with their length in the post and athleticism. This team will probably lean on defense this year so you're getting more of a New Mexico than an UCLA Steve Alford squad. We should see another fast paced game as both teams will try to push the ball to generate transition offense. The Wolf Pack rolls out a 3 guard offense and they'll do the heavy lifting in the scoring department which should kick the can down the road in terms of how good Nebraska's interior defense is. Defensively you'll see Nevada pack the lane and Nebraska should once again see a lot of wide open looks from 3. As long as Nebraska isn't ice cold and Nevada isn't destroying them on the offensive boards, look for you Cornhuskers to move to 2-0. Prediction: Nebraska 82 - Nevada 72

Notes from Nebraska *-Nebraska’s 102 points was the Huskers’ highest point total since scoring 106 against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 6, 2018. It is the 42nd time Nebraska has scored 100 points in a game (38-4 record) *-Nebraska put six players in double figures, the first time that has happened since Nov. 11, 2018 against Southeastern Louisiana. All six players who reached double figures were making their Husker debut today. *-Nebraska forced 27 turnovers, including 16 steals. Six players finished with multiple steals. Nebraska turned the 27 turnovers into 43 points. *-Lat Mayen’s 13 points was his career best, as his previous high was 12 when he played at TCU in 2018-19. -

No explanation at the moment for where Eduardo Andre was. Wonder if it was either Covid or he's been captured and we're negotiating a ransom payment. -

Those are your probable starters that they put out a few days ago. Could be Thorir as Hoiberg noted yesterday.
