It works as long as you know you're in on the joke

KenPom maintains a separate stat for combining FT makes with eFG% which he calls TS% (True Shooting percentage)

Generically speaking, we're trying to either get to the rim or take 3s and we're one of the best in Div 1 at accomplishing what everyone says they want to do. Against a pack type defense like Nevada, we took more 3s. Against a team like NDSU that is trying to limit your 3s, we got to the rim more. It's really this easy. Todd Lee at South Dakota is trying to take away the 3. Expect us to get into the lane again vs the Coyotes.

I wonder how much of this is built on the type/location of the shot vs calculated ability. We have a full season of Thor shooting 3s. Is Eduardo Andre shooting a wide open 3 a good or bad shot?

Nebraska's numbers from last year Thor seems pretty consistent in his shot selection Yvan seems to have improved since last year. After Cheatham and Kavas these statistics indicate we had guys generally hurling the ball at the rim which seemingly is backed up by the eye test and record of the team.

Numbers for Nebraska thus far: Most people are aware that Yvan is having shooting issues and some of that you could attribute to him taking low percentage shots. What stands out to me is McGowens being noted for taking a lot of bad shots. Is that something that people have been picking up by watching him play? If you just looked at shooting % you'd assume that McGowens is taking good shots and Thorir is taking poor shots. It would appear that both McGowens and Yvan are tagged as 40% of their possessions as being poor. I think turnovers and assists might be factored in here but I don't know for sure.

The premise is that you take every shot attempt and convert it into a percentage and then you compile them. The math works like this. Shot Quality is calculated by multiplying the percent chance a shot has of going in, i.e. the probability that the basket is made and the type of shot, denoted by the no. of points that shot entails - either a 2-pointer or a 3-pointer. So, if I shoot a 3-pointer that has a 25% chance of going in, Then, Shot Quality = 3 (type of shot) * .25 (% chance of going in) = 0.75 Or, I have a mid range shot (2 pointer) that has a 35% change of going in . Then: Shot Quality= 2 (type of shot) * .35 (% chance of going in) = 0.70 The % chance of going in number isn't some static number. The secret sauce is how well they combine the various data and factors they're using to compute this per shot. No idea of the accuracy.

Notes from Huskers athletic dept Nebraska Postgame Notes *-Nebraska improves to 2-0 all-time against North Dakota State, as the other meeting came in 1933. *-Nebraska held North Dakota State to 29 percent shooting, the best defensive performance by the Huskers under Fred Hoiberg. It was the best defensive performance in 70 games dating back to the 2018-19 season opener against Southeastern Louisiana (26.8 percent). *-Teddy Allen’s 22 points marked his fourth career 20-point game and first at Nebraska. He had three at West Virginia during the 2017-18 season. *-Allen had five steals against North Dakota State, matching his season and career high. Allen, who came into the game 10th nationally in steals at 4.0 per game, has 13 in three games at Nebraska. He had 13 in 35 games at West Virginia during his freshman year. *-Trey McGowens’ 19-point effort was a season high. *-Dalano Banton threated with a triple double, finishing with 13 points and season bests in both assists (eight) and rebounds (nine). He has dished out at least five assists in each of NU’s three games and nearly a 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. *-Nebraska has committed 10 or fewer turnovers in each of the first three games this season. *-Nebraska had 11 steals, the third straight game the Huskers had at least 10 steals. In addition to Allen, Thorir Thorbjarnarson had three steals in the win.

Generally speaking I find the BTN to be relatively objective compared to the propaganda machine it could be. I can't say that I can speak for other conference's studios as I don't really watch them.
-
We haven't played a game yet where we've shot more 2s than 3s through a combination of us shooting a lot of 3s and getting fouled in the paint where we get FT attempts instead of a shot attempt

Future foe South Dakota with Brady Heiman got beat down by Jeriah Horne's Colorado squad. Brady is blocking shots but struggling everywhere else. South Dakota is probably more like McNeese St than NDSU
