Makes sense as he was simply buried on the depth chart with all the guys we brought in. Not much playing time behind Reink, Keita, Allick and Gary considering everyone but Keita could conceivably play the 4 or 5. He didn't develop into the guy we thought he would out of HS and he likely won't on the bench. Gives us a shot at taking a project, a freshman, or in the Grant Nelson lottery. Probably the best for us both.

He wouldn't agree to change his name to Red Cain so we had to move on
-
In theory we could play Gary, Mast, and Allick at the same time as needed given they all can shoot from outside.

Quote from HCFH "Ahron is a player we've gotten to know well having faced him five times over the last three seasons," Hoiberg said. "He brings a lot of valuable Big Ten experience to our program. Ahron possesses a very competitive defensive mindset, while offensively he is a talented ball handler and playmaker who is good in transition. In 2022 when Iowa won the Big Ten Tournament, he shared his team's Top Playmaker Award. Ahron has been to three NCAA Tournaments and comes from a great Marian Catholic high school program in Chicago. We're excited about the winning mentality he will bring to our team."

With the transfer portal it's possible to have 8 upperclassmen every year
-
I had Gary as graduating this year but you're right, he started in 2021 so he has that Covid year

I'd prefer that FH keep upping his win total but when you put together coaches who can work well in this area, our history of buying Creighton coaches, and our ability to outspend the Jays I wouldn't rule it out at all. This seems to be a thread about how a new uniform can change your attitude about a guy, no?
-
I'm not joking when I say that we have 8 guys on the roster older than Yvan Ouedraogo. The age and experience playing D-1 ball of this group is impressive.
-
If we do bomb this season and FH gets sacked, the very Iowa St-Creighton thing we could do is hire Greg McDermott as we can pay him much more than the Jays.
-
The posts about what fans thought of a guy leaving is what I'd consider to be a somewhat useful assessment. Posts about him transferring here don't seem like they'd be useful because it's 'our archrival sucks' content.

Rivals free boards are basically bathroom stall doors. This is more of what you're looking for https://forum.hawkeyenation.com/threads/ahron-ulis-josh-ogundele-in-portal.95767/

I think we can run Allick at either the 4 or the 5

Seems to me like a numbers game for Ulis. Between Tony Perkins and Dasonte Bowen Iowa should be able to cover the point with freshman Brock Harding coming in as well. Last year Ulis was penciled in as the starter. Next season he's likely looking at a reduced role probably heard that in his after-season talks. It's safe to say Ulis underperformed last year. If there is a jump to be had out of Ulis I'd say probably losing his starting job, sitting in the transfer portal for 40 days, and getting an invite because Nebraska has been striking out for a month is ample motivation for him to find it. Even if there is no jump, he's a good fit for what this team needs positionally.

They don't fact check like they used to. He's the first player to transfer to a B1G team in Fran's 13 years.

For those who don't know Ahron's brother Tyler was a former NBA player after playing his college ball at Kentucky.
