I personally wanted to see him start over Lat sooner rather than later. With Lat, his shot isn't falling. Wilhelm at least gets the ball popping on offense and plays hard all the time. His offense will come as he gets more comfortable. That drive across the lane against John's was pretty impressive to me

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 10 - vs Michigan

He pissed me off today just as much as he did during SD. Way too much dribble moves and drive and throw up a shot. Put up good numbers and kept us in it, but getting the offense going needs to happen. Your offense can't be Verge in the big ten. Edit: as point guard, it's his responsibility to run the offense. He has succeeded in doing so in a few games out of 10 this year. That can't be a recipe for success. Trey can't get back quick enough. If they keep the same starting lineup but just swap verge and Trey, I'll be in board. I think verge could be an outstanding 6th man to get buckets. But this can't work -
Which is why I never entertain if a coach should go or not. Not my decision. Waste of energy. I'll criticize him. Sure.

Bryce drives and gets fouled well? That's about it though.

Im holding to it. Don't really care about how one team is playing. Those are two they need to win and should win. -

I've never left a game early until today. Auburn gonna be ugly. K state and Kennesaw state will both be games they need to win based on who they have. That's my expectation. -

Ha. What a dumbass. Shots not falling and lack of ball movement difference tonight. Worst game I've ever been to live -

I look at this in a couple ways. -Jones has struggled mightily for them this year. Collins has arguably outplayed him. -with diabete out, they'll probably start John's, who is hitting 21% of his 3s. Pack the paint on Hunter with lat and force the kick out to John's. -houstan and McGowens will be the matchup of the game. McGowens is more of a downhill attacker and can get to the line and Houstan is the opposite. Very smooth game though. -verge vs Jones and Collins is another one to watch. If they get good verge tonight, I think the PG play is in our favor, which could tip the scales our way. I weirdly feel like they have a good chance this game. Especially with no diabete. -

Today wasn't all that surprising honestly. Couple notes. None good IU has two very good and experienced post players. Held TJD in check most on the night, but race Thompson was the difference maker. -Verge didn't stick to the gameplan, which burned possession after possession. He's going to be like this all year, so I'm just bracing myself. Good thing is he seemingly has a very short leash with the staff. They pull him after mistakes constantly. -bryce had a very rough outing. Hopefully getting back to home in Tuesday helps. -Lat needs a very short leash moving forward. He rebounds the ball ok for his position, but nothing I've seen from him so far has led me to think he should continue to start. -Wilhelm surprised me with holding his own. -No one could shoot. Happens. But sucked. The faster Trey comes back, the better. He is a calming factor and can help this team in multiple ways right now. Move onto Michigan on Tuesday and try to capitalize while they are struggling. They're 4-3 and up 8 on SDSU right now. -

He's redshirting behind two experienced guards who won't be here next year. Q has every chance to get the starting spot next year at the lead guard. Fred I don't think would invest a redshirt in him if he didn't want him in the program long term. Look at Elijah wood last year as an example -

One thing I'm interested to see is if there's any sort of punishment for Lat after this game. Suspension or loss of starting spot. -

By "cold" I mean not in the rhythm of the game. CJ was at least defending his man and boxing out. No guarantee either of those two do that. With the big ten and center issue, you'll probably see him more there. Tonight just wasn't the matchup for him. NC state plays undersized in the middle outside of Dowouna. You'll probably see more Wilhelm/Andre lineups in big ten play. They've experimented with it. If his hands don't get fixed and he continues to fumble passes, then he'll become non existent. -

Couple of problems with what you're saying Issue with playing Trevor lakes is you get hurt on the glass. Yes. Wilcher is a better rebounder than lakes from what I've seen. Plus, you trust your guy. If you insert Lakes, cold mind you, you're taking a massive risk With Bryce defending Seabron, that was about all they could do. Bryce had 4 fouls most of the OTs I believe, so you could say put CJ on him, but CJ was primarily guarding a guy who he was better suited to in their stretch big. Once again, subbing in Keon cold is taking a huge risk. And his shot has been cold all year, so defenses can not respect him which in turn clogs the lane for verge driving. Andres hands are honestly really bad. If I remember correctly, one of the smaller non conference games he dropped about 4 passes from guards and didn't get back in. Defensively, he's there I'd say and he's a big body. But when I notice his playing time dwindle, I go back to that game as an example. There's something we're not seeing and with how often Verge likes to dump it to Walker, I think it's his hands. Just my 2c. Also, NC State hardly subbed in any OT and you don't expect to play 4 OTs. Ever. You want it over in 1. You typically see teams play their best players no matter what in those periods. I don't put this on Fred. He played his best guys all night on the road and they couldn't come away with a W off a few missed calls and our best FT shooter missing one barely in one of the OTs. Just my 2c though -

Tons of positives tonight with a few negatives. -Lat is GOING THROUGH IT. Noticed it last game. Had some shots fall, but when things don't go his way, he gets emotional. Noticed it a few times this year and last year. I think it's a double edged sword to have that kind of fire. It's good and bad. We saw the bad tonight. Is what it is, move on. -Wilcher had a rough shooting game. He's been the most consistent shooter to date, he was bound for a bad shooting game. -keisei found his shot. Missed a bunny that could've been huge in one of the million OTs. But he found it. -Verge, Bryce, and Walker all had solid games I thought. If they play like this every game, they'll hang. ESPECIALLY after adding Trey. Have a huge opportunity coming up with IU and UM. Michigan hasn't looked great to start the year, so we have a chance there. Indiana will be extremely tough. If they find a way to control TJD, they may have a chance -

Thank you for the input. After watching, taking at least 1 PG this year seems necessary no? -

Was there yesterday and it was fun. -really liked seeing Keisei in ball handling situations with Walker in that p&r. If he has that ability to make pocket passes, that's an easy 2 points every trip down for Walker. Defense will smother him and commit to him, which leaves the roller open. Need to see it though -lat is going through it. I think once big ten play starts he'll get more comfortable, but man he's going through it. -as little as Keon does in the starting lineup, I agree with keeping CJ on the bench. It gives the bench some valuable points every game between him and Kobe. They both are working off the bench right now, don't break it. Keon just needs to hustle, play defense, and keep shooting open 3s. It'll come around -every game Bryce gets more and more comfortable and confident. The fast break euro step kick to the corner showed for example showed to me that he wants to get others involved. -verge is a hot and cold thing right now. Don't know what you're getting. Do you get the Tennessee state verge when you don't win that game without him, or do you get the verge from yesterday when he reverted back to old habits. That'll determine his playing time going forward. I do like this team personally with Trey inserted. They're getting comfortable with each other and it seems like figuring things out. NC state is going to be a big test on Wednesday. They have a guard in Seabron who leads their team in rebounds and points. Keon may get more ticks that just to body him up. -
I may get some flack for this, but this team needs a "ball connector". Or in other words a guy who keeps the offense moving. Last year Banton did that a bit but Thor was really good at that over the past two years. Trey was kind of filling that role there, but now I have no idea who will. I'd personally insert Wilhelm into the starting lineup to do that. Not because he's a better player than Lat (you can argue it, but I'll opt for the experienced guy) but he is looking to move the ball based on what I see. Walker acting at the high post is something else they need to incorporate a lot more. Got Bryce two easy buckets last night and Walker did well at that last year.

Next year's PG situation is what I'm monitoring closely. I have to imagine they take a transfer via portal. I need to watch some of Lloyd this year as the lead guard at Sierra canyon to make an assessment if I feel good about him there. Right now, I think he's a wing who can do a bit of ball handling and run an offense. Ie not a true lead guard. I'll have to watch a bit tho, because I may be wrong Thank you for bringing this up though. I've been banging the table for an improved PG situation next year for a while.

Guys I don't know anymore. I really don't. I do believe there's a good team in there. I do. -verge. He's a worse version of Teddy Allen in every way I could think. He can't score like Teddy and Teddy at least ran some offense. -Bryce was smothered all night and obviously uncomfortable. Thought he did some things ok but overall wasn't there - one thing I saw tonight that I haven't seen this year, Walker working that high post and passing out of it. They ran a ton of actions out of that last year and it worked. Really well honestly. -cj is a tough tough player. I would love to see more minutes moving forward with him. He isn't adept at handling the ball yet though.

Struggled a ton offensively, but found a way to win. Good sign. Verge is trying to force it, but I can tell he means well. There was a play where he checked in and Lat stepped out of bounds. Pushed Lats chin up to say "pick your head up". He just needs to stop going a million miles an hour. We are so lucky to have Bryce. Some of the shots he hit were absolutely absurd driving. One reason for the offensive struggles/ball movement in my eyes are a "ball connector". Ie a guy like Thor who keeps the offense moving. Trey I think is trying to fill that void right now. I think only 7 or 8 assists last night and between 3 guys. Not good. Need to see more of a Wilhelm and Andre frontcourt. I think they'll have to use it in big ten play, so get them used to playing together now Shooting will come around by the shooters. CJ and Keisei were both active in other ways last night, so I'd say they were overall positives despite shooting.
