uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 25 - @ Iowa
thrasher31 replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I watched the first half. Got ugly quick so I didn't bother with the second half. Let Iowa get out in transition and get comfortable with their shots and you're going to lose. Maryland on Friday night this week now -
His name isn't warrick announcer man
-
I've noticed him out a lot more lately than other coaches. Might be a sign. Or he's just handling the in state and Midwest

I enjoyed last night and let the winning endorphins soak through my body. Quick notes for what I saw -lat mayen is going to drive me certifiably insane. He dropped a few easy passes on noticably good cuts, and let battle, Minnesota's best player, get hot in the second half. Battle knew he couldn't guard him. I'm shocked he didn't go back at Lat late in the game -minnesota is a bad team as are we, but that shouldn't have only been a 12 point win. Countless missed opportunities at the FT line and layups. Gave me flashbacks to the 19-20 season. -andre does good and bad. He is what he is. -had a kid behind me who was annoying, so that was hard to tune out -trey was a dog all night. Forced a few layups that he should've kicked out, but overall was attacking and dishing. That's the Trey McGowens this team missed. -Cj Wilchers defense was surprisingly very very solid. I've always thought his defense was a bit shaky, but last night he was sliding and contesting on a consistent basis. Was very impressed with him and have been all year. Onto Iowa on Sunday.

I have watched and keyed in on Oleg a bit in warm ups to see how he moves, and he moves pretty well imo for a seven footer. He's not a back to the basket big as he shoots quite a few mid range jumpers. Idk what to expect, but TO ME he looks the part. Need to see in game action though. He looks noticably bigger than after the first of the year also imo. Having him as a 3rd/4th big behind two experienced guys isn't the worst thing in the world. We also only have 2 bigs this year, so having more options is a good thing

read into these what you will

The vibe around Lincoln is feeling this way. I'm waiting to see what Robin or bruntz say as the season goes on. They've kept true on the "18.5 mil is too much to buyout" but it's getting to a point of no return

I personally am not a Tuergon guy and can explain why. With the amount of talent that went through Maryland over the last few years, to not make the S16 in any year sans 1 is kinda bad. Now, he did win a game each year he was in the tourney besides 16-17, which would get a statue built for him here. But I look at Tuergon and I'm not a fan of the body of work at Maryland. Also, he'll have better options in my opinion if this job were to open up.

The option 1, 2, & 3 for me is Niko Medved. If he can convince David Roddy to join him here in Lincoln, that would be an obvious plus. Another option that I didn't realize is still in the mid majors is Dennis Gates. For some reason I thought he took a HM job last year, but guess not. But he's an obvious fantastic coach and would be a home run. There's some other names that would probably be good that I am unaware of. But Medved needs to be a guy Trev goes for HARD.

They're trying to get a medical redshirt on this year apparently. Idk if he'll get it.

https://redravenathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2021-22/bios/keita_blaise_x0eg?view=gamelog&pos=bc His stats on the year. Took me a minute to find them. Most of his games are over 30 minutes so that's kinda promising

I think kieta can spell Walker well. Oleg has size and he moves well in warm ups, I don't expect much from him though next year. Need the adults to play in the middle in Walker and kieta.

https://247sports.com/Article/Basketball-recruiting-top-100-point-guard-Trey-Green-Nebraska-Virginia-Tech-and-more-182296520/ Looks like he still mentioned us at least. Was trying to find ANYTHING recruiting wise for this year. Know we signed the class so a lot will happen in March timeframe, but this is the extent of it. Looks like we might still be sitting good with Parker Friedrichson, but after Matt A leaves (I'm assuming because that needs to happen) who knows what happens.

He has to be wondering "what in god's name was bill moos doing?"
-
Fair point honestly. If Fred wants to be stubborn with it, that's fine. That's what Trev will pitch though I imagine.
-
Day 33-40 needs to have some movement in some capacity. Assistant, HC, players, just something. Something needs to change
-
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but not 1 OV at all during the season. Granted, seasons are going on so that plays a factor I imagine. But still.

The thing is, while I agree with most of what you said, it's not plausible at this point. Trev has a football facility to build still. What will probably happen is a Frost-esq situation, where he reduces the buyout and forces out some assistants. Do I think it's right? No honestly. Only way we get out of Fred is if he decides to willingly walk away from 18.5 million. Or takes a reduced buyout. Last one might happen, but I go back to the football facility being the primary thing he needs to use money on at the moment. Only 2 months left. There's a few possibilities of what might happen. Trev has a decision to make regardless
