  1. Stevenson is a nice player. He could easily fit in the starting 5.
  2. You know I had to catch myself in the NDSU game. I almost yelled at the tv when Yvan didn't challenge a shot underneath. He basically stood there arms straight up & holding his ground. I then realized that's probably a good play on his part. When your in the restricted circle, advantage offense. He is not a shot blocker so that eliminates the &1 scenario plus the other guy was a good FT shooter so their was no advantage to fouling. Also, refs whether they like it or not will sometimes let the big muscle guys get fouled more than the little guys. It's probably because it's harder to notice the fouls due to their strength. {Years ago (rec game) right before half as the clock ran out I got a loose ball bouncing around and as I started to bring it up the other team basically hacked both of my forearms to stop me. I had to use my wrists and flick the ball up underhand. The ball crawled up and on to the rim, sat there briefly and then rolled off as the buzzer went off. They blew a whistle for the foul and I went to the line to get my free shots but the refs took the ball and ran off to get water. I was confused and the opposing team was laughing. When the refs came back they told me that I wasn't shooting and that ball flew up to the rim because I was hacked so hard. I am still pi$$ed about this if you haven't figured it out yet. Finally, Yvan's teammates still dish to him on a regular basis. So they still have some confidence in him which must be coming from what they see in practice as reported before.
  3. I also watched one of Wilhelm's games and I had to laugh at myself because I know this but most often can't stop myself. The perception I got from watching the highlights was a little different than watching a complete game and I know that seeing a guy live will also often result in a somewhat different take. My take after watching the game is that he still fits a 5-out offense. He can shoot well. I think he could be in the 37-38% range. He doesn't have the motor/stamina that I thought he had from the highlights but with college conditioning and subs he will be fine. My opinion of his touch did not change and uses both hands well. The fact that he can do that helps bolster my opinion that he has touch from the outside as well. He definitely needs to add muscle&size. That will help him. He reminds me a little of Brady Heiman now. He could use a year or two of development. He will be a good player.
  4. In the NDSU post game Hoiberg said that Yvan has been better at finishing in practice vs games so I am thinking some of it might be mental. He's probably thinking about it too much. I thought he was putting it up too hard in the first 2 games and for NDSU he put them up too soft. I think it's a valid point that the guards should only dish him the ball under the right circumstances.
  5. I thought the pick&pop 3 would be 3rd on the list above. Never mind I guess I was thinking about players without the ball. Tyrone Lue was a master of the off the dribble midrange. He would of broken that curve by himself. It's a lost art now.
  6. Interesting. Have to say, I am not a fan of that philosophy. Being lazy (rec ball) I hated running down the court only to have a teammate jack up a 3 with no rebounders/opportunities for 2nd chance points. That was my official gripe. My unofficial off the record true gripe was..I just ran all that way down the d*mn court for no reason. I hated that.

  8. The Good: We won. Banton approached triple double territory. When we are crisp in passing we look good. We had only 10 turnovers and we got a bunch of steals. The Bad: Disappointed that we shot poorly from 3pt range again. They can be 3's but they need to be in flow with the offense. I think they are taking some shots too early in the offense. We look good when we make that extra pass. The Ugly: Outrebounded by NDSU.
  9. Maybe they could use zone when Wilhelm is in? It's a good question. He'll need to get bigger/stronger.
  10. It will help to get more players into the offense that shoot a high% from 3pt land. Next year we add Keisei,McGowens and Lakes plus another big that can stretch the floor. That should help. Banton and Teddy will be more effective when the opponent is stretched. We couldn't hit anything yesterday from 3 land and they were able to protect the paint as a result.
  11. Disappointing. I wish when we got our lead we could of worked the clock a bit before throwing up a 3 especially when your not hitting. We let them get into the paint too easily.
  12. Good&bad&ugly The good...Not much good. I guess the good for me is I think Stevenson did alright and should get more minutes. The bad...our shooting was bad. At times our defense was bad. The ugly...this game.
  13. You may be right as NDSU plays decent team defense and takes care of the ball. I think McNeese St had better talent though so that's why I said what I said. I think NDSU will zone us so if we are on target I think we will do well. I am not sure what to make of Nevada. I thought they would score more inside.
  14. I believe a couple of days ago Coach said they would do a round of testing on Tuesday night. My guess is that he tested positive then. They probably did a followup test this morning to verify. Just a guess.
  15. Since we are a transition team we need turnovers or rebounds.
  16. I think Coach Hoiberg made a good comment about some of the trouble Yvan had. He needs to kick it out when he is surrounded and on some of his attacks to the hoop. That will help. Also he should jump forward a bit and create contact when he's in the arc. That might get him some FT's. I was hoping he'd be faster off the floor as he is leaner but I think he just picked up a slight gain there. Perhaps he should work on tipping the ball in more rather than come down with it. All things to work on.
  17. Looks like Kreuser and Eady are the NDSU players to guard. This may be the easiest opponent for Nebraska. Nevada plays 3 guards to start and 2 Forwards. They have 1 guard rotate in and 3 forwards. Nevada vs Nebraska will be interesting as Nebraska has a lot of guards they can run out there while Nevada is tall. Nebraska will need their packline defense/defend the paint for Nevada. Thanks for the link 49r. I don't have to try and describe it now.
  18. NDSU played 9 guys in 1st half while Nevada has played 6, oops now they are at 9. Nevada has a 7-0,6-10, and 6-9 that they are rotating between pf and C but they aren't hefty. Nevada is young. Low scoring game.
  19. I was really impressed with McGowen's defense and overall game. Lead the team with 3 steals. I also thought Thor did a good job with defense and the offense flows well when he is in. I was elated with Mayen's treys and rebounding. He's a great fit in this offense. Banton is a stat sheet stuffer matchup quandry. Sky is the limit for him. Allen is strong and crafty with the ball. Strong rotation behind these guys. I was really impressed with Stevenson. Strong & versatile player. Good all around. Webster ended up as our leading scorer. He's going to be a spark. Yvan ended up as our leading rebounder. He has plenty of room to grow.
  20. Maybe he tested positive and they are waiting on a retest.
  21. The team had 19 assists to 10 turnovers. That's good. The team shot 50% overall. That's good. The team shot 41.7% from 3. That's good. The team shot 69% at the FT line, which is improvement. The team won. That's great!
