You know what, despite the "Gumby" thinking, I agree. Especially with more open outside shots. Front-ironed some, which is often tired legs.

I've always envied those who are not burdened with self-awareness.

In the pick 'em contest, I picked Minnesota and Maryland over the Huskers. Hated to be right. This game, I am going with the Husker. What the heck. It's time to get a W no matter what.

Theriot's nickname with coach is "Gumby". Meaning she has a gumby-like body that allows her to play big minutes without the normal wear and tear that mortals face. That may be a slight exaggeration, but I believe it to be basically true. I expect she will play between 36-40 minutes every game, unless she is in foul trouble (which happens extremely rarely). I think Romeo's minutes will come from mainly from other than Theriot.

Agree. I also wish him well, but I think this will end poorly. I predict he ultimately transfers to a lower level where he won't have to use a transfer year. Surprised Georgetown offered him.

We will have room.

Winning at Iowa is not a must win in any way, shape or form. Now, winning Thursday at home against Rutgers is a must win.

Vegas sure thinks it's all Iowa. 10-11 point spread last time I checked.

Jessica Shepard is on the Naismith Girls Player of the Year Watch List
HB replied to redsteve's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Jess was at the game today. Dayna Finch came over to her seat and they exchanged words; Jess had tears in her eyes after that encounter. And then, just minutes before the game, Connie came clear across the court to talk to Jess for several minutes. I have never seen Connie do that before. Very nice. Jess was upbeat; every one was asking her how she was doing and she said "pretty good". I heard it was an ACL tear only, with no meniscus injury. -
So Mr. Dead Troll guy: If we bench all the guys who don't have to be guarded, Who do you put in? Please be specific about who takes over 25 minutes for Benny. P.S. Menke loves you

I was very impressed with Maryland. They had length, bulk, mobility, and shooters. That's all there is. Longest arms I have seen across the board. Really bothered Rachel and our inside players. Maryland will win the Big barring injuries. And they have only ONE senior. I think we'll be OK, but we certainly didn't fight back when Maryland came out firing the second half. Emily at times seems to defer. She needs to understand how good she is. Hopefully Natalie will shake off the rust, Kalenta will get some minutes, and we'll get it going.

Leaving now for a quick pregame libation and then the game. GBR!

LSU gets a commit from Antonio Blakeney, a high level shooting guard commit. LSU class is loaded. Wonder if McVeigh has a committable offer.

Also hard to run when you can't rebound

And in warm ups before games!!!!!!! But he was careful to not have them dunk, unlike Kye....

How are the missed layups a product of a coach's inability to X and O? Sure you love Miles, you just don't think he can coach. Classic. Yes missed layups are a coaching aspect its basic basketball knowledge to know when you go up for contested layup you should bank off the window. If go for a layup soft and try to lay it the hoop you better just dunk it. Listen Miles has the tools in recruiting the talent to win this years class is example of that but his offense is just awful there is no back door cutting all it is screen and pop around the 3pt line and if thats covered we either give it to petteway who waits for a screen and launches a 25ft jumper thats low percentage or we try to drive the line and pray we get fouled for the and-1. Hopefully lots things change when Leslee Smith and Moses come back but come on guys you cannot tell me Leslee Smith and Moses are beast in the middle that change the course so drastically that we all of sudden become top 25 level team. I just don't see it. Heres a fact that really bothers me: Petteway scores 23pts, Shavon Shields scores 22pts, Walter Pitchford Scores 11 pts and you still lose by 5 that should never happen with these type of scoring. Yep, we're just rolling in talent. That's why Crean chose not to guard 2 or 3 talented players every time we had the ball. I don't see how not having guys who can shoot should remotely affect our offensive production. Any decent coach should be able to get around that problem....

We're going to need it. I am very concerned about Maryland's physicality. It would be great if Kalenta could give us at least a few minutes. It's not a good match up for Havers.
-
Good clip. In addition to being an A-hole, Crean is now officially an absolute liar. He clearly tells MIles to shut up--twice--in the clip. Yet he makes a huge production in the postgame interviews of saying he did not tell him to shut up.

it would be nice if we could play more, and we will if Leslie can go at all and when Moses comes back. Could have 9 guys playing at least spot minutes then. If you watch more than offense (average fan doesn't), Fuller gets exposed badly. Last night he was trying mightily to get some boards, but each time he got beat by a much more athletic player. Pretty sure the coaches feel Hammonds and Fuller can't defend at this level, or they would be playing them. Pretty sure coaches watch every practice so they are in a better position to know who can be on the floor than the fans. I don't like a 7 man lineup either. Frankly, I don't like Benny getting 30+ minutes either. But that's what we have now. This will have to get solved through recruiting. And what I saw in November, and what is happening since then, is encouraging.

You are wrong about Crean outcoaching Miles last night. Indiana had considerably more talent on the floor, and we got beat by 5 points. We rebound the ball with 35 seconds left (just bricked it off our hands) we have the ball down 3. We have 2 or 3 guys on the floor at all times who don't have to be guarded. You try to devise an offense with that. Pitchford is out most the first half with foul trouble. The only coaching area you could look at critically would be not adjusting to the lob play. And what's your ultimate point? We won't make the NCAA tournament so its all over for the program? I like what we have coming back, and what we have coming in. Programs aren't always built with a straight line going up. This year, we have 2 really good wings and not much else. To use last night as an example of getting outcoached and not making progress is picking the wrong game. We actually raised the level of our play from what we have been showing. We're still pretty average, but we showed a lot of progress with turnovers and second half D. I agree it doesn't look good for making the tournament, but I'm still bullish on Miles and his ability to build a competitive program at a difficult place to do it in.
