it's not like div two teams are just sitting around waiting for people to call and schedule them. they have leagues of their own to chase, and I can't imagine at this time of year it would be in their interest to serve as practice fodder for a P5 team. Delany's just being Delany--his job is to make money however he can. The sports part of it is remotely secondary.

No matter what happens to us, there's a critical mass building against the rpi measure that indicates it's on borrowed time for the NCAA. If some good teams get wildly jobbed during the selection process, I think we'll see an offseason overhaul IF the tourney results cough up evidence that rpi isn't especially reliable. (meaning quite a few mis-seeds in the below 5th above 14th area; too many upsets). Conference weights just have to be re-evluated, because right now, it seems the only important part of the season is the first third of it, and then everything else is self-confirming bias. Edit: (and why do I keep being asked a reason? I feel like I need a hall pass to edit) It just burns that one missed KU shot at the end of a game and not drawing marist is the difference between us being firmly in and being on a Sisyphean task to get in. That seems the definition of paper thin arbitrary.

I'm sympathetic, as someone who knows a lot of independent journalists. But the American model is both a content and business disaster and on its rightful deathbed. Since we've returned to an age of propaganda driven information similar to the mid to late 19th century, I'll support local independent media if it's homegrown and donor supported (similar to Indymedia's attempts in the 90s-aughts). I'll never support advertising-based media ever again. They're too influential on the process by far. Still, it's a tragedy that talented writers go to waste in areas not so contentious. More casualties in a battle royale over the ownership of the minds of people.

win win. you'd think by now we really have to take one game at a time. we can lose to PSU quite easily at home. Let's just play whom the good lord sets in front of us. And then, you know, destroy them and hear the lamentation of the women.

during the game, at one point i was practically screaming for a big to enter the game and start playing a bit rougher with IUs easy penetration. I had Okeke in mind, mostly to just hack a few of them to get them less comfortable. Jordy comes in instead and plays better than he had been. Duby has a use this season, and it's generally designated hack man or blocker, and I thought we needed a bit of that last night. So he'll get minutes every now and then. But Jordy--for all his limitations--is still the only remotely skilled big man we have. And he has to play first.

Actually, I believe that was specifically talked about in the broadcast during the Illinois game (before we wet the bed). But that could have been just the thoughts of the B1G rep only. But I think that's not something publicly if they're just lobbying. I really think they do give us credit. And acknowledge that the schedule was beyond our control. I think we're going to look better in the process than fans think, what with our obsession over rpi and whatever that goatf***ing cretin Lunardi has to snark about (I'm just being bitter).

I'm riffing here, so my recollection might be in huge error--but it seems to me we've only had 3 home court opportunities at 1 Quadrant games all season. And in that group, we went 2-1 with the only loss a last second make by KU. We were that close to going undefeated against Quad 1 teams at home this season (and it's already been said that the committee is likely to grants us that status for the Minny pre-scandal win). You have to believe that's going to mitigate the rpi effect in the selection process. we just didn't get hardly any home games to prove ourselves.

i think we're about to see some exceptions to the reign of rpi this year. the quadrant system is messed up enough, but it's highlighting the weaknesses of the self-fulfilling prophecy component of the rpi. i think we get in if we beat psu, even if we lose the first rd game in the tourney as long as it's to a #5 seed. We have to beat PSU, tho. If we lose that one, we'll likely have to make the tourney finals.

this is just one where you take the win and move on. this team has the most irritating habit of trying to win games in the last 8-10 minutes of a game. they really need to put some of that mania into the rest of the game, too. i think that habit cost them the illinois game and nearly cost them this one, especially when they decided to miss every single free throw they were awarded at the end. they're close to be a really good ball club, but they need to clean up the mental side of the game more than anything else.

gotta beat PSU, but if we do, I think we get in. Two good wins against two hot teams at the end will matter.
