  1. OMG, it really says that; it's not just a photoshop.
  2. On the bright side, the whole strategy of "slow the game down by running the shot clock down to the end on every possession before chucking up a 3" was vindicated tonight. On the other hand, they didn't run any weave, so ...
  3. What the hell? Do they think we returned Isaiah Roby or something?
  4. He's got a million quips. And millions more he hasn't even thought of yet. He'll have no shortage of material, I'm sure of that. The key is whether he can explain stuff. I always loved Raftery because he could explain things so well. Plus he was fun to listen to. I think Miles will be a hoot and I can't wait to hear him do the color in a game.
  5. This is about what my expectations are for the season. More than this, and I'll be happy.
  6. I stopped doing the HHCC contest because I'd forget to pick a score some game and it would knock me out of the running and then I'd be all pissed about it. That said, I'm going to make a prediction about the season win-loss record because I'm usually accused (and guilty) of being a sunshine pumper but I look at some of these win predictions in this thread and find myself scratching my head. I get told I do it every year -- pump things up and make it seem like we'll go undefeated. I've pumped things up this year as well, but just want to go on record that, while I'm excited about what we're going to see from Hoiberg's team, I don't have any misapprehension about us being a top shelf Big Ten team. I mean, we're not. And we won't be. I think we'll have a very good back court, but I think we'll struggle in conference games and it'd be a pretty good accomplishment for us to win more than about 3-4 conference games. So, I'm thinking 7-8 non-con wins and another 3-4, maybe 5, conference wins. I'm going to say 12 total wins and I'll be satisfied. More than that and I'm happy.
  7. I don't care. I'm just happy for Tim. We're flush with money so it's not like we need it to make payroll or anything.
  8. Marial Mading. I think he's Daniel's brother. And, yes, Daniel was someone we recruited. Might even have gotten a visit from.
  9. Daniel Mading? His name sounds familiar. Did we try to recruit him?
  10. Interesting survey results. Really tells you something when Dachon is the nearly unanimous choice of the players for best defender.
  11. @jayschool I believe you would be correct, but under the circumstances, he should get a waiver. I mean, he had two coaches leave on him. That ain't right. He's sat long enough.
  12. Not only are we not the worst or even the second worst. We're not even the worst or second worst in the Big Ten conference. Indiana, Penn State and Rutgers all below us. I think the goal should be 7-8 non-conference wins.
  13. I am betting he will hit it big with this and, if he chooses to do so, would become the next Bill Raftery of college basketball analysts. He's going to be highly entertaining. I know I, for one, will seek out the games he'll be assigned to just to hear the zingers he'll be throwing out.
  14. Congratulations to Tim. He'll always be one of my all-time favorite Husker hoops coaches. Wish him nothing but the best.
  15. Actually … I think we can work with that.
  16. By the way, I don't think this is too much hyperbole. It's not just his athleticism. The MFer dished out 8 assists last night and grabbed 7 rebounds. In 23 minutes. Some of his assists were . With his athleticism and passing ability, he has NBA potential. You can see why Hoiberg said he has the chance to be special.
  17. There were a couple of times he got the ball inside and, instead of going up strong with it, he tried going around or under the defenders with his feet on the floor. Playing more finesse than power. A couple of times, he got it inside and should have just elevated and dunked it. I'm wondering if he's maybe carrying too much weight. With his height (I think he's legit 6'9) and wingspan (I've read it's over 7 ft), he should be able to dunk effortlessly. He needs to learn to use his shoulder width to carve out space and then just go up over people.
  18. I know the dunk attempt you're talking about and I quite agree. He drew contact from a defender going in, which probably caused him to miss the dunk, but it was the most athletic play by a Nebraska basketball player than I can ever recall. The kid has some serious hops. I expect one of those to go down sometime soon in a game that counts where more eyeballs will see him do it and they'll be amazed at how explosive this kid is.
  19. Good: Lotta good ball movement; fairly even distribution of scoring, meaning a lot of guys contributed; we have some superb athletes on this squad; when Dachon Burke heats up, look out; Cam Mack really sets the table. Some of those dishes were pretty sweet. Bad: For a big guy, Yvan doesn't play real big, on the offensive end at least; we didn't take good care of the ball, granted it's early, but still a bit too sloppy; intensity wasn't always there, particularly on D. Ugly: Shooting, especially at the stripe, but also beyond the arc. How did we manage to shoot under 50% from the line?
  20. I assume Shamiel won't play in the exhibition. Won't play until the NCAA rules on his eligibility. But, say they finally get back to us 10 games into the season and say, yep, he gets a waiver ... That decision to wait to file the waiver request might come back to bite us. Of course, we might hear tomorrow. And that'd be great. But we still won't see him tonight and it would have been nice to have him get some reps in live action.
  21. DEE-fense!!! (clap, clap) DEE-fense!!!! (clap, clap) GO! BIG! RED! (clap) GO! BIG! RED! (clap) GO! BIG! RED! (clap) (as opposed to the "goooooooo biiiiiiiiig reeee'eedd Go! Big! Red!" you generally hear now)
  22. Same. I think we'll be getting a glimpse of what will look like a bright future. All season long, we'll be saying "this team would be really, really good if we just had a ______." And, in the off-season, I expect us to fill in for next year whatever that blank might be.
