Tummala will also have 3 years of eligibility, instead of the usual 2 years. Both Tummala and Smith are already physically developed to the point that they can contribute in the Big Ten right away. Herbert is 6'10", 230 lbs, and athletic. He will still require some time to develop physically, but he is coming in without needing the same EXTREME weight gain/weight loss as last few foreign post players that Nebraska has brought in. He is also much more athletic. He was offered by Utah, Long Beach State and Kansas State, and had heavy interest from Miami, Boston College and Michigan. He has much more upside than any of the others have had. I would love to see Nebraska start pulling high school recruits from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, etc, but Nebraska doesn't have those connections/relationships yet. It sounds like that is something that Miles is going to fix with the new coaching hires.

Mikael Herbert - PF - Visiting Nebraska

I like those measurements a lot better. I think I'd prefer to grab both Sai and Herbert and let Vucetic walk. I couldn't agree more -

6'10", 228 lbs is alot better than 180 lbs. Would still be nice to get him here and put 15-20lbs before the start of next season -

Mikael Herbert - PF - Visiting Nebraska
Nebrasketballer replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Nebraska’s latest basketball recruiting target is a 6-9 power forward from Finland. Let’s use the term “power” forward rather loosely. Internet research of 19-year-old Mikael Herbert tells us that he’s 180 pounds, and if you watch these game clips from YouTube, that measurement doesn’t seem far off. (Herbert is No. 4). Herbert, though, is quite skilled, and he’s someone who might be making an official visit to Lincoln in the coming weeks, perhaps as soon as late next week. Herbert played the last two seasons for UU-Korihait, a Finnish team located in Uusikaupunki. This season, he played in 24 games, and averaged 23 minutes, 7.2 points and 2.9 rebounds. He’s the son of Gordon Herbert, a former Canadian National Team player who later was an NBA assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors. He’s now coaching in Germany. Nebraska will sign junior college forward Leslee Smith on Wednesday – the first day of the late spring signing period. That will leave, as of now, one scholarship opening for the upcoming season. Who fills it? Herbert? Or Sai Tummala, the 6-7 wing from Salt Lake City Community College who visited over the weekend? Or might Nebraska take both? That, of course, would mean attrition, but if -- IF -- there’s anybody leaving the program, don’t expect any news of that regard until the end of the spring semester in three weeks. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/life-in-the-red/talking-hoops-recruiting-assistant-coach/article_a6cac8fa-a6db-11e2-85df-001a4bcf887a.html -
Asst. Coach Ben Johnson to Minnesota
Nebrasketballer replied to joshvanklomp's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I also wouldn’t expect an assistant coach hire in that period, either. Tim Miles said Monday he didn’t have a candidate in mind, and he would take his time to find a replacement for Ben Johnson, who Tuesday was officially announced as the newest member of Richard Pitino’s staff at Minnesota. People have already asked me if Ronald “Chin” Coleman would be in the mix to replace Johnson. Coleman briefly served at Nebraska as director of player personnel – a non- on-the-road recruiting role – before taking a full-time assistant coaching job at Bradley last season. My short answer: Don’t count on it. Coleman wasn’t a full-time assistant at Nebraska because he lacked the vast recruiting experience Miles wants in a Big Ten assistant. I’m not sure that five months at Bradley constitutes as vast experience. That should also answer questions about former Husker player Erick Strickland being considered for the job. Strickland could, perhaps, get a look if Miles opts to fill the aforementioned player-personnel role. As things stand now, though, Miles is waiting to see how the NCAA defines that position before – or if – he decides to make a hire there. In the meantime, Miles has put Jayden Olson on the road for recruiting. Olson is Nebraska's director of basketball operations, and also filled a temporary recruiting role last spring while Miles put together his first Nebraska staff. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/life-in-the-red/talking-hoops-recruiting-assistant-coach/article_a6cac8fa-a6db-11e2-85df-001a4bcf887a.html -

I disagree. At 6'5", 200 lbs, his size and athleticism would be very valuable to Nebraska's current group of guards. With the combination of size and athleticism, he has tremendous up side that Nebraska could use at the guard position. And I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that he has more playing time/experience in the NCAA tournament than any other player on Nebraska's roster. As Kamdy pointed out, It's likely that Creighton will include Nebraska on the list of schools that Johnson is not allowed to transfer to, but that doesn't mean that "We don't really want him."

Most coaches will agree to let you out of your scholarship but you cant go in conference or to future opponents. So that probably leaves Nebraska out. Yeah, that makes sense. I would love to see Miles go after him though, if Nebraska isn't ruled out by the Creighton coaching staff.

I would welcome Nevin Johnson to Nebraska in a heartbeat! 6'5", 200 lbs, SG. I know that Nebraska currently needs to add some depth to bang around in the paint, but Johnson could be very dangerous at the 2-Spot for Nebraska. He is very athletic. He is a currently Freshman and could sit out next season and then step in to add depth to the 2-spot, once Gallegos graduates. He also has experience playing in a successful program and has seen playing time in the NCAA tourney. He is right down the road and would be much easier to get him to visit, than it would be to get alot of other people to visit. And I would imagine he would have a little something to prove when Nebraska plays Creighton. Go get him Miles! 2011-12: Redshirted at Creighton • Practiced but did not play for Creighton’s 2011-12 MVC Tournament championship team that finished 29-6, as part of a redshirt season. Nevin Johnson Rivals article (from high school): Johnson is a long, aggressive defender with the ability to beat players off the dribble. Thanks a YouTube video (below) that recently surfaced from a high school basketball fundraiser in Houston, we now know that Johnson can get off the ground in a hurry. However, there were some who questioned his desire and Johnson had to go through a lot to show college coaches that he had what it took to play at a high level. http://creighton.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1229159

According his mother, Creighton guard Nevin Johnson has asked for his release from his scholarship at Creighton. In a text message, his mother wrote to TheBluejaycafe.com: "Nevin has asked for his release from Creighton. He has to find a school that will utilize his 'given' talents and not a team that tries to make him someone he is not. And then wonder why he is not succedding like the coach desires." http://creighton.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1496142 Nevin Johnson: 6'5", 200 lbs, Fr, SG His Rivals highschool profile: http://rivals.yahoo.com/creighton/basketball/recruiting/player-Nevin-Johnson-93755;_ylt=AtccWU.mCmX81_ChMsw1ZosZ8rB_
