  2. I agree. In a perfect world, I would have loved to get both... I think Tummala would have made a bigger immediate impact, but I think Herbert has the potential to do more for Nebraska by the time he graduates, if he decides to come to Nebraska. 6'10" with pretty good skills for his size. That's not easy to find. And with schools like Michigan, UCLA, Arizona, Miami, Kansas St, Providence, Boston College showing interest, he definitely has some skills, This could be one of those players that someone was talking about that Nebraska needs steal away from the big boy programs. Beating out this list of schools for a recruit would be a huge step for Tim Miles and this program.
  3. And it's not like he averaged 7 points a game in highschool... That was with the Finnish pro team. He averaged 7.2 points, 52.7 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds. He averaged 23 minutes in 24 games.
  4. UCLA is also showing heavy interest
  5. Robin Washut: Unlike Vucetic, Herbert is expected to be able to contribute immediately next season, even at the Big Ten level. He would likely be a "stretch four" at the D I level. He will be ready to enroll for the start of summer classes. Link to premium content article from Rivals if you have an account: http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1502070
  6. Incoming point guard Tai Webster, a New Zealand native, is a likely starter. Wow. ESPN just loves this kid. They must have seen a little bit more in person than we have available to us on video. Don't get me wrong, I think Webster is going to be great, maybe one of the best players that Nebraska has had in a long time, but ESPN has had nothing but great things to say about him. They ranked him a 4-Star, said he would likely be a top-25 or top-50 player if he was in the US (or something like that), and now expecting him to be a starter as a true freshman...If Webster is as good as ESPN thinks he is, then Nebraska's turnaround could be alot more dramatic and happen alot more quickly than even those of us that wear the husker-goggles currently expect... I hope they are right!
  7. I said a month or so ago that a DI scout told me he was a stretch to play in the Big Ten. Same guy also said Leslee Smith was a great pickup for us. For what it's worth. Haha. He told you? or...He told everyone that was listening to Sharp and Benning that morning? (myself included)
  8. If you consider Sai to be a project, then Nebraska will likely never land a player that is polished enough for your standards...
  9. I understand what you are saying, but I don't really agree with it. If NU ever wants to reach the top half of the conference and become a regular NCAA contender, then it is going to have to start landing some major prospects (and I'm not even certain I would call Sai a major prospect). I hate to break to you, but major prospects will ALWAYS have other quality options. Unless that prospect was born and raised in Nebraska--which is highly unlikely--then there is ALWAYS going to be a "home state" school and most likely, if that player is a major prospect, then that home state is also going to offer him. Or, as in this case, there may be multiple schools in the home state (ie, Arizone, ASU, etc), and maybe 1 or 2 of those home state schools will offer. Of, if it is not the home state, there are still going to almost ALWAYS be other more "prominent" schools with more tradition and NCAA wins, etc. At some point, this program must overcome those obstacles. That really is the only way to get this program where we want it to be. Losing Sai is not going to make or break this program or Coach Miles and I am not going to lose any sleep over it. But I will never understand that attitude of so many who seem to be happy (some almost giddy) simply because we are "competing" with other average BCS programs for a recruit. ASU is no UNC or KU. Yes, it was his home state, but as stated above, every player has a home state. If we succumb to that excuse every time, then we will never get a major recuit. At some point, what needs to be done must be done. It certainly won't be easy, but it is the only way. Sai was a major prospect and ever since the first time he popped up on Nebraska's radar I have had the opinion that he would play right away. He has a great skill set, athleticism for a player that is 6'7", 215 lbs. He was under the radar when Nebraska offered him, then his recruitment started to blow up at the end. Obviously, Nebraska will have to start landing major prospects, in order to take this program where we all want it to go, but it is naive and unrealistic to expect Nebraska to beat out the home school for a recruit at this point. (Especially when a current player on the ASU bball team has the same trainer as Sai). Tim Miles has only been here a little over a year and he already has multiple quality guys signed right now. I believe that with Miles, this program will reach the point where they can overcome these obstacles, but when you have never won an NCAA tournament game in your school's history, things don't turn around over night. It just takes time. That doesn't mean that I'm happy or giddy about it...that's just how it is. This stings, because I wanted Tummala to be a Husker just as much, if not more than anyone. But who knows? Maybe Herbert will end up being the guy...
  10. Who has all offer him so far? Herbert has offers from K-State, Utah, Miami (FL), Long Beach St, Providence. Interest from Boston College and Michigan
  11. Herbert has offers from Kansas State, Utah, Miami (FL) and Providence, and recently visited Providence. Michigan, Boston College and Arizona are also showing interest. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/article_8cdc81b6-b349-11e2-b905-0019bb2963f4.html#.UYKqoPX0i9I.twitter

  13. I think you forgot this one: 9) Nebraska has open coaching positions to fill and Herbert's dad coached in the NBA
  14. Have some faith in the coaching staff if they think this kid is worthy of an offer they obviously see something in him. Agree. Tummala was pretty under the radar when Nebraska offered him, but then (as Norm predicted) his recruiting blew up. I think Miles and his staff have an eye for talent, so if they want Herbert, then I will trust them, until they give me a reason not to.
  15. I see where you are coming from and I don't know that I have completely convinced myself that I don't agree with you. But I do think this kid has alot of upside considering he has only played basketball for 2 years (I think I read that earlier on in the thread). He is fairly athletic considering that, along with the fact that he hasn't seen a college weight room or conditioning program yet. Plus, the weight that he needs to gain is not nearly as severe as other foriegn post players currently on the roster. The good thing about this could be that if they were able to sign Herbert, then Nebraska could focus all of thier efforts on landing a stud Center in the 2014 class (ie Myles Turner who could very easily be 6'11", 250 lbs by the time he gets on a college basketball court). That could allow Nebraska more flexibility to play guys like Pitchford and Herbert at the 4-Spot. A rotation at the 4-Spot that includes Pitchford (6'10"), Herbert (6'10"), Smith (6'8"), and Rivers (6'7") wouldn't be too bad if they had Turner (6'11") and maybe even Vucetic (7'1")(IF he is able to make HUGE gains in the weight room and weight gaining areas of his development) to play in the 5-Spot. Plus, you could slide Pitchford and/or Herbert over to play the 5-Spot if you wanted to get a group of more skilled and athletic guys on the court to get up and down the floor.

  18. Maybe initially, before the season starts, but but a single commit like him would make a huge difference on the court. More wins grows the fanbase over time. Yep, I agree with that. I mentioned I think he would make a big impact on the team's success (which obviously would lead to a larger fanbase). It's just my opinion that him committing wouldn't really change how many 2013 season tickets are sold. I agree with that.
