Season-End Awards 2016-2017
MitchMcGaryMunchies replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
No, I'm just not easily impressed. A pair of $60 Stan Smiths with Miles' face painted on the tongue doesn't move the needle for me. There's no market for that and it generates very little interest for those outside of the program. It looks cheap and gimmicky. Wearing a pair of Adidas Human Races that sold out everywhere in seconds and resells for 4x it's MSRP is more intriguing. While I don't typically advocate that we follow Rick Pitino's lead, he has seemed to figure this one out: -
Next Years Starting 5

So you think Anton Gill coming off yet another surgically repaired knee is a better defender than the recently crowned defensive MVP of the team? Taylor had 4 steals in a game. Twice. That's as many steals as Gill had all season. There's no player on this team I want to succeed more than Gill, but I think he may struggle to find a spot. But he does have excellent length and if he can hit the 3, then I think he can pull some minutes from Palmer and Taylor. -

Two of the three aren't returning, so I guess we just need to convince Jordy to take of those Jordan 12s. Adidas has a lot more hype than Jordan/Nike right now, so I'm really not worried about sneaker wars with potential recruits. It would be nice if Adidas showed us a little more love, though. We need Tim Miles to embrace sneaker culture the way Mike Riley has: -

But should I be concerned that 3 of these 5 guys are in Nikes/Jordans? #3StripeLife -
Season-End Awards 2016-2017

Not surprised to see these faces, although very impressed at Glynn's accomplishments in the weight room! I think that in Glynn, Evan, and Jordy we are looking at the leaders of next year's team. -
RIP Darryl Dawkins. Somewhere in the afterlife, Chocolate Thunder and Craig Sager are busy stunting on each other to see who has the more colorful wardrobe. But Chocolate Thunder is purely a nickname, administered by Stevie Wonder. Because Dawkins dunked so hard Wonder could feel it

Hard not to respect a no-nonsense guy that plays lock-down defense and leads a team without demanding a lot of personal accolades. Plus, he went by the name Cookie Belcher. I would think that he has one of the most entertaining names in college basketball history. Way better food reference than Tacko Fall. Less sexual-sounding than Fat Lever or Magic Johnson. Not as blasphemous as God Shammgod...

I mean, he is the most decorated and celebrated Husker basketballer of all time. I think that warrants the correct spelling of his name.

Padding the Stats: Finding an Identity
MitchMcGaryMunchies replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If we try to draw up a crunch-time isolation play for Jordy in the post, the defense is most likely going to rotate over to double team him. He needs to work on his court vision and passing out of the post to sense when and from where that double team is coming, and kick the ball out to the open man for a shot. I think we really need Jordy to get a better grasp of the screen and roll game. He's big and athletic enough that he could be a terror if him and Glynn could figure it out. That's a sure fire way to get our assists up. -
*Tyronn. Also, I believe that they are second cousins if we are really splitting hairs

So does this mean we're going to pluck Trevon Duval from Kansas, as well?

Hopefully Miles limits these conversations with Coach Mac to crank calls? -
Fire Marc Boehm and hire me at 1/10th the cost and I'll run this show like Daryl Morey.

We only return two players that shot higher than 30% on 3FG last season: Watson: 39.3% McVeigh: 33.8% And only one more guy that shot over 25% (Gill - 27.6%). I'd have no problem giving the green light to a big that shot 30% from 3. Chris Boucher shot 35.0% last year and it worked well for the Ducks.

The NBA's transformation to more transition/3-point shooting didn't happen overnight. It was largely driven by analytics and its early adopters like the Mavs and Rockets. You obviously have to have the correct personnel to make it work, and obtaining the right guys is much more difficult in the college game where you can't simply buy/trade for them and players have a short shelf life. Even more difficult to do at an institution such as Nebraska where a freshman recruit has a half-life of ~1 season. Can it be done? Definitely. Look at what Oregon is doing, or Florida State. The Seminoles ranked in the top 40 in "adjusted tempo" this season after being as low as 202nd six years ago. The number of teams that shoot 40% or more of their shots from outside the arc has also been trending upward lately: 2016-2017: 82 teams 2015-2016: 66 teams 2014-2015: 46 teams 2013-2014: 35 teams 2012-2013: 34 teams I've got to ask...does anyone know what our sports analytics department is doing for Nebrasketball? After making a big deal about creating the group a couple years ago, I have heard virtually nothing about it. We haven't taken the lead from every single NBA team or every soccer team of significance and installed a SportVu player tracking system at the PBA. Really makes me question if we have the right people in charge of this...

FYI - you show Jeriah Horne transferring back for a senior season in 2019-20. And I don't think there's any possible way of that happening!

Also, sounds like he is close with someone currently on the team that is also from Oakland. That sort of softens the blow of him cancelling his visit to come see us -
2019 PF Matthew Hurt -> Duke

Back when he was still a Jayhawk, Huckleberry once came to my high school gym to watch Nick Bahe practice. Even Roy makes mistakes some times -

But you'd posted in the old Matt Hurt thread? -
Technically, I think those actions would make you more of a "lurker" than a troll? That said, it's feasible that a lurker could one day speak up and become a troll, but a troll cannot silence themselves to become a lurker. Kind of like how a rectangle can sometimes be a square, but a square cannot be a rectangle.

In all fairness, if the jersey is from the start of Joe's sophomore season, it's probably very roomy and comfortable to sleep in.

Jeriah Horne will transfer
MitchMcGaryMunchies replied to MidwestDrummer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I mean, he did pull down more offensive boards than both Caleb Swanigan and Trevor Thompson this season... -
Partially agree. I never felt that the cheer squad chanting did much. The chants were always pretty lame and only a small percentage of the crowd chanted along in unison. "Defense-Huskers-Defense" with a couple megaphone taps at the end for good measure isn't going to be nearly as effective as the din of people screaming at the tops of their lungs. That said, the University is completely clueless on this matter. I can remember when I was a student, their representatives came out before tip a couple times to suggest some extra lame new cheers. I think if you want something sustainable, it needs to be somewhat organic. The best place for that to start is in the student section, but their turnover can make it difficult for new traditions to take hold. I've told other Husker fans before that we need something like Sam's Army. For those of you who aren't very sports woke, this is the fan support group for the US soccer team. They have a charter with guidelines for their members, and they post videos on their blog showcasing the chants that will be implemented at each match. I don't know why we can't have something similar to this? I can't tell you how many times I've thought about registering tims-army.com. Would you enlist if I did?

Good -- and bad -- FT shooting can definitely be contagious. It can be tough to settle your nerves when you've just watched your teammate fire up a brick with the game on the line. Unless of course you're Glynn Watson. He should change his number to -1 because the blood in that man's veins is SUB-ZERO! Maybe some of it was to blame on the up-and-down game...we were looking a little exhausted at times and I suppose muscle memory may start to decay with fatigue. But I feel like FT shooting is 90% mental, and we do have a young team. This pressure is such good experience for them, closing-out these tight games. It can only benefit us down the line.

NCAA Tournament Projections

Correct. Lunardi publishes this on Thursdays, thus before our win against Iowa and also before Northwestern's loss to Minnesota.
