Tim Miles walks into a bar. The bartender says,"What can I get you?" Miles: I need a big man! The bartender brings out a Busch Light tall boy. "Ha ha ha." OMG! "That's a good one. Wait till I tell the Mrs that one." " Someone should get that to Steve Martin so he can use it at the Pinewood Bowl this fall." Or, "Is it bad joke." If it's a bad joke is it as bad as Miles going two consecutive seasons and working on his third with an open schollie? Whats the reason behind not filling schollies? A. Lack of wisdom. B. Energy deficit. C. Afraid of adding to his big-man stiffs and whiffs. D Trying to acquire brown-nose points with the administration by keeping schollie expenses down. Granted Miles has had some tough big-man luck like losing a recruit to Kent State but he hasn't done much, if anything, to enhance his big-man good luck.

Miles got his pants pulled down, on a Sunday, no less, by World Herald NU hoops beat writer, Lee B. Seven partial columns along with four color photos, with stats, of Miles big-man flops. Smith 6-8 254 two seasons, 10 starts, 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds: Vucetic 7-1 238 played 34 minutes in two seasons: Abraham 6-9 252 22 games 1.6 pts and 4.4 rebounds and Hammond 6-10 235 Started eight games in two years 1.7 pts 2.2 rebounds. Then Lee B lays into Miles big-man whiffs he couldn't sign. E Robertson 7-1 290 started 4 frosh games at LSU 0.5 pts and 3.4 rebounds, soph year started seven games, 2.4 pts and 2.1 rebounds, Chukwu 7-2 226 Providence freshman 2.6points and 2.4 rebounds and Atewe 6-9, 235 1.5 pts and 3.4 as a freshman. Miles now trying to line up Jordy Tshimanga 6-11 260 lbs. Has played much basketball until the last four years. Has lost more than 40 lbs. Miles one day seems all hyped about post season play then cites the democratic process between the players and the administration as the reason they don't want the opportunity to go on regional or national tv and play in a post season tournament and end the season closer to.500. With the NCAA tournament comes get-togethers and stories start to creep out after a few beers. No doubt many are bs, but with that much smoke there is at least a few sparks of fire. Miles poor- decision process may not be limited to stupid t-fouls. Things arent adding up! I dont see him lasting past next year, and may be looking this year. Just sayin.

Thanks, Hoop. That's good to know; sure seems like a good fit with the qualifier "leader." Git'r done, Miles & Co. Add in Jordy & NU seems set on the interior for the 1st time in a while! Shot blocker, Ill take it. Im not greedy.

Down by 20 after 12 minutes at home on Senior Day doesn't cut it. Not saying Miles has lost the team but Im watching closely for the balance of the season. Im a broken record on this but not filling scholarships and not recruiting serviceable big men is killing us. Get someone on staff who can get the big man job done. In my mind, Miles spends too much time telling knock-knock jokes to the hotel night front desk clerk than searching out big men. -
I ll buy it. Really does need to get a big man. Either Miles gets one or he should hire a coach who can recruit a big man.

Someone feel free to start a post game topic

I can handle this loss. -
We have something to build on, Watson, Morrow , White and Lville transfer{next season}. In my book this season is shot. I can live with it IF THEY PLAY HARD. Next season we have to have an improved product.
-
Take a look at Norm's big-man Miles whiff list. It not because of lack of Miles' effort, it's because he cant close. No one else on his staff can either when it comes to big men. We dont need a big man to average 15 and 8. Just someone who has the footwork and length to protect the basket. That's not asking for much. Nebraska has to be one of the easiest teams to scout, if they even send a scout. The scout probably watches a half then heads across the street for a few beers.
-
Another big - man whiff. No need to discuss replacing Miles after this season. Perhaps next season. Even mid -season. How about talking Colo St into trading coaches. Ill take my chances with Eustacy. Excuse my lack of sincerity , but this isn't a serious NU basketball program.

Congrats!!!!! That's a big number. -
10yr season ticket holder. Time to give up?
golfer3 replied to *Deleted Account*'s topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Been a season ticket holder for too many years. Recently it has become a poor value. Too many unattractive non-conference games that you can't give away let alone sell. Too many late start times. 8pm games are a bore. Too easy to watch on tv and save a ton of money not making donations. Who wants frost bite walking over the railroad bridge from the parking lot to the arena? -
uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: Vol 8, Issue 11 - Rhode Island

Find more time for Fuller. Too many turnovers. Loved free throw shooting. WATSON!!!! -
We lost because: Miles couldn't give a ship to a big man wishing to transfer. Guaranteed to start and get minutes. Country's best practice facility. New arena to play in. Couldnt find a taker. Why? My best guess is many big men are too alpha for Miles act. We got killed on the inside. Reluctant shooters. Outside of White our guys to dont look to shoot enough. Simply not aggressive. Miles is a poor recruiter. No excuse for not being all over Patton. What did McDermott see that Miles didnt? Same applies to K Thomas. This season is a long way from over. We got some freshmen who are going to be better than average. But they will never be better than Patton or Thomas.

This is what NU BASKETBALL IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE. EVEN BETTER THINGS DOWN THE ROAD. -
Keanu Pinder has decomitted and opened up his recruitment

No problem with him dropping NU. I was only luke warm on him. -
Former Florida assistant Rashon Burno headed to Nebraska
golfer3 replied to MidwestDrummer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'll take it. Would have liked a former D-1 head coach. -
This time of the year, take what you can get. World - killer, no. Can we use use him? Freak yes.
-
Great point on the ast coaches. An ast coach leaves and so does the relationships he has built with recruits. Hopefully, the new ast coach brings recruit-relationships from his previous position and the recruits are major D1 quality. It's not Miles or NU's responsibility to provide head coaching prospects for other schools. I appreciate your open-minded remarks, regardless of length. Some rah-rahs are compelled to remark-blurt without adequate explanation. I understand thier frustration.

Who are we going to target for our new assistant
golfer3 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Prefer we hire an ex-head coach. Someone who knows a new super arena, state-of-the-art practice facility and a jacked up fan base is a great gig. I keep hearing the excuse makers chirp about the Tim Miles' great coaching tree. Who are they, where are they, how long have they been there, what is thier record, and what have they accomplished? As I understand it Harriman is making 30 K more at New Mex, supposedly. Cant believe he would leave here for a pumped up job title and 30K. -
Something is wrong. Everyone was jacked when Miles got hired. Jumpimg up and down when Chin was coming with Miles from CSU . Super recruiter. Got here and he was put in charge of basketball operations and was restricted to recruiting on campus. Excuse -makers tried to wash it off as Miles brillance because he would have contact with all recruits when they made it to campus. Then he leaves for Bradley and the excuse -makers say its OK, he wants to get back home {he is no longer on the Bradley staff.} Now it's a coach a year leaving. And the excuses keep rolling in. {I'll buy Smith heading for So Dak.} Things are'nt adding up if you are a non-excuse-maker. Love to see Miles take a hike. Unlikely to happen. Cant fire him because he hasnt been here long enough. Even if he has a repeat of last season. Maybe Chin will come back. Im desperate.
-
Bottom line we have to swallow all of this and move on to the next season and the season afterwards. No way can Miles get the boot. We cant be too anxious to pull the trigger. It makes the NU position unatttractive to other prospective coaches. Plus musical chairs is a turnoff. Dont get me wrong Id love to see Miles somewhere else. He relishes being the team clown too much. Maybe he'll move on his own. The bright side is we have White and a couple of 4-stars coming next season. The late recruiting season is a tough go, hopefully we can nail someone who can at least play ten minutes a half next season.
-
Oh well. Petteway must have received sound advice to leave. Perhaps overseas then a shot at the NBA. I hope Shields isnt getting any ideas about leaving NU or quitting hoops.
-
Losing Pitchford hurt because of depth. Losing T Smith hurt because of the future, bright guy with skills. If we lose Watson or Morrow after next season, then the question becomes, whats the point of keeping Miles around?
-
Develop passing skills, in-and-outs to the open man for a rhythm shot and start to run more plays like give-and-goes near the basket, Parker and Smith are quick enough to make this work.

Given that you feel the need to take a shot at someone on the team in most every post you make, it's not a shock that you're underestimating the likability of Miles and discounting how much more rope that gets one in life. He's going to get an extension this year and he'll be back for year 5 even if he goes something like 9-20. Miles is going to figure this out and the administration here is patient enough to weather the bumps. There is no doubt that if you're posting here in three years it will be Miles and a new set of players to zing for now winning but not winning enough. The good ones ones don't need the likability crutch. They count on results. By no means am I calling for Miles, NU is a tough gig. But not as tough as it used to be during the Doc and Barry years. Think about it, one year after losing one player, I repeat one player, and still having the leading scorer and first team all big ten player team player plus and honorable mention all conference return and go down the tubes like this! Curious, what does 16 of your shots getting blocked mean to you. Bad luck, bad hair day, great coaching, but things didn't work out? Or, at least we have some type of record, but I dont care, I go to bed every night after listening to Miles post game show funnies holding my tummy because I'm laugh so hard
