Miles is on notice, listen to sports radio. Thats the consumer speaking. No one is ready to jump ship but they don't want to see a repeat of this next season. Honestly, it's not. Not really. The consumer speaking is the attendance at games. When that dips -- and with PBA being new and cool, we're talking dipping to 11,000-12,000 -- that's speaking. NU averaged 15,569 at home. The team could be 5-25 and still get 8,000-9,000 in that building, so we're not talking Devaney standards. 11,000-12,000 would be noticeable. I totally agree, Im assuming most of those I heard in Brewsky's last night and on sports radiio today will back up thier words with actions. It's possible they may have been over-stating thier position after watching Penn St block 16 Nebraska shots last night.

At this level its almost always about recruiting since almost all the coaches can coach. Miles had a great recruiting season this year. Next recruiting season will be difficult to duplicate based on the way we closed this season compared to last season, I feel. Along those lines he hasn't done the best job of developing players either. Contrary to what some may feel, Miles likeability, zingers, one-liners and atttention-drawing routines will wear thin if he doesn't put a worthwhile product on the floor. The consumer is sharper than to spend money unwisely unfulfilling season after unfulfilling season. Miles is on notice, listen to sports radio. Thats the consumer speaking. No one is ready to jump ship but they don't want to see a repeat of this next season. Personally I dont care if Petteway turns pro and Watson and Morrow redshirt next season and Nebraska has a losing season, I just want to see a coach who calls plays his players can execute and develop players (as well as recruit}. They all can't be that bad.

Like Seve told fellow Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger after a Ryder Cup dispute,"Let's treat this like bad toilet water and flush it." The same should apply to this season. Help is on the way. Miles is on notice. Nebraska has too much to offer in terms of facilities and fan base for back-to-back seasons like this one.

Plenty of blame to go around, from Miles getting a T with the score tied 5-5, to Miles unable to reel TP from going out of shot-control especially at the start of the game, {Please dont blame an expiring shot clock this game}, not setting up more plays for Shields, and sorry free-throw shooting. This was a winnable game!!!

What's the story on Omaha North's Patton going to Creighton?
golfer3 replied to bkamler's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We didnt get Patton, but we got T Smith, Watson and Morrow, which CU wanted. Can't win all . -
Regardless what anybody thinks.....

Some may say giving Collier and Sadler six years did not work. Why give Miles that long? I don't feel Miles is on the hot seat this season. Hopefully he hasn't lost the team. If he has lost the team and they lose out, then everyone is going to be watching next season. Still if they play hard from start to finish next season, finish near .500 and get another 4-star recruit, he deserves to be back for another year. If he loses the team for two years in a row, maybe its time for him to consider a career on Comedy Central -
Please recall that the non-conf schedule that Doc assembled was much easier. The comparison between Tim & Doc after the NEXT 3 years will be of great interest.... Incarnate Word you must be talking about. Collier left Doc with about the worst roster you could ask for, outside of Maric.
-
Please recall after 3 years Docs record was 55-47, Miles currently at 47-46. Miles has a bigger budget and much nicer facilities than Doc did during most of his career. Just sayin. NU hoops for all practical purposes starts next season with T Smith, Watson and Morrow. What we have been watching is simply patchwork basketball by a patchwork roster.

And everyone has the right to laugh.

Are we now paying the price when Miles didn't earlier fill all the schollies? It seems he should have filled them with offense-skilled players. Or, maybe Miles made a significant misdiagnosis of his team's offensive skills. Get the chains off the locker room and apply to Miles office.

The future of Nebraska basketball is Smith, Marrow and Watson. Maybe White has something to offer, but Im not buying him yet just because he transfers from KU. McVeigh is a question mark. Hope Agau doesnt set foot on campus, Im guessing there is more to him after his suspension last year. If next season's recruiting is half as good as this one we are well on our way.

Bonus Question. How much did NU pay Incarnate Word to play here last night? A. 40K B. 60K C 100K D 50% of the gate. -
After CU played us they had to go double overtime to beat South Dakota. Games like this this happen. Our future is down the road with T Smith, Watson and Morrow. Im not happy about last night, but Im not overly concerned, right now.

It's a bad loss. And we will probably lose next season. The tables should turn the following season. T Smith, two years and the newly-signed recruits will have a year under thier belts. NU could have a better overall season than CU. Pet and Pitch have to get it though. The sooner the better. For now, hats off to CU and the other McD and all the best to UN-O.

Miles best days are ahead. I had major concerns about his recruiting until this class. He hit a grand slam. It looks like he is working hard on the upcoming recruiting class. I feel it will be up and down this year and next. The following season it will all come together, assuming he can land one top-flight recruit each year.

Twice In The Same Season At CenturyLink
golfer3 replied to golfer3's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Miles saying scheduling UN-O down the road, nothing for certain when. I'd like to see a couple more recruiting classes, like the last, under our belt before we go at them again. In all fairness UN-O win over Marquette was a big one, but Marquette under-achieved last season and have a new coach this season. Barely won over a no- name east coast team last night. -
Twice In The Same Season At CenturyLink
golfer3 replied to golfer3's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
There has been talk about a holiday tournament rotating between Lincoln and Omaha with UN-L,UN-O, Creighton and another team. Some have tossed cold water on it because of the possibilty of UN-L and Creighton playing twice in the same season. -
Twice In The Same Season At CenturyLink
golfer3 replied to golfer3's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It may not be home and home. Hopefully that is the case. Would hate to see a game at CenturyLink and UN-O has a ticket give away and 18K plus fans show up. Of course nothing says the majority would be UN-O fans. -
All for UN-L playing our little sister, Creighton, and our little brother,UN -O during the same season. However, it could be a bear trap if we play them both at the CenturyLink. Next season UN-O plays in thier new 9k arena. But Im not aware of anything that would keep them from playing UN-L at the CenturyLink. Oklahoma said the CenturyLink crowd forced them out of thier rythym. Other teams say the CenturyLink is a professional atmosphere arena. We are doing UN-O a favor by scheduling them, no need to give them an undue advantage by playing at the CenturyLink.
-
Rhode Island has decent teams from time to time. Not shocked by this loss. One thing about the loss, it gets our attention before we play UN-O. Much sooner loose to Rhode on the road, rather than UN-O at home. We could smoke Creighton if we have it together. Probably a close game, glad we are playing here.

Best recruiting class we have had in years. Pleased!!!!!!!
