DMVHusker Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Was looking at the updated RPI rankings and saw that we are currently at number 73, ahead of teams such as Iowa and Wisconsin. I am not sure how we are ranked ahead of Wisconsin after losing to them. Our Strength of Schedule is 22nd also. Quote
unl Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 SOS shouldn't be much of a problem this year... Where'd we rank last season? Quote
tcp Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 KenPom's more accurate and he's got us at around 190-ish right now. That passes the eyeball test. Quote
49r Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 I'm assuming you're looking at RealTimeRPI? I'm not sold on that one for the simple reason that they have Colorado ranked #7. This is a team that is 0-2 in the PAC and has losses at Wyoming and by 36 at Kansas. There's no way Colorado is anywhere near the top 10 in reality. I agree with tcp, KenPom is more realistic. Also, FWIW, in the KenPom rankings we've been moving pretty steadily up in the last couple weeks, I'd imagine that after tonight we may break into the 170's and slip ahead of Penn State. Quote

nebrasketball10 Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Shatel used RealTime RPI in his article the other day to demonstrate that there's no such thing as a "mid-major" in basketball anymore (there was a high number of mid-majors in the top 25). RPI is a joke this time of year. Or any time of year until the end. Even then... Quote

husker8282 Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 50 percent of the RPI is the average winning percentage of your opponents. This is how the RPI can be manipulated and Tim Miles has been very good at doing this (although I don't think he really did it on purpose this year). Tulane is 10-3 and they are really helping our RPI quite a bit even though we know they aren't really all that good. We have played only 2 teams with an RPI above 200 and only 2 teams with a losing record. Our strength of schedule is 20th, and I think while we have played a pretty tough schedule, it has not truly been the 20th toughest. Quote
Ralph Wiggum Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 According to this site, our SOS is only going to go up as the season goes on (to 10th). And, as expected, our RPI will go down (to 127th or so). http://www.rpiforecast.com/ Quote
