Prospect Nation is saying we recently had top Australian point guard Rachel Anton (2015) from South Melborne visit Lincoln a week ago with no decision made yet. They claim she's a four star player in their rating system, and as per usual with Aussie players, practically no information is out there on this kid. I'm guessing this is the player Gray/Miller went down and tried to recruit here last winter. Sounds like Wake Forest is after this kid too. We'll see if we can't drum up more information on this one. Sounds like a good one!

Here's a couple of articles written the past six months on Aussie recruit Rachel Anton aka Rachel Antoniadou .

Big year ahead for Rachel

The 17-year-old guard from Ripplebrook represented Australia at the Pacific Championships, held this year in Wellington, New Zealand.

Antoniadou played a significant role in the tournament, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, including 10 points in the grand final to help Australia best New Zealand Maori 74-54 to take the gold.

In a WNBL minute

“She trains hard every single session so it was great to get her in and hopefully it’s the beginning of something special for her.”
Antoniadou is now in attendance at the first Basketball Australia Development Camp in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport.

In reality this actually was closer to a done deal for the Huskers than first thought.

Antoniadou was strongly considering the University of Nebraska – Lincoln after visiting their campus earlier this month, but it was a timely phone call from the Florida St coaching staff that put the Seminoles in consideration for the speedy point guard’s services.

She spoke with us about her decision, and what she hopes to achieve in her time at FSU.

I was considering Nebraska, and after my visit there I got a phone call at the airport from

FSU offering me a scholarship and I thought, ‘why not check it out?’.

As a small point guard who excels at playing at a fast pace, as well as knocking down shots from the perimeter, Antoniadou cited the style of play – as well as the ‘small town feel’ – as something that played a significant role in her decision.

I ended up choosing FSU as I felt it was the school that was best suited to both my personality and style of play. The Seminoles play a fast game, and Tallahassee has a small town feel, which made it somewhere I could definitely see myself, coming from a small country town!

i hope with shimmy leaving, it hasn't put the "kabosh" on her recruitment. i like what i see.

I say yes...it probably had a substantial effect on the situation. You see it all the time where a coach leaves and the recruit looks elsewhere.

The coaching change has to have hurt us in the short term at least. Hope our new recruiting coach has hit the ground running...big time.

Concur, she visited a few weeks ago when Gray Miller (her primary NU contact) was packing and on her way to Florida, so that absence most likely had somewhat of an effect on her. Our coaching change could throw somewhat of a loop into what we have now for the 2016 class with some of the recruits but is what it is and I wouldn't think it would have too much of an effect going forward once all recruits have been updated with the changes and things get back to normal down at the Hendricks center. I hope anyway. I doubt we sign any other 2015 recruit or recruits this late in the game.

The more I find out about our new recruiting coordinator Britney Brown the more I like! A young, vibrant coach with good contacts in Texas. Now that she has that N on her chest it can only help her in getting other contacts with quality aau programs and players from all across the nation.
