Jessica Shepard is on the Naismith Girls Player of the Year Watch List

Jessica Shepard joins the top 20  players in the nation on the Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List announced Tuesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

 

I think she's averaging about 33 pts/game this year...

 

...it's tough to wait another season for her to be in the red and white !

The Mater Dei team is loaded with talent. Will be interesting to see how Jess holds up.

I expect a tough game for Fremont.  Jess will be double-teamed, maybe even triple-teamed.  The rest of the girls will really need to step up.  I think Jess has been over 50% of their offense every game so far this year (and probably last year as well).  Jess' younger sister played some yesterday and did some good things.  I believe Riley Jensen had 10 points, so of the 57 points scored, Jess + Riley had 48 of them.  Somebody else needs to be able to score and help out today.

I stand corrected - Fremont scored 54 points and Jess and Riley accounted for 48 of those points.

12-12 at the end of the 1st.  Mater Dei committed 6 fouls by about the 4 minute mark in the first quarter.  Want to say all but 1 were trying to stop Jess.  Believe she has 6 points.  Another girl from Fremont has knocked down a couple of 3s.

Shep is being double teamed and still has half of the points so far.  it is 12 up the other points have come from two different players both hitting treys.

Tied 18-18 with 4:06 left in half.  Fremont in double bonus.

Fremont down 23-19 with 52 seconds left in half.  Mater Dei has way better outside shooters than Fremont.  Someone else needs to consistently find their shot for Fremont.  Jess being triple teamed now, hard to get a pass into her.

Fremont down 28-20 at half.  Too bad Fremont can't hit their free throws.  I can't watch much longer, so the updates won't be coming very often.

56-44 Fremont down with about 90 seconds left in half.  Jess with 4 fouls.  Not sure how many points she has.

Fremont loses 59-44.  Unofficially, Jess with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  I guess it takes three D1 recruits on defense to keep her from scoring over 30.

They were surrounding her like a pack of wolves!!! They would of won by 10 if anyone else on the team could of made the open 3's they were all getting.... BTW Samuleson is damn good!!! She will be the next UConn great after Stewie!!! Her stroke is amazing...

I believe Fremont had pulled to within 10, but then had to commit some fouls.  All in all, I would say they hung with them pretty good, better than I expected.  Knock down a few more of those early free-throws and a few more of those open looks and this could have been much more competitive at the end.  They had a 5'8" girl guarding Samuelson (who I believe is 6'3").  Not sure how many points Samuelson had.
