B1G in the Big Dance

The Big Ten has 5 teams that made the NCAA tournament. Iowa, Michigan St, Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue.  Right now the B1G is sitting at 4-0 in the first round with Iowa yet to play tonight.

 

Penn State had their hands full just escaping a tough Wichita St team 62-56 on their home court. The Nittany Lions didn't look too good. I have Penn State making it the furthest in the bracket but after watching them today I have my doubts. They now go up against Florida Tuesday.

 

Michigan St cruised to a 91-61 win over Hampton. Their next game is against North Carolina, Tuesday.

 

Purdue beat Akron St 94-55 yesterday and now play OK State on their home court tomorrow.

Purdue whose coach likes to brag on how they continually lead the B1G in attendance only had 3,342 fans show up yesterday.

 

Maryland who joins the conference next year is a 4 seed and beat Army 90-52.

They're at it again, Purdue offering students free pizza and tickets for tomorrows game against OK State in an effort to get fans in the arena!

 

Pretty bad that a school has to do that to get butts in the seats when they claim they get 8000 in th seats on a regular basis.

Iowa gives the B1G a 5-0 record in the first round with a 87-65 win over Marist. They meet the Louisville Cardinals Tuesday night.

 

Actually the B1G is 11-0 in post season play if you count the WNIT.

I've laughed before at the free pizza and other promotions but I'd like to see Nebraska do something in an attempt to get more students to the games. Obviously, Nebraska will get great fan support without extra stuff like that. I just want to see more students there. It really makes a dramatic difference.

 

I watched pieces of the Iowa, MSU and Penn State games. Penn State I thought was in serious trouble. Lucas had the pouty/bad body language going on in the piece of the first half I watched. She stood around on offensive end while being faceguarded and PSU basically played a 4v4 game. IIRC, they did that vs. us in the first half of the game at PBA this season. Glad I'm not a PSU fan, because that would drive me bananas.

937 people at Pauley Pavilion.  That's embarrassing.  I don't like the home floor sits but it seems that is what is needed to get attendance for the early rounds.  Please, I hope more than 937 show up at PBA.  UConn will probably bring that many.

LA teams never have attendance at regionals. Even if it's one of their teams playing an NCAA tourney there. Their fans talk about how there's "just too much to do" in L.A. aside attending a game. Pretty sad.

Penn State is the only B1G team remaining standing. They meet 2 seed Stanford on Stanford's home court. Should they win that one, the winner of 1 seed South Carolina/North Carolina awaits. Okie State beat Purdue, Michigan St lost to North Carolina and Iowa more less rolled over for Louisville.

I didn't think MSU would pose much of a threat to No Carolina.

Well we can put a wrap on the B1G season. Penn St the last Big Ten team standing lost their bid to advance to the Elite 8 by getting thrashed by Stanford 82-57.

 

It''s been a wild ride this year, kind of what I expected I guess. I do think the Huskers were one of the top 15 teams in the nation and I'm not as disappointed now as I was a week ago that we didn't get to play in the Sweet 16 in PBA.

 

Our future looks really bright and with this recruiting class coming in, games are certainly going to be competitive, entertaining and fun next year in PBA. Here's to hoping we get another 4 seed or better next year as the top 16 seeds get to host the first round of the big dance.

It''s been a wild ride this year, kind of what I expected I guess. I do think the Huskers were one of the top 15 teams in the nation and I'm not as disappointed now as I was a week ago that we didn't get to play in the Sweet 16 in PBA.

 

Our future looks really bright and with this recruiting class coming in, games are certainly going to be competitive, entertaining and fun next year in PBA. Here's to hoping we get another 4 seed or better next year as the top 16 seeds get to host the first round of the big dance.

Hopefully with a deeper bench they can go a little further, But I guess that depends on how the freshmen develop.
