tbowman Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Gallegos didn't take a single 3-pointer against Iowa. Not even sure he took a shot. What is up with that? I guess I could be way off base, but I want him shooting. NU needs him shooting. He can light it up when he's on on a team that is having a heck of a time scoring. Do you blame Gallegos? Or do you blame coaching? For me, it's coaching. Gallegos is a spot up shooter and is not very good at creating his own shots. I saw almost no attempt whatsoever at any player on the team looking to get him the ball when he was in the game. I see the improvement, but I'm still seeing some signs of selfishness on the team. Lots of guys wanting their shots ahead of players who should be shooting. Again, I could be way off base, but I think Miles and the team need purposefully look for ways to get Ray some shots early in games to see if he is on. Quote
dt14smoke Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Why was it difficult for Ray Gallegos to get off shots tonight? I do not know if you read what Fran had said, but Ray made seven three point shots here last year, and Fran said, “We are going to pick him up once he gets off the bus.” And they did. Pretty much sums it up Quote
hal9000 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 I would say that In the Iowa game, it seemed to me that teammates weren't really looking for him. Our guards weren't looking to kick it back out on the drive all that much. And I can think of one time in particular when Pitchford got the ball on the shoulder with a defender approaching, and Gallegos was wide open on the wing. One extra pass would have gotten it to him, but Pitch put up a contested 3 which missed. Now, was Gallegos not doing enough to get himself open? Did TM try to run any designed plays to get him open? I don't know. Quote
nuhusker7 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but last year it seemed as though we had off the ball screens just about every possession, a lot of Rays looks (or his better looks) were coming off of these screens, this year it doesn't seem to be the case. I'm not sure if this is the case of us running more in the regular motion offense and not as much set offense, or if this is just a case of more guys on our time looking to attack the basket themselves. Thoughts? Quote

Thoughts? Miles addressed this after the Cincinnati game. Said Ray is a better shooter "one-twoing" into the shot after a kickout than coming off a screen. It is deliberate that they aren't creating as many shots for Ray off of screens. Now, why we couldn't get him more kickouts in the Iowa game is beyond my paltry x and o level, but I suspect Iowa's defensive scheme had something to do with it. Quote
Huskerpapa Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Two 3's in the first four minutes of todays game... Quote
hal9000 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Two 3's in the first four minutes of todays game... Then none after that. I'm not even sure he attempted a 3 in the second half. We need him to keep shooting. Quote
hugh42 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 It seemed Ray was standing around quite a bit on offense. Even had teammates telling him where he needed to be on the floor at times during the first half. Quote
