hskr4life Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 The way Creighton shot the ball last night, they would of beat a lot of people. Combine that with the fact that we did not play good O for the first 10 mins and that is what got us down so big. If Creighton is not hitting shot after shot, then it is a completely different ball game. Disagree with everyone that says they slowed down in the second half. Sure they ran a little clock, but they were just not hitting shots like they were in the first half. When we started actually playing, we got back into it. Were we ever going to win it, probably not, but as I have said before. Do not discredit the guys for actually playing hard until the end. Silverbacked1 1 Quote
throwback Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 I'm normally a "burn the tape" and forget it with a game like that, but I think a young team could gain something from playing like NU did in the 2nd half. That doesn't excuse falling behind like we did nor does it excuse losing, but being able to shake off the early disaster and have some success likely will help the team down the road. Maybe the next time they start slowly, they're able to shake it off more quickly because of the way they played the final 25 min Sunday. CU certainly didn't have the same intensity after the first 15 min, but having some success against CU starters in until the final minute doesn't hurt either. Having some successes over the final 25 min, even though the game was lost much earlier than that, absolutely beats the alternative of just giving up because it's "garbage time" as soon as you're down big, and then you end up losing 90-40 or not trying on defense in the 2nd half and turning it into an AND1 game and lose 120-90. Although the 120 pts likely would be worth super-size Runzas, so there is one advantage to that strategy. If NU was starting 3 seniors and 2 juniors, I'd burn the tape and the game was a worthless exercise. But when you have only one senior playing, I think there is no such thing as "garbage time" - young players need a variety of experiences before they can improve. Some of those experiences will be great, like the FGCU game, and some will be a train wreck. But there's always something to learn. Through all of those experiences, you hope they eventually mature to the point that they can avoid the train wreck. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted December 10, 2013 Report Posted December 10, 2013 throwback, they can burn the tape or whatever, but I guarantee you come next December there are some kids in Lincoln who will remember the sting of the experience they had in Omaha in 2013, it's burned into their brains, and they're going to want to administer some payback.
