It's nice validation for Ray and all the hard work he put in during his redshirt season to see that, so far, he's the unanimous vote getter to start at off-guard.

It also might be a reflection that there's no obvious challenger.  Webster is thought of, I think, more as a point.  Biggs is obviously considered more of a point.  Petteway has the length and athleticism to play the 3 and maybe not the shooter you'd want to have at the 2 (and the hope is that Ray's percentages go up this year.)  And Hawkins doesn't have a lot of buzz at this early stage of things.

But, no matter how you slice it, it's certainly a vote of confidence for Ray that he has substantial support like that.

I almost went with Biggs here (I see him playing the 2 when he and Webster are on the floor at the same time), but I just couldn't pull the trigger.  Ray will get most of the minutes at the 2, but Biggs should be able to attack the rim when he plays this spot.

Biggs' strength is his athleticism.  But Ray is even more athletic.

Biggs could potentially be a solid option at the 2 spot IF he worked as hard during his redshirt year as Ray did to improve his shooting.

We won't really know until the bullets start flying for real and that will answer a lot of questions.  But I can see why you'd almost pull the trigger for Biggs.  Last we saw of them both, Biggs would for sure have had an advantage over Ray in his ability to attack the rim.  And we'll miss not having that from Talley.

I don't doubt that Ray is more athletic than Biggs...but I'd venture a guess to say Biggs has more "basketball athletic" ability than Ray.  By that I mean I think Biggs has quicker feet and hands.  His quick feet (and better handles) should allow Biggs to get to the rim with considerably more frequency than Ray has shown in the past (as we both agree with).  He's also proven to be a pretty solid thief (at least in CC), right?  Ray's got springs, for sure, and can play a ton of minutes, but I think Biggs will be a better overall player when their times are done.

I hope you're right because that means we're upgrading the talent.  Which is what we need.
