Not a huge surprise, but sounds like we're going to be spending a lot of time out west in our 2025 schedule.

 

Sounds like we're playing a tough tournament in Arizona to open the season Feb. 14-ish and we'll have road trips to USC and UCLA in league (not sure exactly when). We also may have another weekend trip out to the state of California for a non-con series. Hope we're flying charter for at least a couple of the trips.

 

Some talk that Oregon St is coming to Lincoln for a non-con series - not sure if it's midweek or weekend. 

 

Sounds like we'll have a couple more tough B1G road series in addition to USC/UCLA, although it sounds like we're going to miss playing Oregon entirely.

 

With 10 conference weekends now, we only get 4 non-con weekends, and it sounds like we're scheduling up. If it all comes together, I think it'll easily be the toughest schedule we've had under Bolt. Good thing we get some bonuses in RPI for playing on the road, but still got to win some of them. I think this team is going to be ready for the challenge - it's a good time to schedule up.

 

They should be announcing the official schedule sometime this month.

Also, we're playing Wichita in a fall exhibition at Haymarket Park Sept. 21 at 1 pm - Red/White series is Oct 11-16, but taking Oct 13 off - times announced later.

Good news to have NU playing out west as much as possible. That should help our squad in the long run.

This is a big deal if it works out this way - I figured the B1G would hamstring baseball and not let them go to 34 full scholarships. If you want to be at all competitive nationally, though, you have to do 34. And the B1G has the money.

 

This actually is a great opportunity for the northern schools to make a big jump forward vs the smaller southern schools. The B1G is never going to outdo the SEC and southern half of the ACC, but by having 34 scholarships with all the benefits, B1G teams can jump past AAC, Big West, and C-USA teams - and maybe some teams in the Big XII - that they're behind now.  Anything that makes the B1G in particular and the north in general more competitive is good for the game.

 

And I doubt everyone in the B1G will do 34, so this is potentially a key advantage for NU going forward both nationally and in the league.

Our B1G opener sounds like it will be at home vs Washington Mar 7-9 (week 4 of the season) - it'll be iffy whether we can play at home that early. 2024, 2023, and 2018 we were able to play non-con games at home in Week 4, but couldn't play home games in 2022 and 2019 in Week 4. We'll see if the B1G has some contingency plans in place to move games around in Week 4 or if they just get canceled. 

 

Starting to look like the B1G isn't going to hold conference series in the first 3 weekends at West Coast sites - it looks like everyone will start league play in week 4 and everyone will have one bye and 10 conference series sometime from Weeks 4 thru 14.

 

Also sounds like we're staying in Cali for all of spring break (Mar 17-23) and will play USC or UCLA on the weekend before spring break, play a mid-week at a mid-major Cali school and play USC or UCLA on the weekend to close out spring break. We'll see if that's how it shakes out.

 

Could be a challenging start to B1G play. Even tho UW, USC, and UCLA were all down last year, I can't imagine they'll stay down for long.

They set the exhibition for 16 innings Saturday vs Wichita, but the weather looks awful for baseball this weekend, including Sunday. If needed, they might try to push it back a week, but we'll see. NU isn't planning to throw anyone for more than 1 inning regardless, so pushing it back a week shouldn't affect the pitchers for the rest of fall practice, at least on our end. It just worked out so well to play this weekend with no NU football on Saturday. Oh well.

Those 5 B1G road trips are really tough.

 

And don't sleep on the trip to Louisiana - they're a very good program. That'll be a nice RPI boosting series if we can win it down there.

 

We'll have a good team, but we'll have to earn it with that schedule. Normally, I'd say 42-ish wins to have any shot at hosting a regional. They might get a look as a host with 37-38 wins this year.
