I'm somewhat skeptical on this one. One recruiting service has her as the 10th best prospect out of Tennessee with players ranked higher than her going to such places as Belmont and Lipscomb and she doesn't scratch their top 150 list, the other doesn't even mention her. The World Herald says she's a high 3 star according to ESPN, not sure they know that ESPN shut their recruiting services down over almost a year ago. I sure hope this turns out all right and isn't a bad omen that Miss Romeo might not be headed this way.

Row 6,

Not really sure the two are related.  Miss Cincore is a combo guard and Miss Romeo is a point.  On paper the biggest need is a one as we have no real back-up for Miss Theriot and it is still our biggest need on paper.  We had room for a one and which ever recruit Connie loves, which at this point I assume is Miss Cincore.  A little surprised it wasn't a big, but I still see it as all good.

Caveman, I'm hoping the Huskers are still in the running for Natalie R as we still have 4 scholarships that we can use, and for all I know Jasmine C. could turn out to be a diamond in the rough and battle for B1G freshman of the year. I'm hoping her low ranking from recruiting services is the result of not evaluating her thoroughly these past few years.

Jasmine Cincore turned a weakness into a strength, and that’s the biggest reason she’ll play for Nebraska women’s basketball in two years.

Cincore, a 5-8 combo guard from Briarcrest Christian High School near Memphis, has made an oral commitment to Nebraska for the class of 2014. The junior averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals a game in leading her team to a 27-2 record in 2012-13. For her efforts, she was named Tennessee's Miss Basketball for Division 2-AA.

Her high school coach, Lee Smith, said early in her career Cincore struggled with outside shooting.

That’s not a problem anymore.

“I thought at one point her jump shot might be her weakness,” Smith said. “She worked hard and has proven that’s not going to be a weak point for her. I think she fits in really well at Nebraska. At this point I’m not sure they realize what kind of player they’re really getting. She’s not afraid to lead and she wants to be challenged. Their style of play -- getting up and down the floor, playing hard on the defense end -- those are the things Jas has been taught to do here at Briarcrest.”

The Husker coaching staff first saw Cincore play last summer. The recruiting effort was led by assistant coach Shimmy Gray-Miller.

“The coaching staff can definitely develop me as a player and a person,” Cincore said. “They had everything that I wanted school-wise. I want to major in broadcast communications. They had a real family feel. It felt like home.”

Last season the Briarcrest Saints took a 26-game winning streak into the state playoffs before falling in the semifinals. Cincore plays AAU ball with Team Tennessee Glory and was a 2012 Elite Basketball Academy Fab Five Camper.

“She’s a very fine basketball player,” Smith said. “Nebraska’s getting a better person than they are a basketball player, to tell you the truth. She’s a combo guard who can play the point. She’s very strong, a good decision maker on the floor and she’s tough. In my opinion, Jasmine is a very intelligent basketball player.”

Cincore said she also considered offers from Michigan, Kansas State, Georgia State, Auburn, Memphis and Clemson.

According to her coach she is a diamond in the rough. So I guess time will tell.

As usually is the case on getting information on Canadian players is like finding a needle in a haystack. But here is a little information (although about a month old) on Kia Nurse the 6' Transway Canada point guard the Huskers have their eyes on.

Kia Nurse has been selected to showcase her skills and play with the Canadian Senior Women’s National Basketball team (SWNT).

Earning a spot on the team is a huge feat for Nurse who still only finishing up her Junior year of high school. And, while the Class of 2014 Guard is still undecided about where she will complete her post secondary education, the list of interested schools looking to attain her services will undoubtedly continue to grow in this, her most anticipated summer.

And it looks like Mariya Moore the 6' guard out of Salesian High School in Hercules, CA who the Huskers were interested in now has an offer list and the Huskers aren't on it.

Just like the weather in Nebraska wait a little bit and it will change........as Mariya Moore now has the Huskers back on her list of offers. According to Full Court she now has a new and impressive offer list consisting of  Louisville, Kentucky, USC, Arizona, Washington, UCLA, California, Tennessee, Nevada, Nebraska and Duke.

A new name has surfaced recently from the Pacific Northwest. Brittany McPhee (2014) a 5' 11 forward from Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, Washington has the Huskers in her final 4 along with Stanford, Arizona St, and Gonzaga. Last year as a sophomore she averaged 22.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and 2.6 blocks per game. Named 2013 Gatorade Player of the year in Washington. One recruiting service has her ranked as the 55th best player in the class another has her as the 49th. The next two quotes are from two different recruiting services.

Brittany McPhee has medium-thin build; may need to add some bulk at next level; good rebounder for her size being quick off her feet; scores primarily by going to the basket and via mid-range jumper; has 3-point shot but not her strongest skill; runs the court well and has good vision in the open court; was Gatorade Player of Year in Washington as sophomore.

McPhee is arguably the most consistent scoring guard in the Pacific Northwest finding a variety of ways to put the basketball in the bucket.

McPhee has maintained a 4.00 GPA in the classroom. In addition to serving as a student ambassador at the Inter-high leadership conference, she has donated her time as a youth basketball and soccer instructor.

"Brittany is the best basketball player in our state in my opinion," said Terry Johnson, head coach at Auburn Riverside High. "What is most impressive about Brittany is that she is very unassuming on the court, but then you look at her stats at the end of the game and her numbers are consistently impressive. But she doesn't look to get her own statistics at the expense of her team. She just plays to win. Since I have been coaching at Riverside, she is the most difficult player we have had to deal with in terms of matchups."

That was the question facing Brittany McPhee, the reigning Gatorade state player of the year in Washington, two years ago, when she had to choose between her teenage passions.

On the one hand, McPhee was a successful model. First noticed at age 13 by a modeling agency while she was walking through a shopping mall, she quickly learned the camera loved her. By the time she was ready for high school, she had already adorned the pages of Vogue and Teen Voque and Macy's catalogs.

On the other hand, McPhee -- now a 6-foot junior wing at Mount Rainier (Des Moines, Wash.) -- had an innate ability on the basketball court. Her father, Bryce, played with John Stockton at Gonzaga in the early '80s. Her mother, Alice, played at Eastern Washington before exploring a professional league in Australia. In the next generation, more ballers emerged. First, two older brothers. And then fraternal twins Jordan and Brittany.

Just to piggy back on to the previous post I found this little gem to clarify it more. Hopefully we can get her on campus the for the UCLA football game.

2014 Stand out point guard Natalie Romeo has narrowed her list of schools to seven. Romeo has included St. Mary's College, Oregon, Utah, Louisville, Boston College, Nebraska and Oregon State.  Natalie's plan include some official visits this fall before making her final decision.

Romeo will take the rest of the summer off from playing basketball due to her knee sprain, but will travel to South Carolina WITH THE TEAM for Nike Nationals. Romeo sprained her knee in a scary moment in Oregon City. Fortunately, her MCL was only sprained and will be only miss six weeks and WILL BE HEALTHY for the start of her senior campaign at Carondelet High School.

o.k. row 6.  we need a ball handler and it is quite obvious Miss Romeo is the apple of your.  i do understand Miss Romeo, her manorisms and savvy are very Lindseyesk.  my question is this, we have a bunch of larger guards on the line Miss Nurse, Miss McPhee, Miss Moore etc...., which one do we have the best shot at and which one is the apple of your eye there? all of them seem excellent to me, though not much information on Nurse is available.

Posted

I like them all but I think the one we have the best shot at, is the McPhee kid from the Seattle area but she is a forward. She no doubt knows all about what fellow Seattle area player Lindsey Moore accomplished here and that most likely has given the Huskers a very popular name in that area. Although Gonzaga might be a player here as her dad played for the Zags along side John Stockton twenty some years ago.  I also think we have an excellent chance of landing Natalie Romeo.  If we could get both of these to come here to go along with Kaylee Page it would be our best recruiting class since 1974.

I really like Natalie because she's a good ball handler and can shoot the ball from what I can gather on her. I think it will come down to between us and Utah. I think the Nurse and Moore girls will most likely choose someone else.  Who knows we may wind up with none of them. What do think and who do you like caveman?

By the way the Huskers have an offer out (but I really don't know how serious they are about it) for 6'4 Mandy Coleman from Stockton CA. Only thing is she plays guard for her high school team and would most likely have to learn the forward or center position once she gets in college. Most scouting services say she need to develop some speed but for a tall girl she handles the ball well.

i felt Miss Moore was a long shot at best, but then again i thought Miss Page was OSU bound.  i am not really sure, if we were that high on Miss Neubert, since her name has not come up, since last summer.

A thread was started which listed some of the 2014 recruits the Huskers were looking at on the other board so I thought I would start it again over here so as to keep discussion going and to keep us somewhat updated with the future recruits of Husker WBB. Here is the list with a brief description on each and the schools showing interest in them. There will be more added to this list as time goes on no doubt.

Chatrice White (2014) 6'3 post Shelby/Rising City

She has stated that she will make her decision after the end of the Nebraska high school season in March or April. Offered by Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Michigan State and Purdue. Notre Dame and Stanford are showing interest. Committed to Illinois 4-28-13

Tatum Neubert (2014) 6'2 post out of Elizabeth CO.

She's starting to gather looks from other schools out west such as Wyoming, Colorado, Indiana. Kansas St, Boise St. and Stanford. Committed to Oregon 8-1-13

Jasmine Lumpkin (2014) 6' guard out of Joliet Catholic High School, IL.

She essentially landed an offer every 2 days during the month of August, picking up a grand total of 16 offers. Here are the 16 schools that have officially made an offer: Purdue, Michigan State, Louisville, Kansas St, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Marquette, Indiana, Auburn, Ball State, Toledo, Dayton, Wright State, and Arizona State. Committed to Michigan St 5-14-13

Jasmine Cincore (2014) 5'9 combo guard from Briarcrest Christian in Memphis

Has been offered by UAB and has visited Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, UAB, UT Martin and Georgia State. She will visit Ole Miss on Sept. 8th and later this fall will visit Nebraska, Michigan, Florida, Vandy, K-State, Louisville, Marquette, Indiana, and Memphis." Committed to the Huskers 6-20-13

Gabrielle Ortiz (2014) 5'7 guard Racine Prairie WI

Averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season. Is considered by some to be the most talented player in the state of Wisconsin. She has an offer from Nebraska but most likely isn't too hip on it. Has shown most interest in Purdue, Michigan St., Miami, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma.

Haley Lorenzen (2014) a 6'3 forward from Iowa City IA.

She has the Huskers listed as one of the seven schools she is considering. As a sophomore she averaged 13.2 points 5.7 rebounds and had 21 blocks. Could be hard pulling her out of Iowa City though. Along with Nebraska, she has Florida, Iowa St, Northwestern, Louisville, Marquette and obviously Iowa. She took an unofficial visit to Iowa St and visited Florida before that. She is the daughter of former Iowa basketball great Al Lorenzen. Committed to Florida 1-4-13.

Natalie Romeo (2014) 5'8 point guard from Carondelet HS in Concord CA.

Offered by Nebraska over a year ago.  Her junior year, Natalie averaged 21.3 ppg, 6.5 assists, 6.2 steals and 5.6 rebounds per game. She went for 30 or more points five times with a high of 34 against Archbishop Mitty in the Nor Cal playoffs. She also has offers from Arizona, Oregon, USC, Utah, Louisville, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Washington, Boston College among others. Committed to the Huskers 8-1-13

Ivy Brown (2014) 6' forward Larue County HS. Hodgenville, KY

Brown averaged 19.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and she shot 70% from the line and 37% from behind the arc her sophomore year. Interest from many schools including Louisville, St. John’s, Western Kentucky, Miama (FL), Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Indiana, Stanford, Xavier among others.

Kaylee Page (2014) 6'2 forward from Wamego High School KS

Nebraska has been chasing Kaylee for sometime and she has shown some interest in us but that may be all it is. Kaylee is most likely the best recruit to come out of Kansas next year. She took a trip to Oklahoma St two weeks ago and last week was at Stanford. OSU looks to be the favorite right now. Beside the Huskers she also has interest from KU, Colorado and Missouri. We have a better chance to land her sister Lanie who is in the 2015 class and who some consider a better player than Kaylee. Committed to the Huskers  5-15-13

Mariya Moore (2014) 6' guard from Salesian High School in Hercules, CA

Strong power player with inside- out potential. Constantly attacking and not afraid to attack opposing size inside. Can finish around the rim and utilizes the reverse effectively. Will need to refine the perimeter skills. At one time and maybe still is considering Nebraska. Has offers from Vanderbilt, Ohio St, Louisville, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Kentucky, Tennessee, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, California, Arizona St. Oregon St. & Nevada and now Nebraska again. Committed to Louisville 7-31-13

Erykah Davenport (2014) 6'2 center from Tucker High School in Tucker, GA a suburb of Atlanta.

Davenport is a high BCS prospect who has already received offers from Georgia State and Central Florida, and is getting a lot of attention from BCS schools such as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Texas A&M, Nebraska and Purdue.

Charise Holloway (2014) 5'9 forward from St. Mary's High School in Stockton, CA. Strong player capable of putting up huge numbers on any given night. Her game has an advanced element of "power" and she's an exceptional leaper. Has offers from UNLV, Hawaii, Utah, Nebraska and Mississippi and garnering a lot of attention from Michigan, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arizona St, Washington St, Memphis, Seton Hall, plus many more.

Kia Nurse (2014) 6' guard from St. Thomas More HS in Hamilton, Ontario. Has played for the Ontario National team for several years now. Lead the Canadian U17 team to a Bronze Metal with a win over Japan at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships. Has garnered much interest from the B1G. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn St. among many others.

Brittany McPhee (2014) 5'11 forward from Mt. Rainier HS in Des Moines, WA. Has Nebraska, Stanford, Arizona St and Gonzaga in her final four for colleges. Last season averaged 22.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 2.8 assists and 2.6 blocks per game as a junior and was named the Gatorade Player of the year in Washington.

Row6, if you could have picked your top 3 out of this list (and any other names that came up in this thread), who would you have chosen?

Tough question Norm. My first pick would have been our first verbal Kaylee Page from Kansas. I've somewhat kept up with her high school career since she was a freshman and every year she had fans down south salivating hoping she would pick their favorite school. I didn't think the Huskers had much of a chance with her but our persistence finally paid off in the end. From what I can gather she can do it all.

I think my second would have been a toss-up between Mariya Moore and Natalie Romeo. We needed to get someone in here to replace Lindsey and be able to come in and demand minutes right away and pick up somewhat where Lindsey left off. I think both of these could have done just that.

I would have picked Jasmine Lumpkin as my third. That is until recently we found out that we're one of the finalist on Seattle area post player Brittany McPhee's list. I've been reading up on her and she looks to be all that and then some. I actually thought we had a better chance at landing Lumpkin though than Kaylee and Natalie.

I never really was on board with the White girl from Shelby although having another Nebraska kid on the roster sounds appealing.

Who's yours?

I found this little bit of info on Kia Nurse.

It’s not often you see the college crowd grow in size for an already well known prospect over the course of a single event but that’s just what happened each time Canada Drive and combo 2014 guard Kia Nurse took the floor in D.C.  At 6-0, the Hamilton, Ontario native is skilled, knowledgeable and more so than anything…productive.  Her ability to create is not limited just to shots nor is it on display only in halfcourt play.  From makes, misses and turnovers she’s pushing the ball with vision and court concepts that few on the high school level can call upon.  The ball skills are sharp and the acceleration is exceptional on any move that she might make.  Nurse navigates traffic like a D.C. cab driver and can score at the rim or adeptly pull up anywhere from the 5 to 10 foot range on a dime.  Additionally, her relentless attack often leads to simple opportunities for her or her teammates when opponents make the mistake of relaxing even for a second.  She’s very active on the defensive end and anticipates in a manner that says she’s been well coached.  Easily one of the premier performers of this event or any other this summer.
