What Programs are most like our Football/basketball team's fan perception

Thought I would start a new thread just to quit pondering what "punching the ticket" actually means. Unfortunately I am ending 2016 with  a horrible cough/headach/anorexia/aching syndrome which is my first significant illness in a half dozen years. I'm going into internist today to see if antibiotics are needed. Meanwhile sleeping and watching sports have been my lot since Monday. The cough kept me up last night and I compared our football and basketball programs to suitable matches. 1. Football matches up with Arkansas well. Enthusiastic fan base (Sooey) who refuse to accept the team is now mediocre. Never seem to win crucial games on the big stage. No other program in state to compete with. Get enough quality players to make fans think that they will compete for national title with just a few breaks. Typical fan comment " we would have won that one if Broyles were still our coach". 2. Basketball matches, obviously, with Northwestern. However, I opted for Colorado since they have had more football success, and despite some excellent players have never been in contention for a national title. Again, they are the only significant college game in town, but never seem to get over the basketball hump once they leave the mountains. Typical fan comment " Ummh you wouldn't happen to have a bag of those Cheetos would you? Now what was that question again?"

@jimmykc I think those two are perfect analogs.  I've always felt that the current era of Colorado basketball is eerily similar to our Nee years.

Just thinking a bit out loud, I think our football/basketball program is similar to USC.
