  1. Great defensive teams don't do well in the tournament. Or at least that's the criteria I use when I fill out my perfect bracket every year. ?
  2. We've had a miss every year we didn't fill our roster too. I'm starting to think having an involved athletic director isn't the worst thing ever. In the NBA it is almost universally excepted that the coach should not be the GM. I understand its much different because Moos isn't a great basketball mind and the GM has much more to do in the NBA in running the team but maybe this is the right time for the athletic director to make his voice heard. I'm just saying we shouldn't just except that athletic director involvement is a terrible thing without thinking because its always been done that way.
  3. I forgot to post I have a short Risky Roadz Pod on Amir Harris that really takes everything we know and compiles it for your convenience. If you’ve closely followed this thread it’s definitely similar information so don’t expect any insider info or hot takes. But we did break down his shooting form and there might be something that you forgot about or missed so give it a listen.
  4. There are also a lot of events for students this week as school will be starting up and people have to move in on Thursday if they are living in dorms so its good timing.
  5. This video didn't have many highlights. Either he doesn't have many impressive highlights or they picked the wrong plays because I feel like there wasn't anything in there an average high schooler couldn't do. I'm going to assume there's something we aren't seeing. His shooting form looks rough his guide hand is always on top of the ball. I mean if he shoots 40% from 3 that works but I'm not confident he can keep that form.
  6. If you guys would like to hear a summary of the type of player Chan is and how he fits the team as a whole you can search the Risky Roadz Pod in iTunes. I combined research done in the recruiting thread with my thoughts on his highlights to bring you a comprehensive overview of this player so I hope you check it out!
  7. Looking at the numbers I think you're right looks like Jordy had 3.38 rebounds per 10 minutes of playing time while Roby and Copeland had 2.625 and 1.9 respectively. Though he was probably under the basket and in position more often.
  8. Awesome thanks hoping to create what this board is in a version that you can listen to on the go. I think quotes from informative posters could go along way. Anyway in the spirit of not hijacking this thread... I do not think Tanner will play way more than he did last year and am worried about rebounding this year. But not because we lost Jordy who was not an excellent rebounder. I just think we were bad last year and will be again this year because we're still too small. And if we play more zone that will certainly have a negative effect on rebounding.
  9. Hey Dimes I'm recording another episode of The Risky Roadz Pod and I'm talking about Chan and other recruiting news. I really liked this post and really want to incorporate the board into our podcast so I was wondering if your cool with me putting your text into audio form. I know I'm pretty sure I don't legally need to ask but I just wanted to make sure.
  10. I think the reason we're assuming he will play in the post more is simply because much of his film is of him doing post moves and they looked very good. I think the question is if he will not be able to do post and perimeter play equally because of the bigger bodies in the Big Ten. Often times playing small ball can run the other teams traditional posts off the floor with their perimeter play. You can also run plays to get guys like him post touches with good positioning. I wish more players in the NBA did that instead of jacking up threes. For example many people believe this will be the evolution of Lebron's game as he ages. Wade has been doing this his whole career and he's 6-5. Sadly I don't think Miles will do so though we pushed the ball into Jordy so who knows.
  11. Not sure if you understood what my joke was referring to. I was talking about Ndamukong Suh who according to LJS "... surely impressed the NFL coaches, scouts, general managers and all the draft junkies watching on TV and online when he posted a vertical jump of 35 1/2 inches." I'm obviously impressed and excited that he has that type of ability.
  12. Not that Jordy was great at this but if he can't be effective at guarding centers his 5 points will be less important. Though I still believe he is more naturally a 4 and its possible we could play him alongside Copeland or Tanner when they are playing the five.
  13. Love this commitment. The Pardon comparison was 50% about his post moves 50% the fact that he wears a headband and is an undersized center. I like the fact that when he does a post move he fakes to the opposite side like he's going to dropstep the opposite way he ends up going. He's quick enough to make those post-ups where opposing fans say how is he getting these lay-ups all the time. That will turn into the ability to pump fake and get fouled or make the defender jump and hit a cutter coming to the basket as well.
  14. If he doesn't fill in for foul trouble at center then he can play PF/ the 4 and to me that's a more natural position for him. He should be able to guard the four though I don't know. I also actually like the fact that he has few blocked shots. IMO blocked shots and even worse attempted blocked shots that are altered turn into offensive rebounds and easy lay-ups 50% of the time. To me he is a very talented offensively and would be very valuable offensively. Reminds me a bit of Derick Pardon. Defensively I'm not so confident because like all of you have nothing to go off of but numbers.
  15. Well Suh was 285lbs and he jumped 35.5 so... #notimpressed
  16. What do you mean by this a few quick internet and twitter searches have not yielded any news after his top 5 cut.
  17. So were those high school highlights? I assumed he was 2018 my bad.
  18. I very much want this kid obviously we need a center but we have 2 Schollys left and we also need depth in any position as long as they can score. Plus I think he could be an elite player at this level. His ability to finish at the rim is excellent and in my opinion the 2nd most important part of being a good offensive player
  19. Looks like an incredible player the dunks were the most surprising. That shows me he has the athleticism to compete at this level. Not sure how he’s a 2 star that’s way off.
  20. I have a hard time seeing Texas Tech being a top 30 team next year. These guys probably know more than me but they lost their best 2 players in Evans and Smith this year. Of course Smith wasn’t supposed to be a great player last year so maybe they have a great coach but you certainly can’t replace his athleticism and wing span that allowed him to play the four in one of the most unique roles in the NCAA last year. Evans was basically their version of Tyrann P last year so he’s a big loss too.
  21. I’m pretty confused why we aren’t hearing about NU trying to recruit anyone for 2018 right now. Do you guys just think they are doing it quietly? Are they not interested in anybody out there right now and focusing on future classes for now? Are they just going to give a Scholly to Tanner and then wait for a mid season transfer like Copeland or something? I never like to accuse the staff like they aren’t doing anything because I know they have some type of plan that we just don’t know about yet. But, what do you guys think that plan is?
  22. I would say he was more important than Tanner will be if he plays a relatively small role this season which I believe he will. He was also clearly more important than Duby last year alone I mean he started over 15 games last year. I was as critical as anybody about him starting and liked him in his much reduced role much more but he was still an important part of a team that won the most conference games in Nebraska basketball history. On top of that in my opinion he was better as a freshman than as a sophomore. I could have put other guys in the 19-25 range in front of him but certainly not all of them. That group was probably one of the hardest for me to separate. Though if you factored in the fact that he sort of screwed us recruiting wise and assumed he was a distraction in the locker room you which would fit the definition of this list, I very much could agree with you.
  23. To keep from making to many new threads I'll just post about new episodes on this one. We have two new podcasts to share with you guys. One was posted last week as we continued with our player power rankings and briefly discussed Thorir's play in Fiba U20 basketball. I didn't have time to post about that one here because I put it up just before leaving for a camp that I was volunteering at which did not have cell coverage not the time to post on here. But, more importantly we had our first emergency pod today to talk about Jordy leaving the program and where that leaves the program going forward. Make sure to give us 5 stars and subscribe to help others fine the podcast and so you are ready for the upcoming season. If you don't know where to find the podcast they are in my original post. Thanks so much to anyone who's listening! https://twitter.com/RiskyRoadzPod/status/1020744466699874305
  24. Here's my full and updated player power rankings list (to fix clear flaws in the first version and the transfer of Jordy) do you feel that Jordy's contribution to the team in the last 2 years should put him at 18 on this list. 1. James Palmer 2. Shavon Shields 3. Terran Petteway 4. Glynn Watson 5. Isaiah Roby 6. Tai Webster 7. Isaac Copeland 8. Walter Pitchford 9. Andrew White III 10. Ray Gallegos 11. Anton Gill 12. Thomas Allen 13. Evan Taylor 14. David Rivers 15. Ed Morrow 16. Benny Parker 17. Dylan Talley 18. Jordy Tshinmanga 19. Leslee Smith 20. Michael Jacobson 21. Tanner, Borchardt 22. Jack McVeigh 23. Duby Okeke 24. Nana Akenten 25. Andre Almeida 26. Jeremiah Horne 27. Mike Peltz 28. Thorir Thorbjarnason 29. Moses Abraham 30. Tarin Smith 31. Jake Hammond 32. Bakari Evelyn 33. Nick Fuller 34. Nathan Hawkins 35. Deverell Biggs
  25. This is a good hypothesis that I will assume correct. But when it comes to college basketball instead of the NBA when players are obviously closer to there prime. Chances are if kids are dominating high schoolers their senior year they will have a better chance they will have a better ability to do that their in their few years in the NCAA and specifically on your team since kids who are still developing (and not playing often) are likely to transfer. Players drafted into the NBA are drafted so heavily on potential because you can keep at least the rights a player for a guaranteed 7-9 years which probably brings them into their prime (full potential). In college this is obviously much different. I'm just arguing an alternate point that would say these analytics would be less significant in college than the NBA. I still would say that the data is quite relevant in terms of college success as it seems most people would agree.
