  1. Did he only become perfect for their system over the last 24 hours?
  2. Good Lord. I was kind of hoping something like this might happen in a dream world. Just when I've convinced myself to stop drinking the NU baseball Kool-Aid through a funnel and maybe sip it through a straw until next season, they just go ahead and turn on the fire hose. Nobody in the college game teaches the slider as successfully as Childress. Christy has done a very impressive job through 1+ seasons, but NU pitchers who can master Childress' slider will be earning themselves tons more draft money over the next several years. And this just points to the lack of egos in that coaching room. Asking someone to come on board with his level of success nationally and his popularity in Nebraska means this staff wants to win above all else, egos left at the door. A lot of coaching staffs would be very uncomfortable adding someone like this.
  3. Looks like Cam Mack has signed up for the same Degree NIL campaign that Adrian Martinez is doing - weird coincidence since there's only 12 athletes in total on the campaign.
  4. Caught a couple of the recruiting guys on the radio last week - they were talking football, but brought up this exact topic. They laughed and said it's never happened. They usually get the true story off the record from the coaches later. They said they interviewed one kid who NU coaches kicked out of the official visit because of something the kid shouldn't have done, and the kid still tells all the recruiting services how great the visit went. Another time the mom was such a pain in the ass that the coaches pulled the kid's scholarship offer when they were leaving. Kid reported an amazing visit. So to answer your question, no.
  5. Great news for Tominaga, and congrats to him - but I'd have to imagine this makes it tougher for him to be a major contributor at NU this season. Juco players typically struggle that first year anyway, but when he's not here all summer, that has to make it even tougher. Hopefully, since he was probably going to have a very specific role off the bench this first season anyway, maybe missing the summer doesn't set him back too much for that role. Missing the summer probably guarantees he won't be able to contribute much beyond that specific role. As much as I'm sure the coaches would like to have him here on campus, he can't turn down a chance to represent his country in a home Olympics. He was the youngest player on the preliminary roster of 11 by quite a bit, if I remember right, so to make the team as one of the last 4 is a pretty significant accomplishment. I can't say I've watched a ton of 3x3, but I'd imagine that style of play fits his game to a T.
  6. Time to throw this thread even more off topic - I'm pretty sure I went to a Kansas City/Omaha Kings game vs the Spurs in the mid-1970s at the Civic - I was pretty little, but I'm sure the Ice Man was pictured on the game program. The Kings biggest stars then were Sam Lacey and Scott Wedman, maybe Ron Boone played with them by then too (I don't think Tiny was still with the team) so it wouldn't be a surprise that they promoted the opponent more than the Kings players, especially when they played "at home" in Omaha. (To be fair, I don't know how much of a "star" Sam Lacey was, but he was my favorite player. To my tiny brain at that time, the tallest players had to be the best.) They gave all kids an "autographed" Kings basketball - played with that thing everyday in the driveway until I wore off every faux signature.
  7. Caught Mike Sautter on 1620 yesterday - he believes NU will be in it until the end with Traudt because his official visit went so well in Lincoln - that's a waaaaaay different tune than Sautter was using about 12+ months ago.
  8. By the way, Shatel mentioned this morning that the CWS next season is going back toward its more traditional start from many years back, which is amazing news. It'll start on a Friday in 2022 (instead of Saturday) and the championship series will start the following Saturday (instead of the following Monday). No off day before the championship series starts. A long overdue change for fans attending. Dragging it into that 2nd week with the Mon-Wed championship series was a giant pain in the ass, not to mention the idiocy of having the stadium sit empty on a Sunday (and sometimes a Saturday) before the championship series.
  9. Unfortunately, this d-bag loves the negative attention, so the more social media posts that mention how much they hate him, the more he'll feed off it. (Is he Grant Gibbs' long lost uncle? Maybe.) VU fans have talked themselves into believing that his ability to get onto the nerves of other fans is somehow helping their team. They protect & encourage him. It's a sick enablement situation. But in Omaha, all it does is turn neutral fans against VU and give them the Tejas treatment. He had toned it down a bit earlier in the tournament, but now that it's championship time, he's upped his game. It was unbearable last night, especially when the game was out of hand after the 1st inning. Someone needs to invent audio software that will filter out that particular pitch of sound on the broadcast so at least fans at home don't have to listen. ESPN would pay a fortune for it. I hope Miss St buries them the next two nights, but I think it's a long shot.
  10. This is a good explanation. He made some very tough decisions early on -- and probably, in hindsight, would've handled them differently from a PR perspective -- but those decisions saved UNO athletics. The move to D-1 was a necessity. Simply put, football & wresting couldn't come along for the ride from a budget perspective. To build Baxter Arena and a new baseball/softball complex with the budget they have is nothing short of miraculous. When he arrived, their facilities were on par with a high-end Nebraska high school. Their revenue sport, hockey, was renting practice space anywhere they could find it in town. It's a whole different feel at UNO now. To hire Dean Blais in hockey when he did was even more shocking then us hiring Hoiberg. He also navigated their #1 sport in hockey into the best conference in the country with a fraction of the tradition/history of the majority of its members. (Granted, he had a lot of help in hockey from Mike Kemp.) He's good at hiring good people, staying out of the way, and letting them do their jobs. He might be a bit too much like Moos in that regard. And he also isn't all that visible at events (again, like Moos), so I don't know how closely NU would consider him. Most new hires don't have much in common with the predecessor in these types of positions. If nothing else, he knows how to sell his vision for the future, and then he makes it happen more often than not. Ultimately, I don't think he's interested in coming to Lincoln, but he's more than qualified.
  11. Sure, but he needs to exhaust his athletic eligibility before we could even consider him, I'd think.
  12. That'll be a fun game. Noon start on a weekend - hopefully Raycom will have the broadcast. I just hope we didn't offend any Colorado fans with our spelling of Buffa Loes in the graphics.
  13. What a bleepin' mess. How bad would this be if NC State had somehow won that game yesterday? And they were way closer to winning it than they should've been. Fans are allowed to fill every seat in that place - with no proof of vaccination - yet somehow the young healthy athletes playing a naturally socially distanced sport, many of whom have taken the vaccine, are unable to continue? The NCAA is more than happy to take the ticket / concessions / merchandise money, yet somehow draw the line on "safety" here? It's a clown show. It also calls into question what's going to happen in the 2021-22 athletic season. Will the NCAA continue to have this same policy in place? I mean covid isn't going away completely. So will the NCAA be able to institute testing out of the blue during the NCAA basketball tournament if one of the players comes down with the sniffles? I hope Kevin Warren is hiding in his house and not paying attention to what's going on in Omaha, or we're sure to have some crazy B1G-only testing protocols implemented for the upcoming season. On the plus side, maybe they should test the Vandy Whistler for covid. Hopefully he could be sent home too.
  14. Can't upvote this enough - pulling in hires like this isn't as easy as some think. If it's still Eichorst or ::shudder:: the Peder, none of those guys are coming here. And Osborne, who sometimes gets quite a bit of unfair hindsight criticism for his hires, was not spending the money to bring in Hoiberg. I just hope we don't continue our recent pattern > unmitigated disaster at AD / solid AD / unmitigated disaster at AD / solid AD / ??? And before some Omaha9999999999 poster brings it up, no, we would not be 'lucky' if Bruce Rasmussen was interested.
  15. Terrance Badgett was on 93.7 today https://theticketfm.com/dp-and-stephens/dp-stephens-terrance-badgett-former-husker-basketball-player/
  16. Two things I learned from that story: 1 - I have a newfound respect for Gard. He apparently dislikes the Wisky players almost as much as I do. 2 - Some people are delusional. Some people completely lose their grip on reality. Then there's people who would think this is true: Potter called out Gard for not having players’ backs, specifically Davison’s. Players — and some fans — felt Davison was being treated unfairly by Big Ten officials. I have no words. EDIT: (lol - Jason 2486 beat me to it)
  17. This one will get 'em. Now they can only offer $99,000 and a good job for dad to prospects. The NCAA sure showed them.
  18. This site has us playing in a 4-team MTE in Lincoln: https://www.bloggingthebracket.com/2021/2/17/22287581/2021-22-mens-college-basketball-exempt-multi-team-events-mte-thanksgiving-early-season-tournaments Nebraska MTE TBA: Lincoln, Neb. Nebraska (Big Ten) South Dakota (Summit) Southern (SWAC) Tennessee State (OVC) So I think that means we can schedule 29 games plus 2 in the MTE (31 total) under the rules that were supposed to go into effect in 2020-21 before they changed them for Covid. I assume those rules will go back into place for 2021-22.
  19. I know a guy who could help to change his mind.
  20. To be fair, the article didn't really clarify that he has an offer from Cal. Just that they reached out. So I'm not sure how many other committable offers he has at this point.
  21. World-Herald had a profile of Green today, talking about his visit to NU. https://omaha.com/sports/high-school/recruiting/millard-norths-jasen-green-is-stepping-into-recruiting-spotlight/article_4c368da0-ce34-11eb-b99a-173837b28503.html He had a great visit, but he's just starting to hear from some other schools and wants to see what else is out there. Can't blame a player coming off the covid shutdown for that line of thinking. He's a great student, so the fact he heard from Cal in the past week or two has to be a big deal. For a player with a focus on academics, Cal would be a tough school to turn down. As a side note, one of the recruiting guys was on the radio this week, saying NU wouldn't hold a scholarship open waiting for Green to make a decision. If NU receives a couple of other 2022 commits, Green's scholarship offer may no longer be valid.
  22. Buzzy Caruthers was on 93.7 today - he mentioned that Trey McGowens checked in with him the past few days about where NIL sits currently - it's a big deal for all the players. They're dialed in about the potential and looking forward to it.
  23. Heard on a couple of different radio shows today that CJ, along with Bryce, has been very impressive through the first week - better than expected.
  24. Awwww, that's no fun. Let's put Sip in the engineer's seat on the hype train instead!
  25. Heard Sipple on the radio today - he said Bryce is "raising eyebrows" among the coaches already. Pure shooting stroke, professional attitude and work ethic, off to a better start than they could've hoped in the first few days. Not sure how truly dialed in Sip is to the hoops program, but I'm choosing to take all of his statements as gospel because I want to.
